Disabled shelter cat "Eileen" was rescued from an animal shelter and recruited as a "target cat". She will be used to help train "Cat Detection Dogs".
Eileen is a disabled cat rescued from the St. Charles County Pet Adoption Center outside of St. Louis, MO in June 2014. Pet Detective Kat Albrecht was at that shelter evaluating and training "Cat Detection Dogs" which are dogs trained to find lost cats. Eileen displayed superior talent as a "Target Cat" which are cats that are trained to crate quietly and are not afraid of dogs. Seattle area volun
teer (Pat Davis) has agreed to adopt/foster Eileen so that this special kitty can live in Seattle (near Kat) and be used to help train MAR (missing animal response) search dogs both in Seattle and nationwide through Kat's K9 Pet Trackers training program (http://www.katalbrecht.com/K9train.php). This page was created for two reasons: (1) to follow Eileen's transport from St. Louis to her new home in Seattle and (2) to keep everyone updated on her continued work as a target cat. The decision to call her "Eileen" was because when she first entered the shelter (in April 2014) she could not stand or walk. Now she tilts her head (and leans) when she stands. We would like to THANK the St. Charles County Pet Adoption Center for hanging onto a disabled cat for three months in the hopes that she would find a home. So many shelter cats are just NOT this lucky. The only thing better than rescuing a shelter cat and giving it a JOB (as a target cat) is to rescue a DISABLED shelter cat that might not have been adopted!
