🏆 Final Dressage Day of 2024 🏆

Entries are filling very quickly for our last competition of the year 🏃‍♂️💨 come and ride on our new arena! Super friendly competition from Prep to Grand Prix.

While our 120 x 80 metre arena has served the local very well for decades, the existing sand alone was extremely dusty and could be unstable to ride (especially jump) on. These concerns were raised regularly by members, competitors, officials, our neighbours and the local community. Many committees explored and attempted different options to address these issues over the years.

Following significant research into alternate surfaces and extensive consultation we submitted an application to upgrade our arena to a mixture of and coarse sand. We were not only successful with our application, works have now also been completed! 🙌🏻

Works included re-leveling the existing surface, checking the arena base, adding concrete sleepers, removing excess sand to bring level down to 35mm, adding and mixing 87 tonnes (25mm) of Treadlite. With generous support from we have also received a new Can-Am which, combined with a new Greystone rake will make maintaining things a breeze.

Feedback from the Brett Cantle & David Finch clinic on the weekend was overall quite positive. As with all changes we are still fine tuning how best to maintain it. Our committee remains motivated to continue upgrading facilities for our members and the equestrian community.

📣 Special Announcement 📣

The Fig Tree Pocket Equestrian Club Committee are thrilled to share that the Club has been successful in obtaining a grant from the Minor Infrastructure and Inclusive Facilities fund from the Department of Tourism, Innovation and Sport to upgrade the 120x80 metre arena surface.

Following many years of member, competitor and officials feedback as well as consultation with the wider local and equestrian community, the Club prioritised finding an arena surface that is:
✅ suitable for all Olympic disciplines
✅ would significantly reduce dust
✅ improve surface stability to ensure horse and rider safety
✅ a long term, sustainable solution
✅ and within the budget constraints of the grant and Club.

As a result, a mix of sand and a Premium amount of Treadlite has been selected to meet these objectives.

A huge thank you to all who supported the submission of the application and for the ongoing work in completing this project. This project will enable the Club to better service the requirements of the local Equestrian community while reducing the dust impact on the local community.

Project works are to commence on Monday 30 September and continue without interruption until the work is complete or until 18 October, whichever is earlier. The grounds will not be available for bookings by non members during this period.

During this time FTPEC members will still be able to ride out on the XC course and school flatwork in safe locations with further details to be communicated via the private members group.

Finally a huge thank you to committee member Stef Neergaard for being the driver behind the success of this application. She continues to bring so much to our committee and we are so grateful to work alongside her. 👏🏻👏🏻

We are all getting excited for the Fuel Asset Finance Open Showjumping Competition! 🐴

There is a canteen (with barista made coffee ☕️) open both days and official photographers (in both rings on both Saturday and Sunday. 📸

There will also be a food truck (GourMeat Grill&Bbq) and the After Hours Coffee Kart from 4pm, a licenced bar from 3pm and live entertainment from 4-6pm on Saturday night for those staying overnight 🎶🍻

If you intend to stay on site please make sure you have booked your camping and yards ⛺️

Spectators are also welcome to come along and join us watching our showjumpers over the weekend.

The Fig Tree Pocket Equestrian Committee (represented here by Laura, Emma and Sally) were excited to raise a glass toasting our new CanAm buggy, through an exceedingly generous sponsorship arrangement with Fuel Asset Finance. The buggy will play a role in running events and general maintenance activities of our grounds at Fig Tree Pocket Equestrian.

Chad Arenson, Director at Fuel Asset Finance is a local in the Fig Tree Pocket community. It was walking with his wife and kids that he met Kate, our Vice President when she offered up her horse for the kids to pat. It was that day he first made an offer to come on board as a sponsor supporting the club.

Fig Tree Pocket Equestrian Club are missing their 8 tablets that were last used at their recent ODE. They are in black and blue cases and have FTP written with a white marker on them with corresponding numbers from #1-8.

2 x Eventing Queensland (EvQ) Optimum Time watches are missing with yellow faces numbered in blue with #11 & #20 on the backs and 1 x EvQ radio with a pink number #30 on it.

The FTPEC committee and our members extend our deepest condolences to Sarah Fitton on the passing of her father, Brian.

Brian was a long term supporter of eventing at Fig Tree Pocket and in Queensland, having served as Chair of Equestrian Queensland and Eventing Queensland and supported Sarah through her illustrious career as one of Fig Tree Pocket’s most successful eventers.

The current committee and members are the beneficiaries of the hard work of all those who came before us and we are grateful for their commitment to our club and the sport of eventing.

Our thoughts are with Sarah and the other members of our FTP community who share her sorrow at this time.
