Received a wonderful update on Pico & Abby. So pleased to hear how well they are doing. Definitely meant to be! š
Pico, very nice May wether. Hearne, TX. Easy to work with for first timer, competitive for experienced handler. PM
Just wanted to give an update on Gigi who lost her horn sheath back in June on a cluster of trees. Today she must have been doing the rambunctious doe head butting for this time of year and broke some of it off. It seems stable and hopefully will seal off at the break. Just the first in a series of unfortunate accidents we had this Summer with the herd. This was the most benign & least expensive so farš¤Ready to move on to next season.
We have 2 very nice May wethers. Tame enough for first timers, & competitive enough for experienced handlers. Very good structure, healthy with sweet personalities. Disbudded & wethered. They are stallmates and get along perfectly if someone needs two. Come out and see for yourself. Easy to handle for your child to show. Hearne, TX. Easy access off Hwy 6. PM.
May wethers, Hearne, TX. Sweet boys.

Pico this morning! Come see us today. Hearne, TX. PM.
Our sweet Belle went to the vet today and itās bad news. She has a severe infection at the fracture site. Only option was amputation. We canāt put her through any more so while sedated, we let her go. We will miss her terribly, such a sweet, sweet doe. We have her little daughter Rosie to keep her spirit going on. Thanks to everyone who cared and wished her well.
Our May wethers dance for you! Hearne, TX PM.
Iām excited to compare side by side, Belleās xrays from date of surgery until 5 weeks post op healing. Itās looking improved and some healing taking place.
I took Belle in for a check early because sheās stopped putting weight on her leg. Xrays were done and they said the pins were not displaced, no sign of infection at the sites and some bone healing is taking place. The surgeon felt it was too risky to remove the cast at this point of healing, so the plan is to ride it out for 2 more weeks and replace the cast August 9th. Unsure what is causing her such pain to not bear weight. Sheās still on Meloxicam for pain daily and I am to do passive range of motion exercises for that shoulder. I am also to attempt to get her to put weight down on the leg which she wants no part of. Keep us in your thoughts for the next couple weeks to make it through until the cast can be replaced and her leg examined for any problems incurred with pressure from the cast. The muzzle was genius to keep her npo this morning from the hay. Worked like a charm!
Iāve added the xrays they took this day. It shows some healing of the bone.
Look at this adorable pair! Louie aka now C**t have fallen for his new young lady! š Such great times ahead!

Playtime for our fine May wethers & does. Come out and see us sometime soon. Hearne, TX.
Our Belle is doing very well. Sheās still on a pain medicine daily (Meloxicam) and seems to enjoy the easy food & hay in her 10x12 personal stall. She rests well and doesnāt complain at all. Sheās moving and pivoting more easily, bringing that casted leg forward more often. I brush her with that curry comb daily to get all of her itchies satisfied. She holds perfectly still when I do. I ran into a vet student on her case in a completely different situation and she knew exactly who I meant, said oh you have Belle? She told me Belle recovered so well & stood right up after anesthesia. Sheās so strong and such a survivor. I bring her back to A&M August 2nd for a sedated set of xrays and possibly a pin removal or more and a new cast. I got ahold of the xrays after reduction of the fracture under anesthesia and subsequent pinning of the bones and casting. You can see how difficult it was to position the bones and they arenāt lined up perfectly so we are hoping we will see proper mending at the follow up. Please continue to send good thoughts our way so she may heal and live out many more wonderful years here at the ranch. Her kids are weaned and doing great along with their other 16 cousins to play with. Thank you for supporting us!
Banding day for our wonderful May wethers. Available after July 9th unless previously arranged. Going to be our very best set to date! Hearne, TX. PM.
I picked up Belle today. The surgeon & staff all commented on what a nice friendly goat she was, very sweet, they said. She is home now and stall rest for the next 6 weeks. She has 3 pins under that cast which need to stay secure in order for the bone to heal. Iām to teach her to walk better by bringing the cast forward instead of dragging behind or swinging around. We had a fifty step walk to get to the stall and I used a rope on her ankle to keep the cast forward, she did excellent. She seems relieved to be home and walked up to me and put her face in my hand. The last 3 pictures are her walking forward the right way. Thanks to everyone who cared about her and wished her well. Sheās exceptional and strong. Continued healing is in order. We will provide the care and physical therapy. Your warm thoughts and her healing power will do the rest! ā„ļø
I went to see Belle today. They say she is doing well. The bones lined up pretty good but not as good as they hoped. They placed 2 pins above and one below the fracture. External skeletal fixation is I think what theyāve done. They didnāt want to put a plate because of so much swelling with risk of infection. So, she will stay until Monday theyāve said. I brought the kids home to wean to save her calcium and we keep our fingers crossed her bone can heal. 6 weeks like this and then a cast change and possibly pin removal one or all. As a side note, I was thanked by a student for allowing him to see such a great rare orthopedic surgery for a goat which he raises as well. Please keep us in your thoughts & prayers. Thanks for yāallās efforts so far! ā„ļø
Update: Belle has made it through surgery with 3 pins and a hanging cast. The surgeon said there were pieces of bone missing or shattered so it was not as straightforward as sheād hoped. She didnāt want to plate it because there was too much swelling so it posed a greater risk of infection. She said Belle is standing and reunited with her kids. All I heard was she made it through and a plan is in place. I want to see if I can see her tomorrow. We worked on trimming the trees so high, the does would not attempt to stand up and risk the leg getting caught. We plan to wrap the double trees with some kind of tree mesh wrap so this wonāt happen again. Thanks to everyone who cared about our Belle and prayed and wished her well. Keep her in your thoughts & prayers, itās going to be a long road but we do not mind. We just want our Belle back home & sound.
Our beautiful Belle has severely broken her leg. Yesterday I found her with her leg caught between 2 trees, twisted and laying on the ground. Her hoof was jammed between the trunks so no way for her to free it. It took some time and strength to free her. She was seen by our wonderful county vet who explained the fracture was too severe to cast. We brought her to Texas A&M this morning and the plan is to undergo surgery to pin the bone above the fracture and cast the pin to take pressure off the lower leg and place all pressure on the pin instead. She is stable and with her kids and the hope is for surgery tomorrow. She is a Goatee granddaughter, born here at the ranch, produces beautiful babies, and our sweetest doe on our place. The surgery is risky & the recovery is tricky, not a sure thing. Please keep us in your thoughts as we hope & pray she can be helped.
We found Gigiās horn sheath! My daughter found it in a cluster of trees. Must have caught it just right on a trunk and popped it off. Gigi doesnāt seem to notice any difference. Sheās not painful and thereās no drainage. Thanks to everyoneās comments.
Has anyone had this experience? I donāt know what happened to her left horn. Maybe head butting with other does, caught in something and stripped out? No bleeding and I havenāt assesed it to see if it is loose. Iām not exactly sure what to do, leave it alone or try and file it to be less fragile. Truly donāt want it to break and donāt want any painful injury for her. Iām not considering having it removed if itās stable. Just perplexed, see a lot of people having broken horns but not this. Tell me what you might suggest. Very curious situation.
