Redemption Ranch - Rikki Lee Horsemanship Professional Performance Horse Training and Training Program | Madisonville, TN My horsemanship is based off of the horse.

My goal is to educate and empower the horse owner through better understanding their horse in an effective way that preserves the mind of the horse. The communication between horse to horse and herd dynamics play a huge role in how we as the riders / handlers ought to communicate to the horse. I’m a firm believer that we can overcome our pasts, because our pasts do not define who we are. They are

simply a reminder of how strong we truly are through Christ. From time to time I will take on a horse and document my work so you see the progress day by day. Ultimately you’ll see the horse in the show ring or adopted to a wonderful family! I am so honored to be able to do what God has given me so much fire to do. I hope to share words or wisdom, encouragement, and love for your horsemanship journey and life!

🔥 Too hot to trot | literally 🔥

We’re officially in the season of “too hot to trot!” , be sure you pay attention to the heat when training this time of year.

💦Coolig off; ensure you take your time cooling off, hose them off from the hooves and work your way up slowly. Be sure to sweat scrape!

👏🏽 Feel when they need breaks; don’t just push the whole hour -2 hours.

Put your horse first.

Be careful! This season is gonna be a doozy

He is your horse.
Period.

If you choose to sell because it’s not a good fit, that’s something you shouldn’t ashamed of.

If you choose to keep the horse and hire a trainer to help you fix problems, that’s something between you and your horse - something many don’t do and you should be proud you’re going to try.

If you wanna take a season slow to work on things vs going ba*** to the walls, do it. It’s your race , not theirs.

If you stop mid season and go a different route, then I wish nothing but the best, it’s between you and your horse- what’s best.

If you want to train your own, that’s between you and your horse. There should be no shame.

If you wish to put your senior horse down because they’re declining and your vet says it’s probably best, do it.

If you wish to try to get your senior back to health and keep fighting UNTIL the vet suggests the end, do it.( I am for my two).

That horse is yours.
Period.
Don’t ever be ashamed for the choice.
As long as it’s in the best interest of the horse. That’s what matters.

A note from pico the donkey :

Dont be an ass, instead be kind and loving

Let you kindness be as long and never ending as a donkey’s ears

Allow your loud voice to speak words of joy and kidness, like a brey- only on key

If you do kick, kick the nasty negative thoughts away

And never let your size determine your strength. Because deep down you’re as tall as that Clydesdale 😂🫶🏽

Sincerely,

An empty barn = happy horses!

It’s so important to keep horses outside as much as possible.

They’re creatures of movement and social at that.

Fact: grazing encourages saliva, and constantly eating helps with the acids in their stomachs. That’s why horses who are stalled more than turnout tend to crib (stress/ anxiety) or have ulcers due to going extensive amounts of time without food.

Our guys have been enjoying the cool days and nights since the storms a week ago!

God is good!

✨ F E E L ✨

“Hey, I’m uncomfortable.” Said no horse ever.
“I don’t trust that whatsoever…” said no horse ever.
“I don’t like YOU.” Said no horse ever.

They say all of this ^^ through physical language. Not vocal. And THAT takes you to ‘feel’ the difference between a career breaking moment vs a learning experience.

The amount of times I’ve had someone curse me a new one by saying “your horse is not for beginners” when they wanted a relaxing horse to ride, is far too many to count.
Some need jobs.
Some need more stimulation.

They’re very similar to kids- I believe.
Some learn slower, some learn faster.
Some need exposure to determine if it’s their career / goal.
Some have it naturally in them.

⭐️Trainers don’t make the horse⭐️
We just uncover what’s already there and share it with those who don’t know how to unveil it.

Sometimes folks get mad, and that’s okay.
Because at the end of the day it’s about the horse.
It’s about feel.
If you be quiet and feel with your horse , you’ll have your answers.

☀️ Don’t dim your light ‘cause of their shade ☀️

The biggest bullies are in this industry.
The biggest toxic mindsets are in it.

HOWEVER….
Some of THE MOST selfless people are in this industry.
Some of the most empowering people use their abilities with horses to inspire, to change lives, to touch hearts.

This entire world is full of negativity.
Someone will always sit in the sideline and tell you how to do things.
Someone will always smile to your face and then talk hate behind your back.
Someone will always try to bring you down.

You have to remember to focus on the horse.
Focus on Gods purpose for you.
Focus on the love and the light.
It is so easy to allow shade to dim your light.
Don’t give them the power.
Continue to do you, your mission, and what you’re called to do 👏

🌻 DARLIN 🌻

Miss darlin has her first debut in the stateline arena series in GA this past Tuesday.
We are riding in the buckle series, no longer seasoning! Very proud of her.

I rarely ever get nervous or anxious, but for some reason this round I was. I kept feeling the overwhelming feeling of every time we got started, something happened to prevent her from running; health issues, injury, etc.

But as she ran with no fear, I felt the subtle reminder of “walk by faith not by sight”, if this mare can have this much confidence- surely I can!

I love you miss darlin ❤️
Cheers to a whopping 30 seconds recorded hahhahaha she was in low 20’s last year. First actual run since winter, so I’m not complaining. It was clean, controlled, and technically savvy!

Glory to God!!

🏅 Testimony > Test 🏅

The 2024 season is approaching, and many have already started.
Some are having to restructure so many things last minute.
Others, don’t have the horse they thought they’d have this season for whatever the reason.

Wherever you’re at starting this season, remember why you started.
Remember where you used to be.

It’s easy to sit down and over analyze the issues at hand, the “why is this happening”…. Trust me. I know.

Every season I have a truck issue, a horse issue, or trailer preventing me from doing it. It’s so incredibly defeating to work so hard to only have something happen to prevent me from doing what I love.

The devil only comes to steal, kill, and destroy. The Lord comes to give life.

Keep your chin up, breath, and remember why you began the race. 🫶🏼

💲 CASH ME OUTSIDE💲

Testimony

Cash is our 25 year old registered Tennessee Walking Horse.

This ole' guy came to us several years ago. He was not cutting it as a trail , in fact he was extremely dangerous as a trail horse; bolting, no woah, rearing, etc. He was given to us in attempts to help fix him, his owners were nothing more than loving and wanted the best for him. So, we did! We simply put him in the arena, set up a pattern of cones and barrels and he took to it beautifully.

⚜Some horses are meant for much more than what their breed is "meant for".

Cash has educated SO many of our students. He has showed many that not only a TENNESSEE WALKER can be versatile and flexible, but also fast and quick on their feet through pure horsemanship.

⚜WE BELIEVE in educating our horses and educating our students to understand their horse's body FULLY; "you have to understand the tool you're using; the how to's- and the why's..."- Rikki Redemption Ranch - Rikki Lee Horsemanship

Cash ran in the NBHA 04 open and youth this past year. We could not be more proud of him. He is approaching retirement, and we are all so sad. But, so incredibly proud of the horse he is.
Cash, you're amazing. Truly, you are.

⚜NBHA 04, 2023⚜
We are missing a team member in this

WOW!! What a year. We had highs and lows. We had exciting times and sad times. We had moments of failure and moments of growth.

WE. ARE. A. TEAM.

Let's start with the horses:

CASH: Cash is our going on ✨ 25 YEAR OLD ✨ Reg. tennessee walker. Yes, a walker. He has taught many girls about horsemanship, and now has carried many into barrel racing. This "old man" has proven not only can SENIOR HORSES STILL THRIVE-- but also, TENNESSEE WALKERS have much more to offer.

MOE: Moe was given to us way back in the day, as a Reg. Paint horse; problematic horse. She has turned into such a gem. She is going on 18 years old. This gal is truly a one in a million horse.

🌵THE TEAM🌵

Emma: "Wisdom" That's the word I always think of when I think of her. She's so wise in horsemanship, I truly love talking horsemanship with her. And she encourages others on the team, as well. Emma has learned how to barrel race on our horse Cash this year. She has taken this horse from a slow easy going horse, and helped turn him into a fast and snapy horse. Emma has climbed that ladder, and is ready to compete next year. I love her devotion and willingness to "try"- she will go SO far in this industry.

Cadence: "Courage". Courage is the word I think of, because this young lady did it even though she was afraid. She is a walking example of Courage. Cadence, you've been with me for a while. This girl learned how to ride in program properly and had her first year under her belt this year. Sadly, she had to take some time off this year - but seeing this young girl push herself and prove to not only me, but to herself what she's capable of, I applaud her. I hope she can continue to ride with us!

Megan: "Perseverance" is the word I think of for this young lady. Though she started the season off on her own horse, yet she had to stop on her personal horse and ride one of ours (Moe) and yet she STILL gave it her all. She has grown so much in the last two months on Moe, I cannot wait to see how she grows on her own horse. This girl has no "give up".

Adley: "Grit" is the word I think of for this young 8 year old girl, because she legged up on cash and I ask "Can you lope him out?" She goes, "Sure." This young girl started off late in the season, but boy has she made an impact. She has brought so much joy to us! She is allowing Cash to give one more season with us, and for that I am grateful. She will go so far, I am already planning out the next "upgrade" horse for her. I am so happy for her to chase these dreams.

I cannot express how grateful I am to Jesus for allowing me to not only allow me to chase my own dreams, but to take these girls with me. :) I am so so so excited for next year.

Glory to God!!!

Now, we prepare for next season.

- God qualifies the unqualified -
“You can’t say Testimony without using ‘Test’ in the word”

Feat. “Darlin The Blind Horse “
My fully blind horse

“I can’t because of my past..”
“I am not worthy”
“I don’t stand a chance”
“They don’t like me”
“It has never worked out before”
“I’m not welcomed”
“What if I fail?”

Take a look in the Bible; you see God doesn’t use the priests or saints. He uses the most unqualified people to make the largest impacts. Jesus Himself, born in a stable, born to a virgin, not raised in a priests home… He walked in our shoes. Literally.

He was looked at as “too young” to speak in the temple.
He was mocked.
He was questioned for His gifts.

Moses. Joseph. Just to name some common names for those who don’t know, but their stories were not common.

If we look back at the most amazing monumental events in history, God used some of the most unqualified people.

Imagine what He can do with you and I.

So, saddle up.
Because you are qualified to do whatever it is He called you to do.

It doesn’t affect your life | so smile

I feel a few of you need to be aware of something serious.

💥 They don’t like you 💥

And it’s okay. 🙃

Check your bank account— did it affect your account? No.

Did you wake up this morning? Yea.

DO you still have food in your fridge? Yes.

Do you still have clothes? Yes.

You don’t need validation from others to live your life.

The horse industry is a dog eat dog world and it’s a damn shame.

Why can’t you cheer for someone’s success?
Why can’t you support your friend who’s thriving more than you?
Why can’t you be kind to them even though they may see things differently?

Why can’t we change the cycle and SUPPORT one another others success?

And on the other end— learn from that.
Support, don’t degrade.
Don’t be like them.

There’s nothing wrong with removing toxicity from your life to have a happier life. 🤗 whatever that looks like.

Remember, it doesn’t affect your life as much as it may feel it does.

Switch the gear.
Smile.
You cannot please everyone, so choose to live your happy life 💃🏻

💲CASH ME OUTSIDE 💲

This is Cash, he’s our 24 year old TENNESSEE WALKER that has come back to us just last year. Many of you remember him from back when we were in middle tn. He was adopted to one of our students, and she had gone to college and wanted to ensure he was safe. So we gladly took him on a free lease and he will stay with us living his DREAM while his girl is at college 😊
In a few years he will retire and go spend his days with his momma back in Nashville. I wish every story was this way!!

Cash was a horrible trail horse haha he was. He was running off, not listening, scattered brained. We put him in the arena and he was golden. Truly meant for performance.

His new girl, Emma, has helped him become the athlete that he once was!
This “old man” has really proven to many older horses can still kick it and that Tennessee walkers can be more than rackers or trail horses 🙏🏼

Thank you, Emma, for being such a patient student and putting in SO MUCH WORK to learn the pattern, and work with this tough old man. Not many can!

What you don’t feed will die.
What you feed will thrive.

If you don’t exercise the muscles, you will eventually lose it.

I’ve noticed a trend in people who send horses to trainers or have horses be trained by someone.

A trainer will put in the hard work and time, however if you as the owner only pull that horse out once a week or twice a week or once every three months to work, I guarantee you that Horse will not be the same as before.

It’s not fair to work with a personal trainer at the gym, and then go home for a month or so and not do anything you did with the trainer, and then you end up losing everything you worked so hard to get it and then put the blame on the personal trainer. That’s not how it works.

So remember, if you are getting your horse back from a program, or how to train or leave after working with your horse, you as the owner have to take the responsibility to continue the work and education of your horse otherwise your horse will lose everything. You cannot put the blame on the trainer after several months of not being there, it’s not right.

Just a simple suggestion for those sending their horses after a trainer this spring. Do your part as the owner, and learn how to continue the training at home.

🔶 The Mystery | Faith VS Knowing 🔶

"Why does God allow bad things to happen?"
"Why does God not let us know what's going to happen in our own life?"

You aren't supposed to know.
Life is a mystery. If you take away the mystery and everything was "Certain"- you wouldn't need faith. You wouldn't need God.

Faith functions best when you "don't know".
The more unstable your life becomes, the more you need to dig deep within yourself to see you aren't in control. That you need to breath, take a step back, and put your faith in God.

Mystery doesn't always mean 'good' either. It doesn't always mean to pursue something that may be toxic, or something that you're just gonna 'wing' because, hey - it's a mystery.

Everything about life is a mystery. You must discern the difference between
- what will make me grow spiritually, as a person in this walk called 'life'
- what will hold me back spiritually, as a person in this walk called 'life'.

Discernment comes from Jesus.
That's the foundation of right and wrong.

Have a blessed day!

‼️ LAYERS | Horses have layers ‼️

“Just because your horse has it established at the walk does not mean he will have it at the next gait.” - Rikki Lee

As a horsewoman who specializes in rescues, problematic, and horses with past trauma- I have witnessed a horse get over 1 problem and then all of a sudden have another. It can get frustrating at times, however I call it a layer.

When someone (human) is healing or perhaps growing (colts as a refrence) you tend to learn things about yourself that you may have not known even existed; difficulties communicating, trust issues, trusting but not all the way, controlling, fearful, etc. In order to get better at these things, you need to apply them in real world situations until it becomes a GOOD HABIT. Then you’ve suddenly changed a part of you for the better.

This young guy is in my program for a few things. Retraining and a solid foundation. He is such a gentleman at the walk now, moving off seat, leg, just a gem. But he is what I call a Card Puller (that’ll be another post) meaning he didn’t quiet trust the rider as his leader 100%. I’d say 80%.
He will test regularly UNTIL that day comes and it all clicks.

How does it click?
⚜️Consistency and Patience

A card puller can escalate to a dangerous situation if not corrected early. This guy broke my fender on my saddle in the first few rides with one of his cards he pulled, knowing I could work with the card he tossed- he kept trying and trying until realizing I have some skills to work with and he trusted me.

I’ve noticed in my years , Mustangs tend to be card pullers (BLM not born in domestic life. Though some are!) because of their history in the wild, the moment they hit the ground they have to move.

One day he chose to not like fly spray, truly choosing to not stand for it. I’ll admit, I was frustrated. Haha I was like “DUDE! You get this every . Single. Day.” His owner even saw in his eyes, I showed her, it was an expression of “no” not “AHHH!”
Know the difference between
❓I’m afraid
❗️absolutely not
Horses aren’t always afraid, they can say no.
Friday with the owners he was playing with the bottle at the end!

It’s my obligation to the horse to figure out as much as I can while he / she is here in order to give you as much education and knowledge to further your relationship with your horse .
That means layers.

And to work with owners who genuinely want to learn what I’m teaching their horse means everything to me! These owners are wanting to learn to better their horsemanship and their colts education.
It’s an absolute pleasure!

I hope this helps 🙏🏼

I notice many women acting like little girls.

This industry is challenging enough.
We really need women to step up and change the viscous cycle.

You walk together.

There’s a difference between being a dictator and a leader.

I explained this to a student this past week, that we want to show these horses that we can be not only be a friend but their leader as well.

A dictator demands.
A leader gives a choice.

A dictator commands things to be done.
A leader helps get the job done.

A dictator believes they’re right all the time.
A leader craves to learn for the sake of those who follow.

Horses need leadership.
99% of the horses that are aggressive or fearful are due to a lack of leadership in their life. Some are more dominant, yes. The boss mare / lead horse. But they need leadership in the human to horse relationship.

For a horse to see us do things with them shows trust. For us to walk beside them and not drag them behind truly makes a difference to them.

Don’t take their trust for granted.

🛢 REDEMPTION RANCH CHIX🛢

Redemption: the act of saving and redeeming

Our first time out was yesterday at the NBHA04.
I just had the girls do exhibitions, being their first time ever as well as the first time ever for miss Moe , our beautiful 16 yr old paint mare, and a comeback for our 24 yr old TWH gelding Cash.

Emma Snow riding CASH ME OUT SIDE

Cadence Malone riding C MOE MONEY

our team has faced so many trials. Some of the girls are STILL overcoming some trials with their horses.

What many don’t know is that 99% of our horses are all rescues and have been trained by these girls through my program.

Moe was never on the pattern before, and cadence has lessened to not only ride on Moe, but also how to train a horse to actually be on the pattern. She now knows the hard work it takes to even prepare a horse to go into an arena. I’m so incredibly proud of this young girls hard work and dedication. She conquers her fears.

Cash has been trained on the pattern before, in my program actually, many years ago. He’s come back to me since his owner went off to college. He wasn’t on the pattern for years. So when’s e got him back it was a matter of refreshing him. Though he was WAYYY too egoistic 😂 Emma has learned how to get a powerful forward horse to worn WITH you, not against. She’s spent the past several months getting cash back in shape- mentally and physically, and bringing this old man’s passion back to life. Showing people senior horses STILL have a lot to offer!!! I am so so proud of this young lady and her love for this. She goes in with a will.

I cannot wait to get the rest of the team out here - and to other shows. Every single girl has a mission and with their rescues, they will be runnning for a purpose.

Giving these horses a chance at redemption.

❗️If you aren’t being tested you’re doing something wrong

IF you’ve worked with me you’ve heard me say this before “that’s a good thing they’re testing you!”, because one does not test another unless they’re even considering joining up / trusting your leadership or walking with you.

🔆Faith : if you’re trust in God is never tested, you’re probably doing semthing wrong. The devil can only attempt to hold back someone who’s succeeding in moving forward through God’s grace.

🐎Horse: horses in a herd or band will either witness their lead horse be tested through nature or life choices, or they’ll test eachother to see who falls in the line.
They do this to us.

My motto is “they will move your feet, just a they do to one another. A boss horse will move another’s feet- hence we move theirs.”

Testing is a good thing.
It’s how you pass the test is what truly counts.…
Patience. Faith. Trust.

Ft. One of my favorite fillies of all time to work with, miss Maze
