Our Story
MISSION STATEMENT FOR SRGDRR
To rescue Great Danes from neglect, abuse, and abandonment. To provide medical care and individual rehabilitation through our experienced and loving foster home program. To provide each rescued Dane with a qualified, caring new home that will ensure a quality of life each Dane has deserved from the day it was born. We have been rescuing Great Danes nationwide since 2013 and we take pride in the collective love, concern and dedication for the misunderstood and forgotten Danes here. It is our mission to continue to be the voices of the less fortunate Danes, and to provide them safety, protection and their birthright of a quality of life with love and dignity. To fund raise for Great Dane rescue efforts. To assist needy owners that cannot afford spaying, neutering, or heartworm treatment as funds allow. Also by educating them on affordable local spay neuter clinics local to them. To educate the public with information on topics such as spay/neuter benefits, vaccinations, backyard breeding, behavior, obedience and nutrition. To sponsor walks and events to raise awareness of rescue needs and the plight of SRGDRR Great Danes. To be a link point to other rescues and clubs nationwide.
SRGDRR was founded in honor and memory of Rocky the Great Dane, whom we tried desperately to save in June 2013. Despite all of our efforts and offers of rehabilitation, he was irresponsibly and needlessly euthanized on June 12, 2013. Every sweet dog that enters our rescue will be provided with the care and love that Rocky was denied. Every dog we save will be in his memory and honor. For those of you who don't know Rocky's story........please keep reading...............Rocky is a 3 year old Great Dane that was owner surrendered June 1, 2013 to the Hernando County Animal Shelter in Brooksville, Florida for biting the owner's boyfriend and requested euthanization after 10 day quarantine. This same owner adopted Rocky from this same shelter in May 2012. He was brought in at that time with a female Dane named Emma. In May 2012 rescue tagged Rocky and Emma for rescue but while awaiting transport the shelter allowed Rocky and Emma to be adopted out separately thus cancelling all rescue efforts. We have rescue again ready to take Rocky and he would be going to a wonderful ranch on 7 acres that is completely fenced in. He would be the only dog in the fenced in area and he would be rehabilitated to be the Great Dane he was meant to be. We have offered our rescue services to the Vet on site at Hernando County Animal Shelter and they have refused. They have refused our animal behavior specialists entrance to assess him. Please help us fight to save Rocky from euthanization by having him properly assessed and rescued and rehabilitated. Rocky has gained media attention with his story and we pray for a happy ending for this big boy! Thank you and please share and repost as much as you can. Rocky's time is up on June 9, 2013.
