We have been posting Jamie every single day for 34 straight days now, and she has had basically no interest in her. For some animals, we make a single post and are overwhelmed with applications, but that isn't the case for this sweet girl. People rarely come to play with her, and applications for her are basically non-existent.

We know not every home would be a perfect fit for her since she needs a home with no other animals. But even if you have other pets, you can still help Jamie out by spreading the word about her...talk to your friends and family or even just share her posts. We're not going to give up on her, but we need your help to find her forever home!

Jamie is 2 years old and she needs a home where she is the only animal. She LOVES her people and playing with toys. Office time and yard time are her favorite things in the world, especially when that means she gets to hang out with people. Her adoption fee is SPONSORED! (Edit: located in Jasper, Indiana)

Oakley is a precious "teenage" puppy who came to us because she was a little bit too much puppy for her family and they thought she deserved a home where she could have more room to run and play! They said that she was VERY sweet, friendly, and eager to please! Oakley is already almost completely house trained, is getting used to crate training, and loves meeting new people. Her favorite thing is to RUN and RUN outside and she wishes so badly that she had a playmate to run with her! Oakley is desperately searching for someone who is looking for a companion to grow with their family and share their adventures. She is spayed, vaccinated, and ready to join your family! Come on by and meet her today through 4 pm! 🐾

THIS is an example of where your donations go when you donate to our medical fund, donate food, treats, etc.

Dominic came to the shelter when he was completely broken down & had given up on life. Folks helped get him to the shelter where love and care could be poured into him.

He had monetary donations, toys and a blanket made just for him.

Yesterday he went home with his very special mom (& grandmom). His blanket & toys went with him. Before he left, he had a photoshoot with the fabulous Jackie Craig.

Jackie regularly visits the shelter with her daughter & they shower the dogs with love and attention. You can too!! Come on out Tue - Sat. The dogs need you so much.

Back to Dominic. He is now Nick. He is settling into his home and doing well. His Mom has started a page just for him. I’m sure she will pop into the comments & provide a link if you’d like to send Nick a friend request.

Happy life sweet Nick. Your days of neglect are OVER. ♥️♥️

I can't take him to the beach for a walk because it annoys you and disturbs the vacation... I have no right to rent a house if I have a dog, nor can I take him on public transportation.
However, I can take it to the rubble to find you after an earthquake, in the woods after you got lost in the mountains and had no map or gps; under the snow because you took a detour forbidden off the track; in the water because despite the red flag you have entered the sea, and your life is in danger!
And finally ...
He is just a dog, but he or she will find you. And it will save you!!!
Dedicated to all who DO NOT love dogs!

***FIFTH RARE CHANCE FOR CRITTER*** PLEASE MAKE IT COUNT!

***ON EMERGENCY AT RISK PLACEMENT LIST FOR THURSDAY 8/15/24 DEADLINE IS NOON. ***

Client's partner, arrived at BACC with a stray cat that he found on his fire escape. He first saw the cat about a week ago and other than trying to enter his apartment, the cat has not moved from his fire escape. Client has been providing food and water for the cat and been on the lookout for any neighbors posting about missing cats, but has been unsuccessful in trying to find an owner.

Critter is on the at-risk list due to behavior. He is not thriving in the care center and continues to display challenging behavior during interactions. He is extremely intelligent and high energy, and needs to expend energy constructively with interactive play sessions 3-4X/day. In addition to playtime, this cat would also benefit from mental exercise from activities such as puzzle toys/games, lick mats, or clicker training. Without providing activity for his mind and body, the cat may react with rough play, potentially resulting in bite/scratch incidents. It is in his best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. He would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give him plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with feline body language, overstimulation, rough play, and who have the time to invest in managing these behaviors on a consistent basis to avoid (further) bite/scratch incidents.

What my friends at ACC say about me:
My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet!
It is unknown if I have ever lived with other animals or children.
I have medical needs that staff will address with you when you meet me.
I'm sensitive and shy. I'll need extra help from you.

Due to the detailed behavior issues, this animal is only available for foster/adoption through one of ACC's New Hope Partners. If you are interested in adopting or fostering, please fill out the pre-screener form. This animal is not directly available for adoption through ACC and is only available by completing the pre-screener form.Adoption inquiries sent directly to ACC will not receive a response.

Queens Center

Hello, my name is Critter. My animal id is #204757. I am a desexed male gray tabby cat at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 1 years 3 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a stray on 7/11/2024.

Critter is on the at-risk list due to behavior. He is not thriving in the care center and continues to display challenging behavior during interactions. He is extremely intelligent and high energy, and needs to expend energy constructively with interactive play sessions 3-4X/day. Behavior History
Behavior Assessment

KNOWN HISTORY:: Critter was found on a fire escape and brought in as a stray. There is no known information on his behavior history in a home environment.

Upon intake, Critter was alert and curious in the carrier he was brought in. He had dilated eyes and a loose body. He came out of the carrier on his own when it was opened and looked around curiously. He allowed soft petting from staff and staff were able to scan for a mc with ease (mc negative). He went into the den on his own and ate soft churru treats provided. Did not collar.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 7/18/24 FB58
High energy, laying near the front of the cage on his back rolling side to side and playing with a toy with pupil dilated and eyes wide. He allows pets along his back and side with the scratcher tool, pausing at times to sniff the tool. Very preoccupied with playing.

7/21/24 FB79
Standing with a high tail at the front of his kennel, Critter lets out a few chirps and starts to rub against the kennels. He allows all pets and enjoys all treaties.

ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Energetic

VOCAL:: Somewhat chatty

CHARACTER TYPE: : Bold,Social,Demanding,Playful,People oriented,Curious,Timid,Skittish

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful,Very high energy level,Other,New home adjustment period

Potential challenges comments:: Critter has a previous bite/scratch incident on 7/13/24 during which: an adoptions counselor was completing an interaction with him when Critter scratched the adopter. Critter was attempting to exit the kennel after this. The adoptions counselor attempted to keep him from doing so, but the Critter scratched and bit her, leaving two puncture wounds and scratches on her left hand while she went to close the kennel door.

During interactions with the behavior team following his bite/scratch incident, Critter continued to show signs of overstimulation as well as a high energy level. While he accepts and appears to appreciate pets, as indicated during the incident after petting occurred, he appears to have a limited threshold for petting before he resorts to scratching and biting. He may show signs such as a more tense body, tail swaying/swishing quickly, ears tilting, when he begins to get overstimulated.

During his evaluation, Critter accepted pets along his head and body with the Assess-A-Hand but remained slightly tense as he would lean his head or head bunt into the tool. When pet along his sides, he would accept some pets before flipping over onto his other side as if he was getting overstimulated slightly. However, when the assessor moved the tool near his belly to test upward pressure, he tenses with ears tilted to the side and swats at the Assess-A-Hand before grabbing it with his front paws and biting it multiple times. He does not hiss, growl or vocalize during this. When the fake hand is moved near him slowly, he again lunges to bite and hold the hand down. His reaction appears to be some combination of overstimulation as well as a fear response. While at times he may be curious and appreciative of pets, he may still in general be wary or sensitive to interaction or may have sensitivity to being touched near his stomach.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : New Hope Only

RECOMMENDATIONS:: Adult only home

Recommendations comments:: Due to his previous bite/scratch incident as well as behaviors shown in the shelter, the behavior team feels it would be best for Critter to go to an adult-only home.

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: On approach, Critter is laying towards the front of the cage with a slightly tense face and tail swishing as he lays and watches the room. His ears tilt when the cage door is opened and the assessor slowly offers the Assess-A-Hand out to him. He leans forward to sniff and accepts pets along his head and sides. He leans his head and cheeks into pets and allows some pets along his side before he scrambles slightly to flip onto that side (in what may be an attempt to limit stimulation to that side). When the assessor then slowly moves the hand near his belly to test upward pressure, he tenses with ears tilted to the side and swats at the Assess-A-Hand before grabbing it with his front paws and biting it multiple times. He does not hiss, growl or vocalize during this. When the fake hand is moved near him slowly, he again lunges to bite and hold the hand down. The interaction is ended and he sits upright at the back of the cage with a tense face and body and eyes wide and dilated.

Critter is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. He has tried to swat, scratch, bite and does not currently tolerate extended petting or pick up/handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.

Unfortunately we had to remove all the hyperlinks to their websites to see if this was the reason our posts kept getting flagged from FB. The one main link will bring you to many of the ACC outlets of their page such as what we have posted below.

Emergency At Risk Placement list, Emergency outcome list, Location and Hours, List of New Hope shelter rescue partners - You will have to navigate through their site. If you type in nycacc (with out the and) .org all in one word into your browser it should take you onto their main site. You will have to navigate through their site depending what you are looking for. 🌟 During kitten season, it’s all too common for the focus to be solely on saving the tiny kittens. But let’s not forget the unsung heroes of the story: the mama cats. 🐱 There’s no “kitten stork” bringing these babies into the world, and many of these devoted mothers are overlooked as they try to keep their little ones safe.

Mama cats are often wary of strangers and may not be as easily seen or socialized, which makes it easy for them to slip through the cracks. While it’s crucial to get those adorable kittens to safety, we must also extend our compassion and efforts to include their resilient moms and it is so important to get them spayed. stops the breeding cycle and makes sure no more kittens are born on the streets, where 75% don’t survive. Let’s remember that every kitten’s survival story starts with a loving mama. 🐾❤️

Mama Quiche was a stray with five babies, and she was totally emaciated. She was not able to to find food for herself, let alone feed 5 babies. When petting her, you can feel every bone in her body. And she is sick on-top of it all. She is Waffle’s mom, so no surprise that the babies have been sick too.

Congratulations to Marshall!

The painstaking life of rescue is so hard. Seeing these innocent animals in the shelters and rescuing as many as possible is both heartbreaking and rewarding. Marshall is one of the lucky ones, and after caring for him for a little over a year, he has found his forever home. I have tears of joy because black dogs are extremely hard to place; it's called Black Dog Syndrome. Marshall is smart, kind, loving, and adored by his new family.

We are deeply grateful as we continue to endure this horrific heat wave. We supply water, trucks, and ice to keep the dogs as comfortable as we can. Our air conditioners are taxed, and if anyone wants to donate towards water, ice, and the replacement of two smaller air conditioner units, it would be greatly appreciated. These units are hard to find right now, but we can get them on Amazon. 🙏🐾🐕
