Chip Check

Chip Check Too many veterinarians do not make it a standard practice to scan for chips on new patients coming into their office without prior medical records. Thank you.

Chip Check is an awareness campaign aimed at encouraging veterinarians and their staffs to always scan for a chip in a dog or cat when the animal is a first time patient coming into their practice without prior medical records. The excuses they give as to why they don't do this is many and all ludicrous! Be sure to "Like" www.facebook.com/BringJuiceHome. Juice is our dog that has been missing from

WOW!! Update on the little pup we just posted:
After scanning him for a microchip and finding one, we called the number and were met with a sobbing mom on the other end - he's been missing since AUGUST!! She didn't waste a moment, she was at our shelter in minutes and we all cried right along with her! His name is Roscoe and he is HOME SAFE with his momma where he belongs!
🚨Please microchip your pets, it's the only sure way to make sure they get home quick should the worst happen. Any Veterinarian office can do it, and most are given when your pet is spayed or neutered. If you're unsure if your pet is microchipped, you can take them to your vet or nearest pet store to be scanned! Make sure your information is UP TO DATE! If you've moved or changed your number, this is a good reminder to update it.

We have a story for you. It was 2 degrees outside today at 1:00pm, and I was leaving work when I saw something sitting on the side of the road. Near Blackdog Road just south of the river along 35W-nothing around for a mile. I couldn't believe what I saw so I turned around and saw a black cat sitting along the freeway looking at the cars drive by. No where to go, river to the north, freeway to the west, a huge wetland to the east. He lifted one cold paw, then the other. I went up to him and he dove into a 25' long drainage pipe and was living under the off ramp. Three hours later, Carolyn and I were trudging down a steep embankment setting traps. We set two traps and within minutes, he was in the trap. Anne offered to take him him. She found a chip in him, called the owner. Freddie has been missing from South Minneapolis since 2015. Thanks to a microchip, he was found 16 miles from home, three cities away. In five hours, Freddie went from living in 2 degree weather under an off ramp to going home-owner is picking him up tomorrow. Lesson of the day, it takes team work, never turn your back, and CHIP your animals! I have more pictures.

What a story!!!

A Scottsdale woman experienced a Christmas miracle of sorts after she was reunited with her dog, which she last saw two years ago.

This is an X-ray of a dog’s bent front leg. See that tiny white spec? That’s a microchip! It has migrated down the leg....far from where it was inserted, between the dog’s shoulders. This is actually quite common.....

When lost pets are scanned, the entire body SHOULD be scanned to catch any that have migrated. But, as an owner, IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY AT THEIR YEARLY VET EXAM, to ask for a quick scan to make sure that: (1) the chip is still working, (2) the location of the chip is good, and (3) that the chip info is correct.

Remember microchips save lives and reunite families with their pet.... just have it checked regularly!

Always keep your pet's chip up-to-date when your contact information, even if your animal is missing.

Always keep your pet's chip up-to-date when your contact information, even if your animal is missing.

This is Max and his momma. He went missing last summer from his home in San Antonio. Momma saw security video of someone climbing her fence last summer and taking her dog. The man hoisted Max over the fence to his friends waiting on the other side. And that was the last time momma saw Max. She called police who told her there was nothing they could do (despite having video).

So today, two gentlemen were driving down 181 in Poth heading toward their ranch. They noticed cars swerving ahead and then saw a brown dog erratically running in the highway. The dog was petrified and obviously had no idea where he was or where to go. The men stopped their truck to help usher the dog off the highway, but instead, the dog immediately ran into the cab of the truck…and he wasn’t coming out! So the men drove to WCNKAS to see if we could help. We scanned for a microchip (which is always our first action with a new animal) and BOOM — he’s chipped!

We called the chip company and identified an owner. Electronic found pet alerts were initiated and we made phone calls to all the numbers on the account. Within 10 minutes the owner of this terrified brown dog called us back. IT WAS MAX!!! Max’s momma was in tears!!! She was shocked and super happy! She immediately left work and headed for the shelter. When she entered the office and began talking, Max began whining and scratching from the kennel in the other room — he recognized her voice! We were just as ecstatic as Max and his momma with this reunion. If Max could talk, he’d probably have some stories to tell.

HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY TAILS!!!

Microchips work, but only when you REGISTER the chip to you, the owner. Moral of the story, microchip your pets and register those chips!

REUNITED | Capone's owner drove all the way from Florida to pick him up from the shelter today! We were able to contact her thanks to his microchip.

Capone was surrendered to the shelter earlier this week by a family who recently relocated to Fort Wayne from Florida. When we checked for a microchip his original owner's information popped up so we gave her a call. As the legal owner, we gave her the opportunity to claim Capone if she wanted and GUESS WHAT she got in her car and drove up from FLORIDA to get him today! He was so excited to see her and there were happy tears all around.

Once again a microchip saved the day!

August 15 is Check the Chip day! It is important to know your dog or cat's microchip number and the phone number of the microchip company. IF YOUR PET IS LOST, YOU MUST CALL THE COMPANY TO NOTIFY THEM AND TO CHECK YOUR CONTACT INFORMATION IS CORRECT.

Check the Chip Day is an attempt to raise awareness that getting your animal microchipped is only HALF the process. You MUST register the microchip with your contact information or the microchip will probably not get your lost animal home.

In my experience, half of all microchips are not registered, which means they have no contact information, or have incorrect contact information. Chances are good you changed phone numbers since you got your pet!

If you do not have the microchip number, any vet will scan your pet for free. Banfields in PetSmart can do it. Whoever scans your pet may be able to tell you which company to call to check the registration. If not, put the number into PetMicrochipLookup.org to see what company to call. You can message me the first 6 digits and I can tell you.

Keep the microchip number with your vet records. You may need it if you evacuate. Never publish the number or put it on a Lost Flyer. It is private owner information.

If you find a dog or cat with a microchip and the animal falls into that category of having insufficient contact information, our nonprofit can help. MicrochipHelp.com
