Another beautiful transformation of helping the body unwind during a 90 minute Lazaris Nerve Release session, coupled with BTMM pillar one walking.

This one blew me away with the expansion and lift through the thoracic sling after working on the front half of this sweet gelding.

In the before photo on top, this horse’s thoracic sling could not activate due to tension in the fascia. His chest had collapsed, so his neck and lower back were being used for stabilizing his entire body. Unfortunately this pattern is very common due to many factors including riding style and history, environment, past injuries or pathologies and hoof angles.

In the after picture on the bottom, the fascia restrictions had been softened, allowing his front legs to find stability and “push” off the ground. His chest muscles can activate and help lift his thoracic sling, softening the tension that was being placed on his neck and lower lumbar regions. In the spine photo comparison, you can see the massive change and lift through this area.

The results? Helping a horse who had a negative angle to his spine find lift towards a neutral spine angle, which in turn brought comfort through his entire body. This can be seen in the relaxing and unwinding of his body between the photos, as well as a change in his biomechanics that followed the session. Changes in the system can happen so quickly when given the right tools.

Beautiful changes in the pectoral muscles in one 90 minute, full body Lazaris nerve release session and BTMM pillar one work. Within this session the horse relaxed through the brachiocephalic region of his neck, started unwinding through the pectorals and muscles surrounding the shoulders, dramatically widened his stance and found added comfort both while standing and in motion.

Tension in muscling and fascia in this area very much can cause tripping, tight rope walking, head shaking, an over engaged brachiocephalic, chronic ulcers, a deflated thoracic sling, shortened movement, refusing jumps and unfortunately so much more.

This was a great step in the right direction for this sweet gelding, but he will require some additional work in helping to balance the postural asymmetries in the limbs.

When working with the parasympathetic nervous system, pure magic happens. Because the rider is communicating within this relaxed state, the horses grow to be happier, healthier, retain the information better, are more sound and they want to do their job.

10 minutes separated the top and bottom picture. The only change was leading the horse into a place where they could feel safe leaving flight mode. Tension patterns melt away, fascia relaxes, space is created around the vertebrae and nerves and healthier postural choices start to be made. Helping horses find relaxation again in their every day lives is one of the greatest gifts we can give them.

This weekend I got the opportunity to catch up with a friend where she mentioned her young horse is taking a longer time than expected. We engaged in a conversation about how some move faster while some move at what seems like snails pace. We both got a chuckle at life with horses and how humbling they can be, how they require a large ability to take a joke and laugh about it, and course correct when needed.

Progress is not linear, full of steps forward and back, especially with young horses. From what I see frequently outside of my program, are owners feeling discouraged that their horse isn’t doing XYZ quick enough, or high enough, or fast enough, especially in an industry that focuses and praises the pushing of youngsters.

Here is a picture of my reminder that it takes as long as it takes, even if he’s at an age that most think he should be out showing. His reactions to typical training methods has been quite unique, one that has made me scratch my head multiple times. But instead of shutting that down and just “pushing through”, I chose to listen to his voice and adapt the training to what best suits him and a happy, healthy future… even if it takes longer.

So cheers to the ones that make you scratch your head, pump the brakes, keep your sense of humor, and the ones that remind you that it takes as long as it takes, and that’s perfectly OK. 🩵

Rainy morning hacks -

So important for the proper development of horse and rider for any discipline, so long as it embodies a relaxed nervous system, correct biomechanics and activation through the thoracic sling.

This! In a world (especially in the horse world), where perfection is often what is being sought after, it’s hard to want to try new ways for fear of struggling, or worse, feeling failure.

Learning happens when changes need to be made, and change can absolutely be uncomfortable. Learning how to do something new takes time and often times feels quite messy. Learning how to be good at that something takes a lot of time, energy and patience to see through the mess and come out the other side.

Those that can stay motivated through failure, often times reach great success at things they didn’t even know were possible.

Keep trying, keep learning, because you never know what amazing journey you’re headed on.

Bioscans are back up and running since returning from our training trip in Aiken, SC! 👏👏

No idea what a bioscan is? No sweat, a lot of people don’t…

A bioscan is an FDA class 2 medical device combining acupuncture, biofeedback and homeopathy. This computerized test analyzes the balance of the internal systems on a cellular level (MUCH more sensitive than blood tests), by recording the reaction of the body against tens of thousands of stressors they encounter on a daily basis. These stressors include but are not limited to diet, allergens, viruses, environmental factors, anatomical structures and even pain locations. With the feedback from the bioscan, we can create a suggested protocol to bring the body back into balance, thus helping your equine partner feel their best.

Obviously I am not a vet, I cannot diagnosis or give medical advice. However what I do provide is a rather extensive list of what the body scans as in and not in balance.

Want more information on how this device can help you and your horse? Either check out my site at katecolemanequestrian.com or drop me an email at [email protected]

50 sessions over 94 days, twenty or so minutes per session for this transformation. No riding, just a couple of simple walking exercises to relax the horse’s nervous system, unwind tension and compensatory patterns, and develop correct muscles to start this TB mare on her sporthorse journey with a rider.

She is just one of dozens I have put my hands on and she is one of thousands and thousands of horses to benefit from the Balance Through Movement Method program.

Who can it help?
Horses of any age and breed? Absolutely.
Horses of any discipline? No problem.
Rehabbing from EPM, kissing spine, injuries, decreased performance, birth trauma? They thrive in this program and get a second chance.
Development for young horses? The best start for both mind and body.

Development takes time, patience and attention to detail. There is no bandaid. There is no quick fix. There typically isn’t longevity to the horse’s sporthorse career as under development leads to imbalanced loading of limbs, incorrect biomechanics, compensatory patterns, tension and pain.
