The fascinating and touching story of Lampo the train dog is well known. Lampo, a mixed-breed puppy with the appearance of a German Shepherd, became famous in Italy in the 1950s for his extraordinary ability to travel alone by train and always return home.

Lampo lived at the Campiglia Marittima train station, where he was adopted by a station attendant. One day the puppy simply jumped on a train and, to everyone's surprise, not only did he travel alone, but he also knew exactly when and where to get off to return!

He made many trips to nearby towns and always found his way back to the station, becoming very popular with passengers and railway workers.

What was most amazing was that Lampo seemed to understand the train schedules perfectly and never took the wrong train. It is even said that he helped the passengers find their way around.

Today, Lampo is honored with a statue at Campiglia Marittima train station that honors his incredible desire to travel and his intelligence. His story has touched the hearts of many generations and remains a symbol of the special bond between humans and animals.

The RMS Titanic not only carried human passengers, but also had twelve dogs on board. Among them were various breeds, including a French Bulldog, a Pekingese, a Fox Terrier, two Pomeranians and a Great Dane. These dogs were a symbol of the wealth and status of some of the passengers, but their fate on this fateful journey was as tragic as that of the ship.

When the Titanic sank, the chaos on board led to difficult decisions. Of the twelve dogs, only three survived: one Pekingese and two Pomeranians. These smaller breeds were easier to hide and were probably smuggled onto the lifeboats, giving them a rare chance of survival.

One of the tragic stories of that night is that of Elizabeth Isham, a 50-year-old passenger whose devotion to her Great Dane was exemplary. When the Titanic sank, Isham was told that her Great Dane was too big to be placed on a lifeboat. Faced with this heartbreaking decision, she decided to stay with her dog instead of leaving him behind.

Days after the sinking of the Titanic, Elizabeth Isham's body was found, still clinging to her beloved Great Dane.
