Our little extended family lost another very good girl, one who was part of my introduction to the world of dog sports and all that it has to offer. My boss, who is also a trainer, a mentor, and a friend, said goodbye to Nova, and heaven gets to be just a bit brighter now. I know the friends she had waiting for her at the other side of the bridge had to be countless. She did so much in her 16 years, and how she influenced us was only the tiniest fraction of her impact. Nova showed Jenna how to be a demo dog and what competitions were all about.

Here they are in 2015, during Jenna’s very first trial weekend, when she earned her RN. That’s what started it all, for us. And the rest, as they say, is history. Thank you, Nova, for being a part of our story. 💜

“Distill a whole year down into a day
Act like we all start over with a pristine slate
But to get yourself a new life, you’ve got to give the other one away

I did not want this change, but it has been thrust upon me. Walking into 2025 without you was something I did not foresee. I thought we’d finish your RACH this year. I thought our beach trip to Galveston in the summer would be the first in a series (with you, specifically, but we’ll still make the venture in your memory). I thought we’d get to take our family photos in coordinating plaids. I thought we had time.

I guess all I can realistically promise is that I will keep you with me in all the ways that are possible. Your name will remain the familiar utterance it has always been. I will carry your memory for all of my days. I do not want a fresh start, but I will reluctantly accept this different perspective. You’re going to stay with me in this new year, although not in the manner I feel I need, and certainly not the one that I want. You will not be left behind.

I love you, Jenna. 💜
