🎂 Happy 15th Birthday, Atreyu! 🎂

Atreyu, named after the brave hero in The Never Ending Story, might need a little help from Falkor the luck dragon if he ever wanted to fly! While he may not soar through the skies, this little guy waddles his way into our hearts every day. Penguins like Atreyu belong to the Spheniscidae family, a group of flightless birds native to the southern hemisphere, and though they can’t take to the air, they’re pros at swimming through the seas!

Our eels can f-EEL that Halloween is almost here! 🎃

Though the gaping teeth-filled mouth of this fish may seem extra scary, they don't mean to be intimidating! They are actually just pumping water across their gills, essentially the act of breathing.

Is it too late to dress up as Barbie this year? 👚

Although we may think of axolotls as always being their iconic bright pink color, most axolotls are actually brown! Their almost transparent, light pink color is caused by albinism.

Bandit loves showing off her ex-SHELL-ent superhero costume all year round! 🦹‍♀️

Bandit's specialized weight pouch is an essential mobility aid! It allows her to swim comfortably despite her buoyancy issues and partial paralysis due to severe injuries she suffered from a boat propeller.

Come explore!

Ripley’s Aquarium of Myrtle Beach invites you to Come Explore! In 2020 the Aquarium is opening the largest expansion in its history with the addition of Penguin Playhouse featuring South African Penguins and a new World Ocean’s exhibit that houses brand-new species. Explore over 14,000 fish on display and get in on the action with interactive experiences - you can pet a jellyfish, stingray or bamboo shark, hold a horseshoe crab and enjoy hourly dive shows. There are even VIP experiences including Glass Bottom Boat Adventure, Swim with the Rays and Penguin Encounters that are available too. The highlight of any visit is Ripley’s 750,000 gallon “Dangerous Reef” where you ride our 330’ glidepath through the Shark Tunnel and come face-to-face with huge, deadly sharks, 11’ sawfish and Gabby the Green Sea Turtle! Located at Myrtle Beach’s premiere entertainment, dining and shopping complex, “Broadway At The Beach,” the Aquarium offers hours of family fun 365 days a year.
