Spring has arrived in our little corner of Fife and egg numbers are multiplying!
I have started testing the fertility on the hatching eggs with mixed success so far.
The Wheaton Marsh Daisies are looking excellent and I am happy to start taking orders for eggs and chicks (small deposit required to reserve chicks).
They are an extremely rare breed, classed as endangered and on the RBST red list and a new addition to the Kirkton Farm breeding program. They are a small, friendly breed with no bantam counterpart. Decent layers of cream coloured eggs and fantastic, hardy foragers.
Unfortunately the silver laced Wyandottes are only sitting at 50% so I’ll be trying them again in a few weeks.

As a side note to the poultry, we also breed Guinea pigs! They are a rare breed of Guinea pig called ‘Teddy’. Their coats are soft and dense like a teddy bear.
We currently have 2 brothers available to go together. 8 weeks old, ready to go. We also have an 8 week old baby girl and her 4 month old half sister. The girls can go separately if they are to join existing Guinea pigs.

The fertility on my silver grey dorkings is finally up to scratch. A traditional rare breed dating back to the Romans. They have long backs and an extra toe. Good layers of large, white eggs.

Something new and very exciting appeared in the incubator overnight last night. 3 little guinea fowl keets! They are ridiculously cute 🥰 We’re hoping to sell hatching eggs and keets we breed from these guys next year. Another 24 eggs of various colours in the incubator due in a few weeks so will hopefully have plenty available.
We have hens, lots of hens! Point of lay, ready to go next week. Due to very high demand and not being able to keep up, we have collaborated with another local breeder.
