Blu the pit bull began training for a handful of reasons— reactivity and aggression toward people outside his inner circle, leash reactivity toward dogs, and relentless leash pulling at the top of the list. We’ve been working together since March and I’m still unable to handle him unless he’s muzzled, and even then it is challenging because of his lack of trust in me.
Because of this, all of our work together has been me coaching my clients on how to handle him themselves with very little demonstration from me. His leash walking has been our biggest success so far in our work together— he went from pulling constantly at the end of the leash with all of his strength (which is substantial- he’s incredibly strong) to this relaxed, controlled loose leash walk you see here. I couldn’t be more proud of him and his owners for all their hard work!
I got to take my boy on a trip to beautiful Pierport, Michigan and we had the best time together! Because of all the e-collar and off-leash work we’ve done, I barely had him on a leash the whole week we were gone, and I hardly had to correct him for not coming when I called him. We’ve established really strong trust and communication over the past several years, and it’s allowed me to give him so much freedom!

Here’s a bit more from Russell’s training! He did so well with the e-collar, and as you can see here, he’s not stressed or scared by it at all. When done properly, e-collar training allows for freedom and great communication with your dog! How do you keep your dog entertained when it’s too hot to exercise outside?? BMO definitely gets cabin fever, so I try to get him a little more mental stimulation by refreshing his obedience and practicing his tricks. This helps calm him down a bit and prevent him from getting overly frustrated. It may not wipe him out the way thirty minutes of frisbee would, but it helps when it’s not safe to spend too much time outside!

Watson the terrier mix and I have been working on his dog reactivity in Home School training for the past few weeks; we did e-collar conditioning to work toward reliable off-leash recall and to help with his leash reactivity on walks. He’s made so much progress. Today I had him off-leash in the front yard while someone walked past with two dogs, and he growled and tensed up, but when he didn’t initially come when I called him, I used the e-collar on a pretty low level and he responded immediately. I am so proud of him!!
