🥳 In August, we’re celebrating 19 incredible chimp birthdays! The youngest this month is Braedon, turning 25, and the oldest are Yolanda and Boy, both turning 55! Do you or a loved one share a birthday with any of them?
National Tattoo Day 2024 (Staff Tattoos)
Happy National Tattoo Day! 🎨 Some of our dedicated staff members proudly showcase their love for our chimpanzees with tattoos of their favorite residents. 💚 Each tattoo represents a special bond and a commitment to providing the best care for our sanctuary's chimps.
Our residents have been enjoying vibrant, rainbow-themed enrichment parties in honor of Pride Month! The islands were adorned with rainbows, streamers, and party favors for the chimps to forage and enjoy. In addition to being fun for our residents, parties are a form of enrichment that encourages the chimps to explore, problem-solve, and socially engage with their family and friends. Special thanks to volunteer Christine P. for organizing these fabulous events! 🌈 💚 🎉
Today is Animal Sanctuary Caregiver Day! We have more than 220 chimpanzees, on 150 acres, being taken care of 24/7 in all forms of weather! A BIG thank you to our professional team of care staff. It's a difficult job and a labor of love to provide our residents with everything they need to thrive. Leave your pant-hoots in the comments to thank them for their hard work and dedication.

It's National Best Friend's Day, and we sure do have a lot of BFFs to celebrate at the sanctuary! ❤️ Many of our residents spent years in isolation before finding their forever home here. Now, they thrive in large family groups, forming natural bonds and friendships. Celebrate with us by tagging your bestie and sharing the love! 💞
🎉 In June, we’re celebrating 19 incredible chimp birthdays! The youngest this month is Leo, turning 17 and the oldest is Rebecca, turning 54! 💚 Join us in wishing them all a fantastic year! 💚
🌍 Happy World Environment Day from our 150-acre sanctuary! 🌳 We celebrate the incredible biodiversity that calls our sanctuary home. 🌿🐢🦋
🎉 26 Birthdays This Month! 🎉 May is our busiest birthday month, and we're thrilled to celebrate with our amazing chimpanzees! Each of these remarkable chimps has a unique personality that brings immense joy to our sanctuary. Join us in wishing them the best year yet! 💚✨
Happy Mother’s Day! 🌸🐵 During this time of year, we love sharing photos and videos of our residents with their offspring. Some unexpected arrivals came into our sanctuary through failed vasectomies, but watching these babies grow in loving families has been an incredible blessing. Today, and every day, we celebrate the strength and love of all mothers, grandmothers, aunts, and maternal figures. 💕
Save the Chimps Ambassador Vivien Lyra Blair attended the Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes premiere and praised the movie’s use of CGI, which spares real apes from being forced to perform. The young actress visited us last year to meet Tonka, Lisa Marie and other chimps who retired to Save the Chimps after time in the entertainment industry. Kudos to our youngest advocate!
Join us in thanking our incredible team of 114 volunteers!
Our sanctuary thrives on their commitment to our mission of providing sanctuary for rescued chimpanzees. From tending to the chimps' laundry, preparing their meals, and assisting our veterinary department to photography, event support, and more, our volunteers play an integral role. They also extend our reach by tabling at events, passionately spreading awareness about Save the Chimps.
Their selfless efforts enrich the lives of the chimps and inspire others to join our cause. This National Volunteer Week (and always!), we extend our deepest gratitude to each and every volunteer, past and present, who helps make a difference in the lives of our beloved chimpanzee residents.

With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Zeus, a magnificent chimp who lived up to his regal name. Born at the Coulston Foundation, he endured hardships in research labs until Save the Chimps granted him sanctuary. Zeus found joy in his new home, surrounded by friends and enrichment. He was a beloved member of his chimp family, known for his playful spirit and unique food preferences. “Though his absence leaves a tremendous hole in our hearts, it was an honor caring for Zeus and seeing him thrive at Save the Chimps.” Skye Conners, Curator

Sending lots of love to all on this Chimpentine's Day! 💕 🍌💕 Since retiring to our sanctuary, our chimpanzee residents have known nothing but love and companionship every single day. The greatest gift we could offer our residents was each other. Thank you for making their sanctuary life possible. 💕🐵

It's a windy day here at the sanctuary! This is known as Air Force Island because it was the first island built at Save the Chimps after the rescue of the Air Force chimps in 2001. It is now home to Late's Family, rescued chimps who came from a variety of backgrounds. You can get to know them here: https://savethechimps.org/chimps/?sort=family
