Decker the Service Dog In 2010, Eddie had three strokes. He raised Decker to be trained as his service dog to help improve his quality of life. In 2014, Decker got a new home.

On July 27, 2010, I suffered a left vertebral artery dissection that resulted in my having three strokes. One of the blood clots hit the left side of my cerebellum. The second clot struck the right side. But the devastating third clot traveled to my brain stem. For the most part, I have recovered from the cerebral damage, but the brain stem injury is permanent. What it has left me with is vertigo/

dizziness, double vision, painful muscular spasticity (which manifests itself in the form of constant pain in my upper arms and my right hip radiating all the way down to my toes) and severe balance and mobility issues. I have had multiple falls in the past, but they have begun to degenerate into blacking out and falling now, resulting in more trips to the Emergency Department than I care for. The first blackout fall left me with a concussion and subsequent post-concussive syndrome. The latest fall fortunately left me with only soft tissue damage. I continue to have benign falls and near misses on a regular basis.
