Unless we raise $2 million, we will have no choice but to close our Tennessee location and relocate the animals who have found safety and healing here. Happy Birthday to our sweet, loving Madonna! 🐮🎉

Madonna's life began with a heartbreaking start. Born in the dairy industry, she was taken away from her mom and suffered severe injuries. Emaciated and terrified, Madonna and her sister, Holy Cow, were brought to The Gentle Barn at just 9 weeks old, where they found safety, love, and began healing from their traumatic past.

Holy Cow eventually became matriarch of our herd, always there for her family. When she passed away, Madonna honored her sister by stepping into that role, watching over her family with love and care. Her resilient energy radiates through our California barnyard.

Today, Madonna is surrounded by family, friends, and so much love, and that’s exactly how she deserves to celebrate her special day 💚🎂

The Gentle Barn has always been about second chances, for animals and for people. But now we’re facing a challenge we cannot overcome alone. Unless we raise critical funds in the next 3 weeks, we will have no choice but to close The Gentle Barn Tennessee.

So many animals call this location home, like Henry, our senior pig who needs consistent, specialized care, and cannot be moved. For him and all of our TN rescued animals, this sanctuary is their safe haven. It’s also where people in the community come to heal, connect, and find hope.

We’re celebrating 26 years at The Gentle Barn! 🎉 It’s been a journey filled with healing, community, and so much love.

In 1999, founder Ellie Laks started The Gentle Barn in her backyard, and soon after, cofounder Jay L Weiner joined her to grow the dream. Together, they’ve rescued thousands of animals—cows, horses, donkeys, pigs, goats, sheep, turkeys, chickens, llamas, emus, peacocks, and more. With the help of our hardworking staff, incredible volunteers, and you—our inspiring community of animal lovers all around the world—we’ve been able to give them safety, care, and a second chance at life. In turn, our rescued animals have helped humans heal and taught people to live with more compassion.

From captivity to sanctuary, this we’re celebrating Tina’s journey 🐐❤️

One year ago, Tina was kept in a facility that tested cosmetics on animals. Now, her days are filled with sunshine, friendships, and plenty of barnyard adventures! She’s curious, playful, and living the life she always deserved.

Tina reminds us why veganism matters. It’s not just about what we eat, but also the products we buy and the choices we make every day. When we choose vegan, we help create a world where animals are loved, happy, and free from harm, just like Tina 💕

Great news! We’ve found a perfect match for Prophet! 🏡💕

After searching for a place that checked all the right boxes, we finally found Prophet an amazing new home! Prophet will be joining a loving family of goats and sheep who carry the same diseases as he does, making it safe for them to all live together. We're so excited for him to start this next chapter of his life!

Sun Chlorella USA helps provide both, with their nourishing algae superfood and our beautiful Sun Chlorella Healing Center. Most of our rescued cows in California actually live at our Healing Center location, where they roam spacious pastures, run and play with friends, and continue their healing journey 🌿

Two years ago, we received a call from a worried couple about their senior horse with a severe back injury who was being bullied by other horses. Our founders Ellie Laks and Jay L Weiner drove all the way from California to Colorado to bring this gentle senior horse home to The Gentle Barn.

Since arriving at our sanctuary, Marley’s life has completely changed. He’s surrounded by a loving family, enjoys nourishing food, rolling around in soft bedding, and especially loves visitors who brighten his day with treats and pets!

With the therapies and treatments Marley’s body needed to heal, he’s rebuilt his strength and spirit, and now spends his days running around in the sunshine, and sharing quiet moments with his partner, Bonnie. Marley will never feel alone again 🥹
