Update on Gingers Paralysis - Thank you to everyone for the incredible outpouring of love and support. The last week has been both a sleepless nightmare and a blessing at the same time. Last Monday, we were set to travel to Hawaii, with Ginger already cleared by Hawaiian agriculture and approved for a non-petstay Airbnb. She has all the necessary PSA, ESA, and service dog documentation. We had to cancel our trip.On Sunday afternoon, she came back from the groomer and could not walk. She was basically a paraplegic. We took her to 24 hr speciality cardiologist and neurologist vet who performed an EKG and MRI. Thank god for insurance. Monday was the worst for us. The MRI revealed a cyst pressing on her spine between the C1-C2 vertebrae, and she went into heart failure after the anesthesia. They could not operate as it is in an experimental area, on top of a failing heart. The vet suggested euthanasia as our only option; leaving us heartbroken and devastated is an understatement.We rushed back to the vet and expected the worst. We asked if we could see her and she was in an oxygen box. She was somewhat alert and later on persistently barked at us as she usually does when we pick her up. We were given the choice of either having her hospitalized for stabilization or euthanizing her that night. Despite the additional medical costs, we chose hospitalization.Two days later, after oxygen treatments and medication to clear fluid from her lungs, Ginger was stable enough to return home with us.Now begins a new chapter in her journey, however long it may be. We are grateful to have this extra time with her. Thankfully she knows how to communicate when she wants something.
