FUR’s Story
We began our journey in Animal Rescue 12/26/15, just after a tornado majorly affected our very own neighborhood. We began rescuing our neighbors pets and we quickly found out how many homeless animals were living in our neighborhood. Having been affected by a disaster, we developed empathy for others who were also going thru a tragic experience that also lost their pets. So, from that day forward, we were committed to helping displaced and homeless animals. We later went on to rescue during Hurricanes Harvey, Maria, Florence, Micheal, Dorian, Sally, Laura, and Delta. We also rescued animals during many major California Wildfires.
Over the last couple of years, we wanted to use the knowledge we have developed to get more involved in rescuing animals here locally. Our primary goal is always to reunite found animals with their families and so we hold them all for 14 days and report them to our local Animal Control. We also post them on many lost/found pet groups on FB as well as on PetHarbor. We address all medical issues immediately and as soon as the stray hold time is up, we will vet and sterilize the homeless animals before finding them a wonderful forever home. We always need help with these animals. The medical bills, cost to feed them, and care for them is extraordinary. We are trying to help end homelessness and abuse by educating our community, as well as other communities, about the local resources available and the importance of spay/neuter and micro-chipping their pets.
With YOUR help, we hope to get all of the lost pets home to their families and end animal homelessness. Texas has had the highest euthanasia rates for at least a decade. Sometimes we feel defeated and overwhelmed but then we focus on just the dog or cat we have in front of us. We make sure this dog or cat has a better, happier, healthier life than it did yesterday. That’s the best we can do and we hope that you will be that special person for a homeless dog or cat today!!
