This will be a great workshop to hone your skills on handling your own flock!

Are you comfortable and knowledgeable in handling your flock for shearing day, hoof trimming, vet visits, etc…?

Join us! Sheep Handling 101
Sunday April 13, 2025
1:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Parry Bay Sheep Farm
4335 Lindholm Rd Victoria BC

We will be covering as many aspects of sheep handling as we can fit into the day. These include: Moving a flock, penning a flock, flipping, halter use, hoof trimming, drenching, injection sites, fitting a ram harness...and much more. If there is something specific that you'd like to see, or need some more work on, please let us know prior to the event so that we can incorporate it.

These topics are a necessity for any successful shepherd, and ones that many of us could use a refresher on.

Hands on participation and practice is highly encouraged, so please dress accordingly. However, to respect biosecurity on the host farm, as well as your own, please wear clothes and boots that are well cleaned to avoid the spread of any infectious diseases.

This event is being offered by IISBA free of charge, and a light snack and refreshments will be provided. Please RSVP to:
[email protected]
so that we can finalize numbers.

Feel free to share this info to any contacts, or sheep groups that you may be a part of. We are welcoming all participants, regardless of IISBA membership status.

I hope to see many of you there!

Garrett Jolicoeur
IISBA President

If you aren’t already a member of the Inter Island Sheep Breeders Association It’s not too late! Annual membership is only $10 per farm, and gives you access to exciting workshops like this upcoming one in November.

UPCOMING WORKSHOP!
Saturday November 18, 2023

This workshop is being offered free of charge to members who have paid their annual membership dues of $10. It’s not too late for those still interested in joining, to purchase their annual membership to attend this, and all future events!

This workshop will be led by Dr. Helen Schwantje, and will cover all aspects of humane slaughter and necropsy of an ill or ailing animal. Maybe not the most glamorous part of farming, but a very important tool to help us as farmers to be more self-sufficient in our operations.

Parry Bay sheep farm is graciously hosting this event, and in addition to Dr. Helen’s demonstration, John and Lorraine Buchanan will offer some hands-on sheep grading, to help identify those animals that might need some more attention.

Please RSVP to [email protected] by Wednesday November 15

Hello all! The Inter-Island Sheep Breeders Association (IISBA) is trying to get up and running again. They are an officially registered association with the government, but have been inactive in the past few years. Right now they are trying to get people to commit to being members and pay the suggested $20/farm membership and get involved with expanding and running the association. I have volunteered to be the president of this association, because I believe this is a great opportunity for sheep breeders to connect and share our passion.

Meeting tomorrow (saturday) at 1:00 on zoom. See link attached. I hope you see you all there!
