This is about all we’re interested in doing in this heat. Homer is extra tired today. He doesn’t like storms and we had a doozie last night. He finally settled and then everyone else was able to rest.
Rudy's Rescue is a foster-based, 501c3 nonprofit dog rescue in Weatherford, Texas.

Lainey Poo keeps Birdie on her toes.
Homer has decided kids aren’t so bad after all.
Lily is devising an escape plan. Lainey Poo is tired of telling her the only way out is through the rails on the back deck.
Early to bed, early to rise, makes the first nap of the day start at 5:30 am.😴
Birdie, AKA air conditioning vent hog.
Homer would like to announce he has been crowned the champion in the "Most Barking In One Day" award held yesterday.😀Of course, no other dog came close and the competition was only between the foster dogs. No worries. Homer is fine. Sometimes you need to let everyone know who the boss is.
Honorable mention goes to Lily who won the "Staring at Homer In Disbelief" award.
You were correct if you guessed Birdie would NOT be available for adoption! Sometimes all logic goes out the window and you see a puppy face you fall in love with. Birdie has found her new home with us.😍
She fits in perfectly with the old-timers and gives Lainey Poo a run for her money at playtime. Or maybe it is the other way around. 🙂
Thank you, Marie April Gismondi, for the yummy treats. They are definitely Homer-approved.
Homer tried to give the new girls a tour of the yard but they weren’t interested. I told him tours are more interesting if the guide is more interactive 😬
Please welcome Lily and Birdie to the crew! These two joined us this past weekend coming from Granbury and Mineral Wells. Lily is an 8-year-old Yorkie, owner surrender. Birdie is a 10-12-week-old Pyr mix pup from the Animal Shelter, Mineral Wells, TX. Both are headed to the vet this week, but only one will be available soon for adoption. Can you guess which one?
Mr. Homer wanted to be outside today. I had to make him come in several times. Before vacation, we were having some very pleasant weather so Homer could go out and nap on the deck in the morning and evening. It’s just too hot now and he is not happy about cutting his time outside short. He often times will just look out through the deck and watch the squirrels. I’m sure he wishes he could venture beyond our fence and explore the woods.
Surprisingly he’s been extra affectionate since we returned. Maybe he’s finally figured out what family is all about.❤️
We're back to life as we know it. All the doggies were glad to see each other. Especially Lainey Poo and Homer. Homer even let us sleep in until 5:30 today!! They all settled back into the daily routine as if we never left. We are blessed to have a great group of dogs that do well with each other. Most of the time.😀
We're back from vacation! Although vacation is never long enough, we missed our babies and are glad to be back home. We couldn't have gone away without knowing our babies would be well taken care of. Thank you to Nancy Robertson and Shannon Farmz Pet Services for watching the easy group☺. Special thanks to Al Lipscomb and her doggie Lucy for caring for Homer. We knew Homer would take extra care and we are more than thankful for Al watching him for us.
Thank you to our followers who checked in with us while we were away. Not everyone saw that we would be gone for a week and were worried because we had not been posting. That really means a lot!❤❤ We'll get back to regular posting today or tomorrow. Have a great day!
We might be a little biased, but look how handsome Homer is. He got a bath today and seemed to enjoy it. He just did his final stroll around the yard and will refuse to go out later before bed😄.
We’re going to take a break from rescue to enjoy a much needed vacation. Homer and the gang will be well taken care of while we’re away.
See you in a week!
Homer takes full advantage of the cooler weather. He absolutely loves to hang out on the deck. That often leads to nap time. We have to make him come in when it starts to rain! He argued today that he sleeps under the umbrella so he won’t get wet.😊
Oscar is an exceptional fella still looking for his forever home. We love him dearly but he needs his special someone! You literally will not find a better companion. Moki is the only one out of our bunch who likes to be outside when it's raining. Homer and Lainey Poo, however, are asking for forgiveness for doing some "solid" business in the house. Lainey says, "Sugar melts in the rain".😀
Homer enjoyed a nice walk around the yard after supper. He’s had a great weekend and hopes you are enjoying yours as well!
Homer has given the new deck and ramp his seal of approval. However, he did not want to stay outside.😊
Homer is enjoying this beautiful morning on the front patio. Today the new deck with a ramp should be finished. No more stairs! Although Homer may actually like being carried up and down the stairs in front😊.
Excuse me sir, that is the laundry pile you’re resting on.
Our Homer has been sleeping more than usual the past few days. When he's up and awake he's very vocal and honestly has moments when he's kind of a jerk. We have another few weeks before he is scheduled for a checkup but if this keeps up we will inquire whether he needs to go in sooner. He's still eating and drinking like a champ. Still enjoys outside time and still loves Lainey Poo.
In this photo, he looks so peaceful and happy.❤Paws crossed for a good day of nonjerk behavior. We love this guy to the moon and back no matter what!
Lola says having to go out in the front yard is a huge inconvenience but she has given her approval.
Last night was our final time to enjoy the rickety old deck out back. Tomorrow is demo day. On Monday the new deck will begin construction. Although we are thankful we had the old thing to use with its weathered boards and makeshift railings, the new deck will be much nicer and user-friendly. Freddy has requested a ramp to access the backyard and Homer thinks that's a great idea. Lainey Poo is already trying to figure out how she can escape. She is an escape artist extraordinaire. We think she likes the thrill of being able to find a way out. As soon as she does, she barks to get back in instead of returning the way she left.
We hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend. Enjoy today. Monday's coming!
Let’s play find the nest!

Homer is saying he hopes everyone is having a wonderful Mother’s Day. Or maybe he’s asking for a third treat. He absolutely must have a treat after dinner. We’ll go with Happy Mother’s Day.❤️
Someone is not interested in outside morning social time. After a few pets, he was right back at the door. 😊 He missed the fox running through the back yard!
Today marks six weeks of having Homer with us in rescue. Six weeks ago we didn't know if he would even survive the gunshot wound but look at him now. Living and loving life! Congrats to Homer and a huge thank you to everyone supporting his journey. We could not have saved Homer without you!
This game just never gets old. I'm not talented enough to hold the phone and touch his collar at the same time or I would've recorded him stepping up on his own!😁
Homer was up for exploring today. He had lots of energy and was very vocal except when some deer strolled past a few yards away. Homer didn't make a sound! He just sniffed. Acknowledging they were there. He's invented a new game. He'll go down the deck stairs but when it's time to go inside he will climb until he gets to the last step. The barking and hollering happens at that point like he's been stuck for hours. A little nudge on the color and he takes the last step. Today he spit his meds out in protest no doubt. He finally took them a little later hidden in a couple treats. Needless to say, this guy is a character!
After closing most of it off, we opened the yard back up today. We closed it off to let the grass/weeds grow back. Homer was in hog heaven and explored for about 45 minutes. His internal dinner alarm must have gone off so he headed straight for the door and began singing for his supper! He asked me to tell you that he has been enjoying all the yummy treats he's received in the mail. Can't say that he likes one treat better than the others. He eats them ALL like they're his favorite. He will share with others just as long as he gets his first. We've been throwing around the idea of possibly doing a Homer T-shirt. What do you think?
Homer had a nice leisurely walk this afternoon. He seemed to really enjoy it. We walked on the road in front of the house then cut through to the back yard where he got a good sniff of everything new.
Happy Tuesday everyone! Homer having his morning stroll. We'll be getting rain today so he spent some extra time outside this morning. We're super happy with how he's filling out. He'll be headed to the vet tomorrow to check his progress.
We're up before the roosters crow again. Homer has just come from outside and usually does this walking around thing every time he does. A few laps around the living room then to the office where he'll walk around a few times before he naps. Truth be told, he's looking for remnants of any treat crumbs left on the floor. We started giving him treats when he goes outside and inside on his own. And you know we have to give everyone else a treat too! It's hard to get videos or pictures of Homer. When he's awake he wants to be right next to us. He's become part of the pack and does very well with the others. Sitting in the middle of the floor is one of our resident dogs Lainey Poo. Don't ask how she got her middle name!
Homer would like to thank Marie April Gismondi for the Rabbit Ears with Duck chews. As you can see they were a big hit! He had another great day with no complaints. At least we didn't hear any complaints from him or the others.🙂 He's really loving the nice weather in the evening and loves to sit outside. He barks hello to the neighbor's dog when she comes outside and they converse for a few minutes until she goes back inside. His only trouble to speak of now is that he gets stuck under a table here and there. If he can't get out he lays down.😁 Homer got a much-needed bath and his coat is really coming along. I think I saw him do a happy dance when Pippy left for her new home.🐶
