Hi all.

It's been a couple of weeks. Hard weeks. Sometimes I try to think of what to say, and I just don't know.

But I do know that I have to say "thank you" to all of you. Thank you to all of those who commented or reacted here and offered your support and your sympathies. Thank you to all of those who did so in various Saluki and sighthound rescue groups.

Facebook sent me a "congrats" award that over 1,000 people responded to our goodbye post. That's mindblowing. Roo was such a big, happy, goofy, pretty dog and I knew that lots of people followed us, but I never ever could have imagined him becoming a part of the lives of so many people.

So thank you all for bringing a Goofaluki into your lives for 10 years. I hope that he brought you all some joy, as he did for us.

Thank you,
Goofaluki Dad

I wish I had something better to tell all of the Goofaluki fans out there, but the muscle-wasting problem has just kept getting worse. We hope that his vets can find a way to help but we are also forced to be realistic: the causes of this are hard or even impossible to fight and it would involve putting a very old dog through a lot.

So please keep Roo in your thoughts and prayers.

Thank you

10 years ago today a Goofaluki came into our lives. We created this page to explain to people what a Goofaluki is. It seems a bit complicated, perhaps. He’s half Coonhound, half Saluki and all goofy. He even looks like Disney’s Goofy - and a walking stick bug too. In fact the kids in our neighborhood call him the dog with stick legs.

But most simply and importantly Roo has been our friend. This year has been hard for him, as Lyme disease has seemed to finally and suddenly make him seem old. We weren’t even sure we’d make it to today with him, but here we are.

Well keep doing our best to keep him happy, to make sure that every day is worth it for him. Until then and even after, we will thank you Roo, our Goofaluki, for being our friend.

Update on the Goofaluki: we brought him in for a battery of tests yesterday and we - even the vet - were worried that they’d find cancer somewhere. We were all relieved that the worst that they found was a chronic kidney infection.

He’s still a lot thinner than even just 4 weeks ago but at least he’s recovering. You can see just how many drugs and supplements he’s on each day!

Well keep doing our best for him.

Update on the Goofaluki: he’s been struggling lately, his back legs aren’t as strong as they once were. You can see in this pic that his facial muscles have shrunken to the point where he looks gaunt, almost skeletal. He’s also at times somewhat disoriented.

We’re doing the best we can with him. He’s now on steroids due to low blood counts and doing a bit better with that. We hope to find out more soon to see what if anything we can do, but we have to keep in mind that he’s really old.

Hi Goofaluki fans. I realize that it’s been a while since we posted anything here. I guess we kind of got caught up in Instagram. Sorry about that.

Roo is still here. He’s old. Really old. We don’t even know how old, but he’s at least 13 or 14, maybe older. He does his best these days. Some days are hard.

He loves his family. He loves his adventures on his hikes. He’s a good boy.

So here he is snoozing with Goofaluki Dad. He’s happy. And we will just keep doing our best with and for him.

Love, The Goofaluki.
