Zuri Food is an all natural, human grade dog food made in Hermosa Beach. We have 4 different meals f The dog lottery, if you will. Zuri food was born.

I routinely tell my dog, Miss Zuri, that she hit the jackpot. She has her own bed yet plops herself on the couch on a daily basis. She gets walked twice a day and visits the Redondo Beach dog park 2-3 times per week. Rarely does she ever spend more than 4 hours alone. Most of all, she has been eating handmade human grade food for years. It all started when she was a pup and had skin and coat issue

s that were unresolved by switching to the ever-so-popular and overpriced “grain-free” option in the dog food aisle. Not to mention the fact that this one year old black lab mix would not finish her bowl of food. In my experience, this was unheard-of. So, I started making her food; buying chicken, rice, and veggies from the grocery store and whipping up a week’s worth at a time. In no time, her persistent itching subsided, her coat became thick and shiny, and (sparing you the gory details) her stools became regular. Oh, and her food dish was spotless after each meal, leaving not a single morsel of food behind. Come to find out, most pet food is feed grade, meaning it’s often composed of bi-products from corn, soy, and beef production. Having no children of my own, I always considered Zuri a family member. I don’t know about you, but I would never feed my family anything less than the best. Fast forward 2 years and we have settled on 3 specific recipes, each with a different protein, carb, veggie, and fruit mixture. The benefits are clear and immediate and will surely result in a longer, healthier life for Zuri dog.

It’s time to say goodbye…

When we started Zuri Food in December of 2016, we had no idea just how many dogs we’d make happier and healthier. Some 18,000+ pounds of food later, it’s time to close up operations. The short story is that the fresh pet food business is a complicated and expensive industry in which to operate. Rising costs of labor and raw ingredients present challenges for keeping our pricing competitive. The largest players in the field have millions of dollars from investors making it tough for the little guys.

I remain deeply passionate about canine nutrition and am proud of what my team and I accomplished over the last eight years. The countless stories we heard about the improvement in a dog’s health after switching to Zuri Food, the number of friends and connections established, the joy in the dog’s face from pictures from their first bowl of Zuri Food, and the folks we could employ over the years combined make this entire journey valid and totally worth it.

In honor of NATIONAL DOG DAY, we want to tell you about Zuri(R) and Miles(L). Zuri was rescued 11 years ago as a puppy from a kill shelter in Missouri. As a young gal, she had skin and digestive conditions. After switching to a fresh, human grade diet, all her health problems went away. To this day, she has a healthy coat, no vomit/poo issues, and likes to run at the park everyday. She’s officially our co-founder.
Miles was rescued 8 years ago from Watts and started on Zuri’s diet immediately. As the foodie of the house, he makes sure every batch of Zuri Food is up to his standards. He’s officially the head of the Quality Control Department over here at ZF headquarters.
