Posted this originally four years ago People often assume cats and kittens like soft things and they do, *but not exclusively*. Yesterday Sunflower (aka Pinky) was happy crashing on our coffee table. If you're curious, the wood is padauk; my buddy Jerry, an expert cabinetmaker-woodworker-engineer, built it with my helper-level assistance.

New Amazon customer comment: "My cats love it! One of my cats was scratching on wood surfaces in the house, despite having several traditional scratching posts placed in strategic locations. She just likes the feel of wood, I guess. Since I got it, I haven't seen her scratch on anything but this post. I also regularly hide treats in the hole (in the beginning I used the red cord as a play tool to get the cats to stick their paws in there). Now the other checks the hole almost every single time she walks by it just to see if any treats have appeared." —M. Lee.

People sometimes ask me if Natural Scratch will dull their cats' claws. Nope. Just the opposite happens. Used claw sheaths are removed through scratching and new ones brought to bear. Discarded sheaths are visible on the base in this close-up of a cork post.

The attached is a new Amazon customer comment about Natural Scratch. It particularly warms my heart because it emphasizes the value of *training* a cat to claw where you want it to. Please have a iook and pass it on. I minored in psychology in college and used what I learned about behavior modification to come up with a sure-fire approach to training any cat to claw Natural Scratch and nothing else. All it takes is a reward the cat will perform for, consistency, and a quality scratching target. Each post comes with a booklet that teaches customers how to train their cats.

Sunday afternoons in the winter I like to light a fire and recline next to it with a book or magazine. Occasionally, Venus—aka Blackie, Klepto Kat, and Talons—who is not normally a lap cat, likes to plunk down on top of me. Her sister Sunflower is visible in the background.
