This poor dog was found with part of his back leg missing—ligaments and bone fully exposed and badly infected. It’s a sight that no animal should ever endure, and we suspect that a cruel snare caused this horrifying injury.He is currently in critical condition, and we’ve taken him to animal control for immediate medical care. Their veterinary team will assess the injury to begin the treatment he desperately needs. Every day we pray we find amazing homes for the dogs in our care. We have a staggering 110 dogs as of today actively looking for homes. Not all are shown online as they are too young, being medically treated, or being assessed for behavior. Many are in foster homes and some are at the facility. Having this many dogs means we have to provide..🏥 medical care - monthly meds for heartworm and flea/tick. Wormer. Antibiotics and a host of other ailments that require medicine and veterinary visits. This requires attention to detail and coordination between workers to ensure medication is dispensed properly. 🦴 Dog Food for all puppies in foster care. Food for all the dogs at the facility. Special food for dogs with allergies or medical conditions. Puppy milk. 🐾 Daily exercise and affection to all the dogs in our care. They get rotated out to yards in play groups many times throughout the day and they get to play in the pools, or with the many toys they have. Volunteers also take them out for walks. The amount of coordination of dogs with foster families, dogs going out for medical care, spay and neuter appointments and navigating events every weekend is mind blowing. But NONE OF US would change it for the world. We love what we do. Our crew of 6 full time and 3 part time workers handles all of the above with the help of fosters and volunteers. With the help of our community we help thousands of dogs find loving homes and we do it with a very small budget. Thank you for always having our backs. We had an amazing time at Kamehameha Schools recently, spreading the love for our furry friends and teaching the keiki all about responsible pet ownership! 🐶💕 It was such a joy to see the excitement and curiosity in the kids as we talked about how to keep their dogs happy and healthy.

Found as a stray, this brave pup has overcome challenges and now eagerly awaits her forever home. Despite spending 146 days in our care, Ipo's playful spirit remains undimmed, her tail wagging with excitement at every opportunity for adventure. She adores spending time outdoors, chasing after balls and exploring new scents, her boundless energy matched only by her love for life.

Today we got a call from an elderly lady who was sick and needed medical attention, but before seeking treatment for herself she wanted to make sure her animals would be looked after and cared for.
This would be #5 and #6 this week.
This week alone our rescue has taken in 6 dogs due to owners who are ill/passed away. That is 6 kennel spaces that could be used for dogs facing imminent danger/death in other circumstances.
And although we are so happy that the community looks to our rescue as a safe haven for their pets, the point we are trying to make in sharing this is, if at all possible — in the same way you’d make arrangements for your children, finances, etc. make arrangements for your pets. Our rescue should be the last resort, not the first.
Your pets whom most have spent many years with you, do not deserve to spend their life in a shelter/rescue. I don’t think the average person understands the toll it takes on an animal. They’re confused, scared, sad, just to name a few.
I think we can never go wrong in learning a lesson from a story such as this — it’s never too early to plan for the unexpected for your animals.

Listen to the whole post and what she says before commenting. I stand behind what I said. Unknowledgeable people should not be allowed to bring in and breed certain breeds and sell them here. Some breeds require more skilled owners and selling these breeds to pet homes is asking for possible eventual problems and potential injury. Not all dog breeds are bred to be your average family’s pet. Stop bringing in these large working breeds and breeding them if you don’t know what you are doing. Once again it’s not the dogs that are the problem, it’s the humans.
