At The Gentle Barn, our mission goes beyond rescuing animals. Our goal is to help animals find solace in our sanctuary and give them a place for their personalities to blossom. Every single animal has their own distinct identity, vibrant spirit, deep feelings, and a story to share with the world. They aren’t just part of a herd or a flock, they’re cherished members of our family 💕 We strive to create an environment where each and every soul feels loved, valued, and safe.
Friendship knows no boundaries, and one of our favorite barnyard duos—Story and May—proves it every day 🐮🐷
Story, a former beef cow, overcame years of hardship to find solace at The Gentle Barn. May, once scared and defensive, has transformed into a joyful and carefree soul since being rescued. Now, these two inseparable friends spend their days together in sanctuary, sharing deep conversations, and strolling through the barnyard 🥰
The bond they share is a beautiful reminder that love and trust create the strongest connections. Story and May’s journey is a heartwarming testament to second chances and the magic of a safe, nurturing environment. Their friendship is an inspiration for us all ❤️
Sometimes we need a reminder to stop, take a moment, and breathe.
Today, we’re taking a moment to hug Chico. What more could we really need? ❤️
Pearl has come so far these past couple of years 🥰
After being found abandoned in an orchard with tattered ears and wounds on her body, it was clear she had been through so much trauma before finding safety at The Gentle Barn.
With lots of care, love, and time, Pearl thrived! She now loves belly rubs, yummy treats, chatting with her barnyard friends, and most of all, spending time with her piggy family. Pearl will never be alone again ❤️
Starting the year off with the cutest throwback to when our boys saw snow for the first time 🥹 Just wait for the snow zoomies! ❄️🤍
As we look back on another wonderful year at The Gentle Barn, we want to express our deepest gratitude to all of our supporters who have made a world of difference in the lives of our rescued animals. YOU have made it possible for us to provide essential care, love, and a second chance at life for so many wonderful creatures!
It's your last chance in 2024 to help us care for nearly 200 rescued animals and share our mission with the world by donating here, through Venmo @TheGentleBarn or at GentleBarn.org ❤️
Here's to a brighter, more gentle future – thank you all for standing beside us on this incredible journey!
Animals love their families, just like we do! Menorah and her adorable babies are a heartwarming reminder that love knows no boundaries.
Once destined for a Christmas dinner table, Menorah’s fate took a beautiful turn when she unexpectedly gave birth. Seeing her as a mother instead of a meal, her previous family made the compassionate choice to reach out, allowing us to bring them all home to the safety of The Gentle Barn.
This marked a first for us—rescuing a family of pigs. Unsure if the piglets would grow up wanting to stay together or prefer their own space, we had homes lined up just in case. But Menorah and her babies taught us a profound lesson: families belong together.
Under Menorah’s care, her piglets thrived. She nursed them, disciplined them, and nurtured them with unwavering love and strength. As they grew, it became increasingly clear that they didn’t just want to stay together; they needed to. Five years later, and they’re all just as close as the day we brought them home.
Menorah and her kids will spend their entire lives together as a family at The Gentle Barn, holding the hope that one day, when we all awaken to love and gentleness, all piggy families will thrive and stay intact, living free, safe, and loved ❤️
St Louis Six cows new life in TN
Running through the streets after escaping a slaughterhouse, six courageous cows captured the hearts of an entire community, who rallied together, demanded their release, and reached out to The Gentle Barn for help. With just a short window to act, we were able to secure their freedom and bring them to safety.
Now living at The Gentle Barn Tennessee, the St. Louis Six have embraced their new lives with joy and have formed deep bonds with their animal family. However, we want to provide them with even more space to roam, explore, exercise, and graze in peace. Recent storms and flooding have caused significant damage to the fencing around our property, limiting their access to the larger horse pasture with its open fields and wooded areas.
To ensure their safety and freedom, we’re calling on our community to help us rebuild and repair the fences. With your support, the St. Louis Six can enjoy the life they fought so hard to have—a life filled with wide-open spaces, safety, and love.
Thanks to a generous $20,000 matching gift, every dollar you give will be doubled! Donate today to help the St. Louis Six and the rest of our Gentle Barn family via Venmo @TheGentleBarn or at the link here: https://bit.ly/3VloV3E
Together, we can make their sanctuary even more special! 💚
We are saddened to share that our beloved cow Roy has passed. Gentle and kind, Roy was a towering presence, both in size and in spirit, touching everyone he met with his warmth and wisdom.
Roy was one of four calves rescued during an undercover investigation in Texas. Born on a dairy farm, he was taken from his mother at birth and destined to be discarded because he was male. Instead, thanks to the dedication of our co-founder Jay L Weiner, Roy was given a second chance at life and brought to safety at The Gentle Barn after a 20-hour journey. He arrived extremely sick, but after months of around-the-clock care, he and his brothers made a full recovery.
Roy lived most of his life at The Gentle Barn’s Sun Chlorella USA healing center, playing with his brothers, enjoying the spacious pasture, and forming deep bonds with the other cows. In his senior years, as he began facing mobility challenges, Roy and his brother Mercy were moved to our main location to ensure he had soft bedding, closer access to food and water, and holistic therapies like acupuncture, massage, and chiropractic care.
Roy adored being part of Cow Hug Therapy sessions, especially with children, standing patiently as they brushed his coat and hugged him. He cherished his morning and bedtime cookies and always knew how greatly he was loved.
Recently, Roy’s health began to decline, and despite all of our efforts, he peacefully passed away in his sleep, surrounded by his entire bovine family. At 13 years old, Roy defied the odds and lived an extraordinary life. His gentle soul, unwavering kindness, and majestic presence touched us all deeply.
Roy reminded us of the incredible bonds cows share and the profound wisdom they have to offer. His life serves as a reminder of the choices we can make to create a kinder world for animals like him.
Through this difficult time, we will continue to give his brother Mercy all the love and care he needs, knowing they shared a lifetime of memories together. Th
Animals aren’t gifts, they’re lifelong commitments. While surprise pet videos may be heartwarming, The Gentle Barn's founder, Ellie Laks, sheds light on the potential heartache they can bring. Instead, let's explore alternate ways to celebrate our love for animals and create lasting memories such as volunteering at shelters, donating to organizations, sponsoring an animal, and letting the adopter make the decision for themselves. Let's cherish animals as lifelong companions rather than temporary gifts 💕
Senior Rescue Pig Needs Upgraded Home
Meet Henry, one of our seniors at The Gentle Barn Tennessee, who adores spending time in his peaceful woodsy retreat. As Henry ages, it’s becoming a challenge for him to travel back and forth to the main barn for meals and bedtime, so he prefers to stay in his part-time structure. This winter, we're upgrading his favorite spot into a full-time, cozy oasis, ensuring he remains warm, safe, and comfortable.
Your donations make a real impact on Henry's life and the lives of our other senior animals. Your support and generosity will help us build heated barns and shelters closer to their pastures, minimizing stress while providing easy access to warmth and care. It will also help us create stable paths and provide extra cozy bedding, offering our aging friends the security and comfort they deserve 💚
Together, we can ensure that our animals thrive during the winter season! You can directly help our seniors like Henry by donating now via Venmo @TheGentleBarn or at the link here: https://bit.ly/3VloV3E
