It’s been a week now, since we wrapped on Never Again, on the magical Isle of Bute.
On reflection, I can tell you, hand on heart, that I’ve never experienced so much collective emotion on a film set.
Ever.
There is no doubt that the island itself played a part in this, it’s a unique and beautiful place, and I urge you to go there on your travels.
It felt like the experience of the cast & crew ran in parallel with the fictional family in the story.
As the Becketts arrived at the majestic Wemyss Bay train station, so did we, on a life-enriching journey, to bring their story to life on screen.
As for the Isle itself, there is so much to love. The sense of adventure aboard the CalMac ferry, the mesmerising view from the Glenburn Hotel, the vintage Americana vibe from the Rockabilly Diner, the delicious bagels from Bonnie Bling, the breathtaking beach at Ettrick Bay, the glorious space at Bute Yard, the generosity of the Braw Liquor Club, the home made ice cream from Wee Zoe’s, the fish & chips from the West End Cafe, the heartwarming presence of Floyd the Scottish Deerhound, and the angelic voice of Josienne Clarke.
The giddy euphoric elation, when principal photography wrapped, was followed by a genuine and tearful sadness, as we shot our final pick ups, knowing that this part of our story had come to an end.
Fortunately we had esteemed photographer, Mark Tipping, with us throughout, to capture these moments for promotional stills. I’ve seen some of the images, they are incredible, and we cannot wait to share them with you, when the time is right.
Every production begins with the seed of an idea, which grows into a script, to flourish on film. Our Writer/Director, Alec Bowman-Clarke, created something extraordinary, layered, funny, heartfelt, and with a great deal of hard work, resilience, dedication, and determination, we made Never Again.
Onward!
