Stranger danger is real.
Parents, can you use this story as an opportunity to speak with your teenagers about, for lack of a better term, “stranger danger”.
Earlier this week officers were dispatched to suspicious circumstance near Menchies Frozen Yogurt where the caller reported the following: An adult male described as having a neck tattoo wearing a baseball cap sideways, approached two random female juveniles who were by themselves (not Sherwood residents). He asked the girls if they wanted to pet his puppy which was inside his vehicle. The girls saw the puppy and said yes. A few minutes later he offered to buy them frozen yogurt, to which they replied yes. After buying them frozen yogurt, he asked if they wanted to get in his car and go for a drive. They, said yes. Thankfully, a concerned citizen observed what was going on and jumped in. She walked over, told the girls they were not going with him and told the male to leave. Needless to say he quickly left the area and officers were unable to locate him.
While Sherwood remains a safe city with relatively low violent crime, we cannot cause that to let our guard down. Something like this can take place in any community. If you see or hear something that seems suspicious, something just doesn’t sit right, please give us a call.
We are super thankful for having community members like the one who stepped in to protect those girls.
