Its always exciting to make it to the four week mark and these kiddos haven’t disappointed with how quick they’ve been to take on all the changes I’ve thrown at them. It’s been really interesting seeing those shyer puppies come out of their shells and build that confidence alongside their more outgoing littermates. Eight Beags isn’t a walk in the park but they’re such funny little characters that it truly just gets more and more enjoyable from here on out 😊
So! As I always do and especially now that I’ve gotten to know them better, here are some personality recaps:
💚Corduroy
While he still holds that title of the smallest lad, he’s surely making up for it this week! This guy started off rather soft to be honest. I’d put him on new floors or areas and he would have full on meltdowns – crying for help. Given he was a puppy I had my eye on as a potential runner for a show prospect, I decided to push him a little. Without going over threshold and flooding him too much, he has been one puppy (along with Velour) who I have seen the most growth in confidence with. Hes now SO much more bold and eager to explore. He’s a puppy that definitely reminds me the power an engaged breeder can have in shaping a puppy at such young age to become that sound, confident dog they can be.
💙Suede
This guy is the polar opposite of his brother. He is Mr. First to everything. He’s bold, kinda cocky, and a bit of a trouble maker! He carries himself around with such confidence and I truly haven’t seen much spook the guy. He LOVES to engage with toys and his littermates and he’s always trying to find the next cooler thing to explore. He’s the only puppy that can hold his own against the Dancers (my older litter) and I find him even bullying them around (Which is fine, they need lol!). He reminds me a lot of Vanity’s bro Orbit whereas I find Corduroy to be much different in type. Him and his red-brother Argyle are neck in neck with who’s the bigger lad.
🤎 Argyle
This guy too is Mr. Confidence. Like Suede, he’s running all over my main floor checking things out. He was the first to come in all the way into the kitchen and drink from the big dog bowl. Surface changes don’t seem to phase this guy as my puppies have over 7-8 different surfaces to explore. From Astroturf, hardwood, carpet, vinyl, linoleum, blankets and more, he’s not phased by any of them. He’s not as bold with latching on to my pant leg and giving it a death shake as his brother, but he’s definitely that guy who follows you around seeking out play and snuggles. He also has some of the best shoulders I’ve made so far which is hard to tell in his stack photos. I’m curious as how this will impact his movement for good when he’s able to puppy gait. He has a BIG ol head which is easily double the size of his bi-colour sisters! I need to do a side by side photo for comparison.
💟 Georgette
She is still that nosey little neighbour as always. When I say hi in the morning shes the first to leap up and check me out. She loves to grab little cat toys and carry them around and is very proud of her findings as she struts past her littermates carrying it high in the air. She’s a puppy who I didn’t think was going to be in the running as a show prospect as her head shape leans more towards a phenotype that isn’t exact my taste. However, I’m find her improve each week and I’m curious to see what the next few weeks brings. She too is quite confident. Honestly, most of the puppies are, at least in my home, quite confident.
🩷Chiffon
If I had to pick my favourite looks wise, this week it would be Chiffon. While she’s likely leaning on too moderate for some other breeders, with having kept both Dancers which are substantial girls, there’s room in the FoxFire program for more elegance in a female to play with. She favours her mothers phenotype but has that feistiness that her Dad has which was something I hoped for this litter. Feeling shoulders, I’m not too keen on hers so I’m going to monitor that and see how they grow with age throughout these next few weeks. But, I would be lying if I said I didn’t have a favourite! She’s silly, adventurous and loves to pick on Argyle. Its funny that I catch those two playing together more than anyone. With this pairing in particular I knew I could potentially have struggles with eyes. Vanity’s eyes are lighter in colour and Bumper shows a white haw on one of his eyes. However, at this age I’m really quite happy with her peepers and shes an improvement on both parents there.
💛Chantilly
This little lady is FUNNY. She loves to throw these little tantrum fits where she barks and runs around in a circle. She absolutely LOVES the puppy activity area with dangling toys and loves to act especially tough at the hanging sloth shes seemed her nemesis. I was quite liking her in body on week 3 but found this week her to be angles everywhere. Her ears are bit higher set for my liking but I would not be surprised if she ends up being a 13” Her and Cashmere are basically the same size except Tilly has more length of body. But what both tiny-tots lack in size, they make up for in big ol personalities. I’d say Tilly is more hot and cold meaning when shes confident shes absolutely outrageous. But, if she gets in her head about a floor texture change, she has big feelings about that too.
💜Velour
This lady phenotype wise reminds me very much of her Momma. She falls into the same area of development that Corduroy went through but not quite as extreme as his once was. She was very very hard to stack up until Saturday so I really had no clue what she even looked like in body. She needed some gentle guidance and shaping with the things she found scary during the week 3-4 range but gosh she has TOTALLY had a turn around. Last night as I sat in ground zero (as I affectionally call this dog bed I have in my living room where the babies bully me lol) she ran up to me from the kitchen, grabbed my sleeve and shook it like the big vicious girl she is lol. She is the biggest of the ladies both in body and in head. But, I’m so happy for her that we have had such progress and shes not longer than shrieking scared puppy she was
💝Cashmere
Last but never least, still holding that spot as the overall smallest is this little gal! Our crew calls her “Boss Baby” because that’s absolutely what she is – the boss! She has no idea she’s the size of a hamster and bites and bosses everyone around like she rules the roost. The other day I even caught her going toe to toe with one of the Dancers before I realized I hadn’t shut the door on their pen and they were running amuck. She’s a little explorer and very much does her own thing. I’m just part of her adventures as she has things to DO! She’s the absolute easiest to spot with her funny little cow-like markings. Theres no mixing her up what-so ever. She has a phenotype I’ve never really bred before so shes a bit of a head scratcher to me.
Anywho! That is it for this week. If you made it this far- kudos to you! That’s a lot of babbling to get through. But I have a lot of homes that look forward to these little updates so I want to be sure to share these little milestones along the way. I had company up this past weekend for a breeding so I was unable to do cutest puppy of the week but that’s coming this weekend!
