Meet Manoli and Bobby ()

Our Story

Bobby is a 7-year-old beagle who lives in the southwest of Spain, near the beach and the mountains.

A friend of mine heard at the vet that someone gave puppies at a nearby town. I had become independent and I wanted a dog of my own so I called him. The next day, I met Bobby at a petrol station and adopted him at that precise moment.

First of all, we went to the vet. There I was given the layette. Bobby was two and a half months old. In the beginning, he was an energetic and a bit stubborn beagle. Learning our new routine was not an easy job, it took a while, but I wanted him to be happy so I tried to know how to be a better life companion for him: the key is positive education.

I think a well behaved and happy dog requires his biological, emotional, social, and cognitive needs to be fulfilled. Now, Bobby is a sociable and very empathetic dog. He loves adventure and long walks as much as food and sleeping. We usually go running (canicross included). In fact, I am fond of doing exercise at present thanks to him.

Some of my proudest moments have come about with Bobby, he brings out the compassion and patience that makes me a better person.

Tips

If your dog is beloved, treated with profound love and respect, happiness goes both ways. It’s all about the bond. Dogs are not robots, they are treasured companions.

Meet Iasko ()

Our Story

Iasko is a samoyed, who is 5 years old and lives in France. He came to our family at two and a half months. He was very awaited because he was a dream of his owner since childhood. He lives in a big family who loves him very much!

Iasko has little brother Gaby. Gaby is a dachshund that was born on Christmas and I adopted him because he lived on a farm where he was abused, slept outside and was crushed by a horse when he was a puppy. So he has one eye, but Iasko is always there to protect him!

Iasko is like a polar bear, but he is sweet as a lamb! When he was little he was very stubborn but it is typical for Samoyed. It was, therefore, necessary to give him a very good education with a lot of patience.

He loves rivers and the snow but he does not like the sea. In the winter, we take him in the woods once a week. Iasko spends about 6 hours a day outside and does a lot of walking without a leash in the wild because now he is obedient.

Every night, he walks in a park where there are plenty of other dogs, with whom he can play.

He has a hunter's soul for rats. He can wait for hours and hours under the trees waiting for them to come out. His bark is very sharp and often people think it's a little dog when they have not seen it yet. Iasko loves everyone, no matter humans or dogs.

Meet Rose and Kya ()!

Our Story

My name is Rose and this Is Kya. We live on the Gold Coast Australia. She is turning 11 in November. I met her when I was 16 and decided I need to get a puppy so convinced my mum to let me buy her from a local town. She was 5 weeks old.

She’s traveled all around my home country NZ with me and has relocated to Australia and also traveled over five different states and lives in two. She’s my absolute best friend and I couldn’t do it without her!

Tips

My only advise or tip would be to go to puppy classes even if it’s mainly for socializing and socialize your dog as much as possible. Kya had doggy friends but didn’t met lots of random dogs and now can be aggressive with dogs she doesn’t know. If I could go back and change that I would. But she’s still the most loving friend I’ve ever had❤️

Meet Ainara and Saylo ()

Our Story

I and my partner were looking for a dog, we have always liked animals and especially dogs, for all the love they give. So we started looking, it was clear that we didn't want to buy, so we started looking at different associations. And we found an association with special care, The Golden Fran Association. In addition to rescuing, caring and finding a suitable family through personal interviews, once the dog is adopted, they advise and always are there when you need them. That's how Saylo came into our lives, he was 6 months old when we adopted him and, now, it's the best we have.

Tips

About the advice, in addition to giving him a lot of love, something that helped us to not to do what he wanted all the time, was to teach him who was the boss. There are only two rules that must be followed to achieve that. First, when entering and leaving the house, he has to be the last and always after giving permission, with a gesture or word is enough. Second, at lunchtime, we eat first, and once we finish it is the dogs' turn.

Meet Alexandra and her lovely frenchie Domi ()!

Our Story

I wanted my own dog for a while, but my husband didn’t want one, furthermore, we lived in a flat. He never had a dog before. For a long time, I sent every adoption post that I saw to my husband, to show him how many cute dogs are looking for a family. One evening he said to me, that if I find a frenchie we will adopt one.

After a day I found Domi ❤️ She was 4,5 years old. First time when we met, she was so cuteeeee. She sat on my lap. We fall in love with Domi. After a few days, we adopted her. Multiple times we visited vet doctors due to ear and skin infection. We spend lots of money, I could buy a little one, but I wanted to help. We adopted her with an autoimmune illness, but now she is 100% healthy. The only problem was that she wanted to get more love!

Tips

What I can say for the other adopted dog owner, love their dog more and more and your doggy will be the happiest in the world. We love her to the moon and back ❤️

Meet Michelle and her stylish Stanley and Ruby ()!

Our Story

Stanley and Ruby were both from reputable breeders. We are a hockey family and Stan is named after the NHL Stanley cup. Ruby is short for Ruble and as a nod to Russia, our son's place of birth. It’s amazing how different their personalities are. Stan is nearly always very serious and Ruby is carefree and silly. They are both good smugglers and love being outside.

Tips

I would say the best advice is to have patience. Positive reinforcement (treatos) for good behavior and ignoring behaviors that are less than acceptable are the best training tools.

Meet Michelle and MAC (.mcgroodle)!

Our Story

Hi, I am M.A.C a 12-year-old groodle who was recently adopted a little over a year ago by my pawrents Michelle and Rod.
They had a beautiful girly Dalmatian called Coco Pops and one day I ran away from home and found her. Well, we were in love from the beginning. The house where I was living at the time, my initial family , really were too busy to look after me and I was very bored and lonely..... That's why I ran away from home... Anyway, after meeting Coco Pops about 6 months later I moved in permanently. I had terrible separation anxiety at the beginning but she helped calm me and I'm a different dog today... Unfortunately, she passed away a few months ago we all miss her she was such a beautiful soul. I think I actually came into my pawrent's life just at the right time because I have been a great source of support to them.

Tips

Separation anxiety can be an issue when my pawrents go out but they put on dog calming music 10 minutes before they go out, give me a treat and leave on the music.

Meet Mary and Mabel ()!

Our Story

We found Mabel through a breeder at the end of our apartment lease, just before we moved. It was a sign that such a beautiful puppy with a personality to match chose us! We fell in love with her instantly. She has so much love to give and is constantly learning new things. Mabel loves people of all ages and dogs of all sizes. She gives our family’s Doberman a run for his money!

Tips

Crate training is the best thing to prevent separation anxiety and for potty training. Mabel never whines at night and seldom cries when we leave her for a couple of hours every now and then. We also intermittently reward her with treats and praise based only on good behavior. Lastly, Mabel had some dandruff when we first got her but salmon oil has been doing miracles on her double coat. Highly recommend!

Tim, Suus and Evi (.evi)

Our Story

Evi is a Leonberger from the Netherlands. A kind-hearted and gentle big girl. Evi loves to go for a walk in nature, is obsessive with Kong-balls and loves to play and do brain games. She is 2,5 right now and we share a beautiful story. Tim and Suus are her hooman parents, but she still sees her fur-mom (and her half-sister, aunts and nieces) almost every week. That’s because the parents of Suus are Leonberger breeders (Dhiya Sayen). Suus was there when Evi was born, so there has been a bond since day one. An amazing experience I can tell you.

After eight long weeks, we could finally take Evi home with us. The first two weeks we slept on the couch in the living room, so we could go out at night easily without waking each other. It made our life a lot easier!

Tips

Every time you played with your puppy, take them outside because they will p*e :)

During the first 2/3 weeks, every time the pup makes a sound, take them out for a bit. Evi never p*ed in the house because of this. We both took 1,5 week off of work to train this with her.

Have chewing toys/sticks everywhere where your dog is in the house, so they won't chew up your furniture ;)

If their little or big for that matter, besides taking them for nice walks, do brain-training with them so they are mentally challenged. As a pup Leonbergers are not allowed to do very long walks, but in this way, they also get their satisfaction.

Alex and Cornelius ()

Our Story

My husband and I decided to put our name on a waiting list to adopt a corgi. The rescue organization and various friends told me it could be a long wait because there aren’t a lot of corgis that need rescuing and corgis are in hot demand. We settled in for what we thought would be a long and wait and then, the very next day(!) we got a call from the rescue organization that a local family had abandoned their senior dog and he needed to be immediately re-housed.

We had to act fast and decide if we wanted this dog. Which we absolutely did! So we went and picked up Cornelius and we became a happy family of three that day! Looking back, the adjustment period was rough. Cornelius barely ate and didn’t want to play. But over time he’s learned to trust us and now he makes our lives better and happier every day! He loves long walks, playing fetch, and watching and barking at people walking past our house.

Tips

My number one tip for dog owners but especially people adopting dogs is: give your dog time to adjust to his or her new surroundings. Just know it may take weeks for your dog’s true personality to emerge. In the meantime, it’s best to establish a routine and really stick with it—routines make dogs feel safe and loved!

Michela and Maci ()

Our Story

Hi ya’ll, I’m Michela and this sweet little girl is my 9 weeks old bluenose Pitbull, Maci. We live in California with my boyfriend and our six-year-old daughter for seven years!

Maci came to me so quickly it kind of made my head spin, in the best way possible. I woke up Saturday morning and something deep down told me to look online at the shelters. My daughter had to cheer at a football game that morning so I had planned on stopping at some shelters on the way home just to see some of the dogs. After searching through some of the shelters, I thought ‘what the heck, I’ll just check Craigslist’.

After about thirty minutes and looking and not really coming across anything, she popped up. She was tiny and the only little girl in a all boy liter. I knew I just had to have her, but I just knew that would take some convincing on my part to my boyfriend.

I took my daughter to her game, and called her dad and started to explain to him about his little puppy that was about 30 minutes from our home, and how badly I wanted her. I felt like I had to have her, there was something about the pictures I had received of her that pulled at my heart. After a couple hours he finally agreed and we set out to go pick her up.

We finally pulled up to this little tiny house, with windows broken out and not a blade of grass to be seen. Maci was stuffed into a little carry crate, and as we got out of the car 5 large pitbull’s walked up to us and started stuffing. The lady handed me Maci and I started asking a couple questions, I was able to meet Maci’s dad but was told her momma was tied up because she bites.

We got back into our car and decided that we had probably saved this little girl from a rough life. We brought her home and she fit right in, and she continues to fit right in. She is a huge mommas girl, and loves to play and snuggle!

Vivienne and Teddy ()

Our Story

I met Teddy five years ago in Melbourne, Australia, when I was studying for my bachelor degree. I always love dogs especially golden retriever and I always wanted one. So I decided to have a dog, and here we are today. Basically Teddy is an Australian, he is a pure-blood Australia golden retriever. The day I met him I knew I will graduate one day and go back to my home town, Hong Kong. I always knew I will fly back to HK together with Teddy.

Teddy came to HK with me 2 years ago when he was 3 and a half, we flew in the same flight together. He adapts HK perfectly well but I think he still likes Melbourne more due to the beautiful weather and plenty of parks, hills, beaches and dog pool etc over there. Back when we were in Melbourne, we spent our evenings in the dog park nearly every day, we slept together (of course now as well), we explored different places, well...time flies, too much good memories and I’m so so so lucky to have teddy with me.

Tips

There are too many tips, Teddy is my son and I guess if you love your children enough, you will always willing to learn and discover more. I would say don’t feed them too much because overweight can be really for dogs especially most of them have bad joints in the hip, overweight will make them very suffering and difficult to walk and for their legs to support their body, as well as it is very hard for dogs to lose weight, it takes much longer time and harder compare with human.

Also, don’t forget about the monthly pills for flea, ticks, heartworms, etc. This is a must, and should be a monthly routine (depends on what brand or kind of pills they are having but mostly monthly).

Let them do more exercises in outdoor, have more walks, it is always good for their mental and physical health.

Last but not least, please give them more attention. We human have a wonderful and busy life that is full with schedules, we have work, friends, family, our other half and even children, our ambition, our dream to chase, entertainment, etc.
How about our dogs? What do they have? They don’t have family or work, they have nothing to depend on, but ONLY you. You are their ever

Charlie ()

Our Story

We met Charlie on the same day we were meant to adopt another dog from the shelter. It took one ear scratch from Charlie and we were destined to take him home.

He is a fantastic companion who never leaves your side when you are at home.

Tips

Be patient to create your bond with your dog. Once you have it, it is virtually unbreakable. Take the time to train them, spend time with them, and show them the world.

Lots of love from Sydney Australia ❤️

Pippi (.corgi)

Our Story

My fiancé and I were looking for a Welsh Corgi Cardigan and came across our breeder through the Norwegian Kennel Club. We went to see her when she was around 6 weeks old and brought her home at 9 weeks.

Tips

Take some time off work. Clear out your schedule and make everything in your power to make the puppy safe with and around you. We took holidays off for 2 months and she’s now 5 months old, happy, strong, independent and smart.

A tip for future Corgi owners would be that you need to make sure that you are the boss, and not the corgi. They will take charge, if you don’t 😊⠀

Farah and Kai ()

Our Story

Kai was meant to come to my home! I was looking for a dog for a very long time because of my friends Shamik and Kiran who had beautiful dogs one golden retriever and a lab. I used to spend time with them first because we were all friends and secondly the dogs grew closer to me too. I wasn’t a confident person when it came to managing dogs but slowly I grew so fond of them that they all told me it was time to get one for myself.

Since then my search began. I always knew I wanted a golden retriever only because they relate to humans so beautifully and are temperamentally calm composed and loving. I brought Kai from a farm in Punjab where he lived with a big family of dogs. I got in touch with the owner of these dogs and she turned out to be a lady. We immediately connected and I requested her to give me one. She Skyped for a few days to see which one I liked and she also assessed me if I was the right one for Kai. Thereafter there was no looking back.

But all said and done dogs brought me closer to dogs and my love for them only grew.

Tips

Talk to your dog every day, he/she is listening to every single thing you feel and say. They can be the best company humans can ever have and make sure you check them well every day because they feel safe, confident, loved and happy that they are well taken care of. A happy dog is a confident dog who knows he is loved and taken care of well.

One more interesting tip to share would be to give natural treats like carrots and cucumbers rather than dog packet treats. Keeps your little fluff healthier and in control.

Desiree and her Tess & Maggie ()

Our Story

Tess, we bought from a breeder after doing lots of research on the border collie breed and different pedigree lines.

Maggie, we got for free. For a couple of years in a row, we visited this holiday apartment in Germany. The owners - a Dutch couple - owned Maggie. The first time we came there Tess was only 6 months old and Maggie was still a rather young dog as well. The dogs spend most of the time playing in their garden, while meanwhile, we became a sort of friends with the owners. We loved the place and so we visited it a couple of years in a row. At one point, Maggie's owners came to visit at our house as they wanted to see our farm. There they also told us they were going to divorce, and they had no place for Maggie to go. They didn't have time for her anymore and it had clearly affected her - she was very obese (8kg too heavy) and clearly very unhappy.

They told us that Mag wasn't good with other dogs and one of the only dogs she was really good with was Tess. Besides, they knew me and Tess and what we do together and they absolutely loved it and told us they thought our place would be the best for Maggie. So a couple of days later, we took her in for a test period of 10 days. Maggie was very bounded to her owners and she had such huge separation anxiety. She tried to run away from us, looking for her owners but she couldn't find her. I walked her with 2 leashes to be sure she wouldn't start running again.

To be sure we took her to the vet for blood tests as she looked really bad and never stopped panting. The blood test was fine, but later on, we did find out she had some food allergies. We already knew Maggie and knew she had some health/behavioral issues but she is a sweet dog, so we decided to keep her. It took a long time for her to start trusting us and feeling home with us, but she's doing good now. She's back to a healthy weight again and happy and playful as a puppy.

Lara and Looney ()

Our Story

Our paths with Looney crossed when she was three years old. My friend rescued her from an abusive owner. He was beating her, cut her, break her tail, her collar was too small, she was anemic because all the fleas and ticks and for three years she was closed in a henhouse.

It took me more than a year to show her that not all people are bad, to teach her how to play and how to walk the stairs. I have worked with abused dogs before, but her case was really bad. Her spirit was totally broken.

My other dog helped me a lot with her. He was the one that taught her what toys are for and other doggy stuff. Now she enjoys life to the fullest and we are one happy pack.

Tips

Never give up on dogs. Abused dogs can be rehabilitated. Have patience and take your time. Be calm. Dogs can feel the energy. Try to find the best way for them. You can teach one trick or solve behavior problem in a lot of different ways.

If your dog doesn't do what you expect of him it's probably because he doesn't understand what you want from him. Never use force. Try to figure out what makes him happy (food, toys, praise petting) and use this as a reward. When you use vocal praise always mean it and say.⠀

Charlotte and Peppe ()

Our Story

Pepe’s almost 16 years old and he came from a breeder. So much has changed since then. I would never buy another dog. It would be adopting all the way now! That being said, he is our little ray of sunshine and we love him to pieces!

Tips

We cook food for Pepe. And I think this has helped a lot to keep his nose wet and his tail wagging. We cook together meat, livers, brown rice, vegetables, legumes, and pulses. We serve it with a splash of olive oil to keep his coat nice and shiny. It’s also a good idea to finish off the meal with something hard to chew to clean teeth.

Upasana and Tequila (.and.paints)

Our Story

I was gifted tequila for my 11th birthday, he’s been with my family ever since.

Tequila has a lot of medical problems; he’s got a limp from an accident he had as a pup, he developed diabetes 6 years ago and got diabetic cataract 2 years after. Although we tried to correct it surgically he has lost 70% of his vision. Recently he also had seizures which is suspected to be a side effect of diabetes and the insulin shots.

Nevertheless, he is still the same grumpy little guy who is the most loved in the household. He often travels with us and he’s never alone. He goes to the office with my mother during the days I am at college. He loves food more than anything else, just maybe his blanket is loved more.

Tips

Pet parents need to be prepared to look after their pets who could develop medical problems. It’s hard to do that, they need to be able to provide constant care. It’s important that pets that require medical attention are in homes that can provide for them. With all these problems comes the stigma that they should just be put down. This I refuse to agree with. Tequila is happy, loved and well looked after dog. Yes, it gets scary, but he is just like any other dog. Dogs with medical problems just need a bit more attention to their health. Other than that they are great pals to have, they love and care like any other. So regardless of what issues your pet has been a responsible parent and love and care for them!

Laura and Bruno ()

Our Story

I am a 15-week old vizmaraner/weizsla, I live with my family in the UK, before this lovely lot I had a previous owner and even though they loved me very much they couldn’t give me what I needed, I need a lot of love and attention and hard work into getting me on the straight and narrow.

Training has been very successful I now know the commands sit, down, paw and my potty etiquette is a lot better but still needs some work, I need to learn how to stay but that will come in time. My favorite things are playing fetch and playing with the small human.

Tips

Lots of positivity and rewards when there is good behavior and completely ignore unwanted behavior.

To stop jumping up at our visitors, they are told to cross their arms and turn their backs, pup soon stops and when he is behaving, then he is rewarded with lots of attention and belly rubs.

Sarah and Nova (.of.asgard)

Our Story

Nova came to us Christmas 2017 when she was 10 months old. She was rescued from VOCAL Shelter in Ocala Florida. We were amazed by the shelter and how well they treat the animals and what detailed background check they did on us prior to seeing Nova.

Nova back then had the name "Brindy". While driving to the shelter we continued our research on the breed and came up with a list of dog names. Catahoula's are an American Breed so we researched American Names. We came up with a couple of names, one was "Nova" Meaning "Chases butterfly (Hopi)" in Native American.

By the time we made it to VOCAL and met "Brindy" we fell in love with her Independence and curiosity. And then it happened, a Butterfly flew into the enclosure and she went after it, and we know that Brindy had picked her new name.

Tips

Have Patience, Nova was a rescue who was surrendered during Hurricane Irma. We started our relationship with major separation anxiety and fear of EVERYTHING. It took us lots of research and continuous training to get where we are now. I encourage everyone to invest in two types of Training, one for the Handler and one for the dog. It will make communication with your dog stronger than ever.

DogLetsWalk Idea

Hey there!

A year and a half ago me and my girlfriend moved to another apartment and adopted a dog from a dog shelter in Kiev, Ukraine. We had no friends living nearby as well as no familiar dog owners to walk with and no knowledge of a good places to walk with Pomsky, our West-Siberian Laika.

Hence the idea to create DogLetsWalk was born. The idea of community that shares great spots to walk and ready to accept new friends in their companies. The community that will help you if your dog is lost and will help to find new families for abandoned dogs.

Become a part of our community, share your favorite place to walk with your dog at https://dogletswalk.com/!
