As many of you know my focus is on the health and safety of your pets! I just became aware of a very large outbreak of respiratory illness caused by canine influenza in Birmingham, Alabama. Upon searching veterinary social media other cities around the country are also experiencing upticks in the number of coughing dogs in the last few days.

For those who don’t know there are two strains of canine influenza also known as dog flu, and just like flu & Covid in the human world it is a very contagious virus! It is spread through the air and dogs are most contagious before they even get really sick.

2015 was the last time there was a major outbreak of dog flu in the Atlanta area and many dogs were very sick and required hospitalization. We have not required vaccination against canine influenza to board at Best Little Dog House (& most of ther kennels have not either) but in light of this most recent information we highly highly recommend it. Please discuss this with your veterinarian ASAP.

If your dog has not been vaccinated for H3N2 and H3N8 strains of canine influenza in the last 18 months your veterinarian might recommend vaccination and that would involve a two booster series, One vaccine followed by a booster about three weeks later.

At this point, the bivalent flu vaccine that many veterinarians use is on back order, which is not ideal, so they may not be able to provide the vaccine, but you should at least discuss the matter with the team at your pet’s clinic.

If you are one of my patients & are not current on your pup’s influenza vaccine, I definitely recommend it. Contact Lucy’s via text to arrange that booster!

Hundreds of Birmingham-area dogs are becoming sick with a highly contagious illness called canine influenza. It’s so contagious, a Birmingham veterinarian is encouraging pet owners to keep their dogs at home if at all possible.

Hello to all of our amazing clients! A couple of announcements from the Lucy's team!

We have made a couple of changes to improve communication with all of our clients.

First off, due to our client base expanding over the last year (YAY!), we have upgraded to a new system that can better handle the vast amount of communication that happens on a daily basis.
We now have two separate numbers - one for Calling and one for Texting. The new texting number is 855-453-0655.

Our suggestion to avoid confusion is to save the new number (855-453-0655) as "Lucy's Vet - Texting" or something to that affect - As well as saving the original number (678-685-8297) seperately as "Lucy's Vet - Calling" or similar.

The purpose of having two separate numbers is to greatly improve communication and most importantly, avoid ever missing a call or text!

Feel free to still call us at our original number! But do note, eventually, the original 678 number will no longer have texting capability.

Secondly, we have incorporated a new appointment request system.

Going forward, to make an appointment request, please go to lucysvet.com and click "Schedule Now"
You can access the request link on your smartphone as well.

Many of you use the VitusVet app for requesting appointments, etc. We ask that you, too, use our new system as VitusVet will likely be discontinued.

ALWAYS feel free to text us to make an appointment or request any medication refills - anything you need!

We are going to give everyone a fair amount of time to adjust to these changes. Thank you in advance for your flexibility and understanding!

Let us know any questions you may have!

If you EVER feel that we haven't received your text - PLEASE give us a call! Unfortunately, no technology is flawless.
Also note, texting is the fastest way to communicate with us.

All of you are very important to us and we are super thankful to every one of our clients and your precious furbabies!

Best Regards,
Dr Baker,
Emma
& Megan

If any one is looking to add a new kitty to their family, I know of someone who found a Momma & her 2 babies and just can’t keep them as they already have a full house. I have met mom & she is soooo sweet & already had basic initial vet care. The kittens were found after I met Mom, but look to be 3-4 months old & I might be willing to throw in some baby kitten vet care to get them a home!!!

Meet the newest member of the Lucy’s family. This is Storm, adopted from Cobb County Animal Control. Just had vaccines done & didn’t even know thanks to a little distraction from her Mama, my daughter Lily. When your Mom is the doctor, you get to help out with the visit!
