Gimpy Geckos Story

My name is Morgan. I started keeping geckos in the spring of 2017 and instantly fell in love with the hobby. My very first gecko was an African fat-tailed gecko named Dobby, who was surrendered to a reptile store by his previous owners. When I adopted him, he had many medical issues, including bowel paralysis due to multiple spinal fractures and kinks. He was my first “gimpy gecko.”

I had Dobby for a total of seven months, during which we made several emergency trips to the vet and he was on multiple medications for his condition. He eventually succumbed to his illness and was euthanized in October of 2017. Since then, I’ve made it my goal to help other gimpy geckos like him, those suffering from illness, mistreatment, injury, or neglect. Geckos and other reptiles are unfortunately seen as throw-away pets by so many, and many people buy reptiles without knowing how to properly care for them. This is where rescues like Gimpy Geckos comes into play.

Gimpy Geckos is well-equipped to care for special-needs and sick reptiles. As a veterinary technician at a practice that routinely sees exotics, I have direct access to a veterinarian that works with reptiles. I also have advanced of knowledge of animal husbandry for multiple reptile species. The rescue aims to rehabilitate the sick and find loving homes for all animals that come through. Since its beginning in early 2019, Gimpy Geckos has rehabbed and rehomed seven geckos.

Thank you for considering adoption as your first choice for finding a scaly new friend. Please check back often as new animals become available.
