In the past, I dedicated myself to English Springer Spaniel Rescue as a foster Mom. I can vividly recall every single dog that entered our home. The individuals involved in transporting them, the countless emails and calls made to ensure they found the perfect homes. I remember the one special dog, Blue, who found solace in our home during his final days, experiencing love for the first time, before crossing the rainbow bridge with my arms wrapped around him. There were also the foster fails, like Rosie, who came in and silently communicated, "I've found my forever home, I'm not going anywhere." Many people still ask me how I managed to bring them in, nurse them back to health, fall in love with them, and then let them go. I always believed that our home served as a temporary stopover, until they found their true forever homes. I have missed them dearly and often find myself thinking of them.
Recently, I received the news that one of my beloved boys has passed over the rainbow bridge. My immediate thought was of the grief his family will endure in the coming months. I then thought about the countless funny anecdotes and cherished memories they have of him, which will bring them comfort in the years to come. Baxter found his family, the place where he was loved and the people who gave him his whole world. I find comfort in knowing that my heart dog Louie was likely eagerly waiting to welcome him to The Rainbow Bridge, with sticks and balls at the ready for a joyful reunion. Run freely Baxter, and thank you for carrying another piece of my heart to the Bridge.
