"The essay that got Cherokee to county"
Pit bulls: backyard breeding & Fighting
By: Cherokee Peters Mitch
There are all kinds of pit bulls. Pitbull is a common name for a type of dog, there is the American pitbull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, American Bull dog, Staffordshire Terrier, red nose and blue nose pit bulls. They all have different life spans as well.
*blue nose live 10-11 years
*red nose live 12-14 years
*American Staffordshire live 10-15 years
Pit bulls were known as nanny dogs through out the late 19th to 20th centuries. The pitbull apologia would have you believe that their fighting bred dogs are just like any other dog in many ways, but so superior in their unparalleled love and devotion for children they got named Nanny Dog.
American pitbull terrier are ranked #1 for the best fighting dogs in the world because of their strength but dog fighting is illegal around the world but there are still several functional underground and backyard fight rings.
Backyard breeding is also another issue for Pit bulls, because of their strength and demand for them in fight rings Pit bulls are being over need and cross bred to keep the pitbull line going.
I feel so strongly to speak about this subject because me and my family rescued a pitbull from this exact situation.
Our pitbull Kylie was beat, overbred and thrown into a fight ring. We rescued her when she was 5 years old, she just turned 10 year old. When kylie was 6 she became a service dog for my dad because he suffers a lot from the military.
Kylie also has been suffering with cancer the past 3 years but she doesn't let that slow her down any, she is the most loving family member any child could ask for.
Remember not all dogs are mean, no animal deserves to be treated this way and if given another life they can change from what they are taught at a young age.
Kylie is living proof of that.
