Mom and Baby Cow, Rescued and Thriving in Sanctuary
Look at how far mama and baby have come 🥹 Two years ago, former roping cow Irma and her baby George arrived at The Gentle Barn!
At first, Irma was nervous, unsure whether she could trust us and afraid we might take her baby away. But at our Sun Chlorella USA Healing Center, she realized they were finally safe, and no one would ever try to take her baby again. Irma began to nurse, groom, and play with baby George, showing just how loving and protective of a mother she was. When it was time to join the rest of the herd, they ran out together and have stayed close ever since.
Now, they’re thriving with their bigger family—safe, happy, and still side by side. Irma has been able to watch her baby grow up, and she continues to love George with her entire heart ❤️ Their bond is unbreakable, and their story reminds us every day why keeping families together matters so much.
Snack Time for a Donkey
How could anyone say no to this cute face? 🥹🫏 Rosie never misses snack time, so naturally, we had to treat her to some of her favorites—carrots, kiwis, and grapes! (and of course, she happily shared with the others!) 🥕🍇💚

New Chicken Rescues
New Arrivals 💕
Meet Harriet, Zephyr, Sicaru, Rhody, Katie, Daniela, and Phoebe, our newest chicken sisters at The Gentle Barn California!
Rescued in October, these seven beautiful hens came from a loving home and were cherished companions to the man who raised them. When he passed, his final wish was for them to have a safe, happy life—and we were honored to welcome them.
After bringing them home and beginning a careful quarantine period, we immediately noticed something was wrong with one of the girls, Phoebe, and took her to our avian expert. It turned out she needed emergency surgery to remove 12 necrotic eggs. Thankfully, she pulled through, made a full recovery, and is now back with her sisters—soaking up the sun, taking dust baths, and making lots of new friends 💚
Caring for hens like these is delicate and often costly, as many will need lifesaving surgeries like Phoebe's. But with your support, we can give them the peaceful, joyful lives they deserve. Yin & Yang's Rescue Anniversary
Two years ago, Yin and Yang kept escaping from a life where they were only valued for a job—and wouldn’t have been kept much longer once it was done. So they made their way to our front gate again and again, like they knew exactly where they belonged. And they were right 🐷
Since joining us at The Gentle Barn Tennessee, these two sisters have stayed side by side—spending their days lounging, snacking, and soaking in the love they always deserved!
Happy rescue anniversary, Yin and Yang! You knew what you needed—and you found it ❤️
Pi Day for Rescued Animals
Cute rescued animals + pie = endless entertainment! 🥧✨
#PiDay is usually about numbers, but we made it a little more delicious—and a lot more adorable—at The Gentle Barn! The animals had an absolute blast with their special vegan treats, and honestly, so did we! (filming them enjoying pie might just be the highlight of our week 😂)
Cows were never meant to be so big.
Through genetic engineering, they’ve been made to grow unnaturally large, unnaturally fast—just to be slaughtered at a young age. But when they’re given the chance to live longer, the toll on their bodies becomes clear: mobility issues, health problems, and shortened lifespans.
At The Gentle Barn, every cow we rescue receives the care they need to thrive—great veterinary support, acupuncture, chiropractic and massage therapy, CBD, and energy healing. This care helps our gentle giants keep walking, stay comfortable, and experience the peaceful lives all animals deserve.
When we go plant based and choose foods like Beyond Meat burgers, we get the protein we need and still enjoy familiar flavors, without harming any animals.
Every compassionate choice helps create a kinder world—one where cows can live long, happy lives surrounded by care, comfort, and love 💚
Music Therapy for Cows
Music has a way of connecting us, healing us, and creating moments of peace—and it’s no different for the rescued animals at The Gentle Barn. Music is an important part of how we help our animals heal and feel safe in sanctuary for the rest of their lives.
Thank you to Maya Nicole Music 🤍
Remembering Bolt
It’s with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved goat, Bolt. He showed us that trauma doesn’t define a life—it’s how we continue to live, heal, and find meaning after it that truly matters.
After barely surviving a mountain lion attack, Bolt’s family helped him heal physically, but he continued to struggle emotionally. Wanting to give him the best chance to recover, they reached out to The Gentle Barn, where he could find the care and safety he needed.
With time, patience, and so much love from our team, volunteers, and visitors, Bolt found peace. He loved basking in the sun, closing his eyes to meditate, and fully embracing the quiet moments. But his gentlest side shined when he took in new goat, Tina, under his wing, protecting and befriending her when she first arrived. With his calm and steady presence, Bolt reminded us that sometimes the most meaningful thing we can do is pause, breathe, and simply be.
Bolt had been doing great—eating, exploring, and enjoying the sunshine—until he suddenly became lethargic and struggled to breathe. We called our vet immediately, and an ultrasound revealed a large mass in his lungs, along with pneumonia. Holding him close, we let Bolt know how loved he was, and guided him gently across the rainbow bridge.
Bolt’s journey was one of resilience, healing, and rediscovering joy. We are so grateful to have been part of his story, and he will stay forever in our hearts. Thank you for loving him with us ❤️🩹
