We're officially on Hospice care for our other Butterfly 🦋 "Buxxu" "The Flea". He is Bàgan's litter mate brother. It's been almost 8 weeks since we lost him and Buxxu has declined rapidly the last few weeks. They spent their entire life together. His good days were sporadic as of late and gone now. Please hold him and the Butterfly Nest in your thoughts.

https://www.akc.org/legislative-alerts/texas-longview-advisory-committee-recommends-mandatory-spay-neuter-breeder-permits/

The Longview TX Animal Shelter Advisory Committee has approved an ordinance mandating spaying/neutering, creating intact animal permits, and establishing an animal breeder license. The Longview City Council will consider this ordinance package in the coming weeks. Local news reports indicate the ordinance is intended to address shelter overpopulation issues.

How to Help
The City Council needs to hear from constituents as soon as possible. Longview residents should contact their Councilmember immediately to express strong opposition to this proposal. Inform them that this ordinance will not effectively address shelter population issues and will unfairly punish responsible owners. You can find email contact forms for the mayor and council members HERE.

Talking Points and Resources

Mandatory spay/neuter laws are often proposed as a quick-fix solution to animal control concerns. Proponents incorrectly believe these laws will reduce animal shelter populations and stray animals. However, such laws have not proven effective and often result in increased numbers of homeless dogs and cats. Consider the following points when communicating your concerns:

Financially challenged owners may be forced to relinquish or abandon their pets, increasing shelter and stray populations.
These laws punish responsible owners who keep their dogs intact for legitimate purposes such as conformation competition, field trials, hunting, and responsible breeding programs.
Recent scientific studies show that early spaying/neutering can cause long-term health issues in dogs.
Mandatory spay/neuter laws are difficult to enforce and may lead to public health concerns when owners avoid routine veterinary care to hide non-compliance.
Lawmakers should focus on increased enforcement of leash laws, fully funded low-cost spay/neuter programs, and public education promoting responsible dog ownership.
Intact dog permits and animal breeder licensing are not appropriate solutions for responsible owners of intact dogs.
The AKC opposes intact animal permits and local breeder licensing as unnecessary regulation of responsible pet owners. These permits:

Unfairly target responsible breeders and pet owners
Invade law-abiding dog owners’ privacy
Create additional bureaucracy and financial burdens
Do nothing to improve animal welfare

ABKC Rocky Mountain Classic 2 UPDATE:
Hosted by Bryan Romero Brooke Romero Lisa Ann Pedraza. Thank you so much for another WONDERFUL show. Booth sizes were great! Pipe and drape is pretty but it drastically reduces the comfort of the size of the booth. The music was kept at a great level. Not blaring into the rings or so loud we couldn't hear our classes or have to scream at our dogs on the end of the lead. The show started on time which is a HUGE thing for many of us w multiple dogs. TWO BRAGS to my crew really quick.

ADOPTED

Willow is a beautiful 9 year old girl who is hoping to find her forever family just in time for the holidays. Willow weighs 60 pounds. She has that true German Shepherd spirit. She is sensitive, intelligent and loving. Willow loves her people but she is also ok being independent. She is a very special girl. Willow has exhibited impeccable manners. She is housebroken and will patiently wait for her walks. Willow might have been an outdoor dog because she doesn't mind spending time in the fresh air. She should have a securely fenced yard so that she can enjoy her outside time while being safe.

Willow has been around other dogs and was fine. She wouldn't mind a doggie friend as long as they possess the same respectful personality that she has. We don't know of any cat history with Willow, therefore, we are asking for a feline free home. Because of the unpredictable nature of small children her rescuers are asking for a home without children under 10 years of age.

Willow is posted for Save-A-Mutt. She is being fostered in Snohomish County, WA.
For more information about Willow, please submit a Save-A-Mutt adoption application. Applications can be found at www.save-a-mutt.org

This is not an Old Dog Haven dog. We urge prospective adopters to do their own evaluation.

Benson is another boy who has not had any inquiries. We are hoping this round of shares will help find him the home he's waiting for!

8 year old Benson is a magnificent boy! Reported to be a Rhodesian Ridgeback/German Shepherd mix, he is a large fellow weighing 95 pounds. While he is a loving boy who is a great companion for adults, he is not meant for a home with young children or small animals. He has killed a chicken and a wild rabbit.

It has been a few years since Benson lived with another dog. In his home he is an only animal and this suits him just fine. Currently one of his humans is home almost all of the time. He has not recently spent much time alone but we are told when he has been left alone inside his home he has behaved himself. Of course one needs to allow him to settle in before leaving him at home alone. Leaving a dog for short periods of time to gradually let them adapt and learn you are coming back is always best for a dog when they first arrive.

Benson enjoys daily walks. He is said to be good on leash but because of his size, his adopter should be able to manage his strength. Benson loves to run and play for short spurts. A home with a securely fenced yard would be perfect for Benson. This would give Benson a place to explore or just hang out when he's not lounging inside the house. Benson loves playing with balls (though we are told he destroys them). His favorite toy is a full sized basketball that is partially deflated. Benson also loves playing in water. He has fun chasing a laser pointer, just like a cat!

Benson has arthritis in his knees and front shoulder. He takes Cosequin and a veterinarian prescribed Vetprofen to help with this. For this reason, a home without many stairs would be best for Benson. He is not much of a barker, we are told he only barks when he sees other dogs. But he has been friendly with friendly dogs he meets while on leash. However, he has been friendly with friendly dogs he meets while on leash.

Benson needs a committed adopter who will continue with his care to keep him comfortable and monitor his health. This loving boy is very attentive to his humans; recognizing when one doesn't feel well and stays close. Benson is in need of an adoptive home very soon.

Benson is located in Federal Way, WA. For contact information please email: [email protected]

This is a courtesy post. Benson is not an Old Dog Haven dog. We urge prospective adopters to do their own evaluation.
