Animal Care Associates Scranton, PA Protecting the Defenseless, Helping the Injured, Caring for the Neglected
All volunteer organization) We are not always able to accept new intakes.

Our organization is comprised entirely of volunteers with different expertise and experience but who share a common goal, to protect, care for and help as many animals as we can. We are in need volunteers for cleaning and helping care for the animals at our adoption center at PetSmart in Dickson City, PA. Volunteers are also needed to help with various other events or periodic transport. If you wo

uld like to volunteer please contact us at [email protected]. ACA provides a safe haven for all of our animals while they await adoption. Our no-kill policy allows each animal as much time as they need to find the right home or it gives them a permanent home with us if all placement efforts fail. The foster home environment allows us to observe each animal's behavior around other animals and different people so that we can help prospective adopters choose a pet that will fit their house or apartment, their family and their lifestyle. Because many of our animals were abandoned or are strays, we spend as much time as we can with each one so that they become accustomed to being pet, held and being around people again. We also provide any needed medical care and treatment including vaccinations, spaying/neutering, proper nutrition, grooming and surgery if necessary. Given all the above information, please take special note that we are a small, all volunteer organization. While we would LOVE nothing more than to help every animal we are contacted about but, we must commit first to those who are already under our care. Thank you for your understanding. It’s been quite the week! Lots going on as usual. Sickness going around and trying to stay on task & keep things update is a struggle. We hope you’re all doing well.

Tonight we are VERY happy to share with you that Bartholomew did GREAT at
his check up yesterday. No fluid with a positive all around check up! He’s gained weight and has been acting his normal self but it’s always nice to hear those words of confidence at a check up to know we are headed in the right direction. We are officially past the half way mark with Bart taking his medication - today being day 45 of 84. He’s a good boy and takes his pill easily hiding in a pile of churu.

We are thrilled for him and are looking forward to the day when Bart gets the all clear to find his forever home along with his pal Captain Hook. Thank you to all of Bart’s supporters & please those good thoughts coming!

Hi, I'm Ash! My days are filled with playfulness and energy. I love a good tumble and chase, my independent spirit shining through as I explore every nook and cranny. But don't let my brave facade fool you, I'm as sweet as they come. I'll nuzzle into your hand for a pet, purring loudly in contentment. I'm friendly once I trust too, always ready to make new friends, be they human or feline. I've got a lot of love to give and I'm looking for someone to share it with. I like to spend time with my human and know where they are. I enjoy catnip toys and would be fine on my own or with another active feline playmate to wrestle with. After that it would be nice to snuggle up with my human to rest for the next round. Adopt me, and together we'll make every day an adventure.

For those following…
These kiddos have names now. They’re still settling into their foster home but are enjoying the heat, food, and comfort of home life. We’re still a bit unsure how friendly all of them may be but we are making slow progress with a few. They received all their intake medical care and are getting the nutrition they all needed.

Welcome to rescue life!

Happy Birthday to our very special cat daddy, Curt. He’s one of men behind the scenes who makes so many things happen for the ACA kitties.

You name it… he does all that is needed in cat rescue life: Transport to vet appointments, helping with feeding and daily care in foster, unpacking and storing supplies, finding space we don’t have to help with new intakes, garbage duty, event assistance, medical assistant, foster snuggler & behavior assessor, treat giver, & overall supporter.

When I tell him about a cat situation his response is.. how are we going to help? When we have to monitor a difficult medical situation he’s there to help on those sleepless nights. When there are cats in ceilings on rescue missions, he’s there with whatever we need to help get them to safety. He helps with the difficult feline personalities we encounter that many times respond well to him before myself. When I say we have a cat rescue on train tracks tonight in the dark during winter, he tells me to layer up and makes sure we have proper flashlights and gear for whatever may come our way.

When I met Curt, I had 2 cats. We
adopted Smokey together and while he loved them, my cats did not like Smokey. We then adopted Pita from ACA as a friend for our Smokey. That was the beginning of our journey with ACA & rescue becoming our world. Our home is now the sanctuary for any lifetime cats ACA has committed to.

Please help me show him how much he’s loved and appreciated. He has in some way been a part of just about every rescue effort since we became a part of ACA about 15 years ago.

🎉 Happy Birthday cat daddy! 🎂

Happy Caturday furriends! Since i’m up early today it’s paperwork, records, mail, blah blah blah catch up day. Although I can only do what I already have within my reach at the moment because I have a cat in my lap & one on either side snuggled up holding me down at the moment. I guess I better limit my coffee intake until they wake up.

What’s on your agenda today??

Hello there, I'm Buddy! I'm a sweet, friendly, cuddly, mellow, playful, and independent young feline. I love my wand toys and snuggle time, but also enjoy my me-time. I was playing hide-and-seek with my human, and let's just say, I'm too good at hiding. I found myself having a blast being rescued by a nice family! But they realized I needed a family who could match my hide-and-seek skills. I met some friendly felines in foster and a canine too. I didn’t seem to mind them. If you're up for fun games, cozy snuggles, and a pal who respects your space, I'm your guy!

Hello, I'm Cosmo! Life here in foster is pretty good, but I'm ready for a family of my own. I'm a young guy with a big heart, full of love to give. I'm friendly, so I'll always greet you with a purr and a head bump. I'm cuddly, so I'm the perfect companion for cozy movie nights. I'm playful, so I'll keep you entertained with my antics. I'm brave, so I'll be your protector from all things small and squeaky. I love wand toys and scratchers, they keep me active and happy. Greenies are my favorite treat, and I'll do anything for one. And belly rubs? Oh, I'll roll over for those any day! They tell me I’m FIV+ but it doesn’t seem to affect me. I haven’t lived with other cats in my prior home but I don’t mind the friendly ones I encountered in my foster home. I also was curious about the canine who seemed to want to be my pal. Adopt me, and you'll have a loving, playful, and brave companion who will fill your home with joy and laughter.

Bartholomew update for all those following the FIP journey!

This little bu**er amazes us every day. After all he’s been through arriving into rescue with eyes pasted shut and being nursed back to heath through a tough upper respiratory battle. Then as he began to grow up developing the need for entropian eye corrective procedure. Recovering from that and then having fluid drained from his chest with FIP diagnosis was the last thing we’d be expecting for him. Now fast forward, today is day 40 of 84 of his FIP medication. At first diagnosis it seems so far away. Now we’re almost half way there!
🫶
Bartholomew goes for a recheck visit next week where he will most likely have bloodwork and x-rays done again to see how the medication is effecting him. Please continue to keep him in your thoughts. The second half of his medication was reordered earlier this week and it arrived already. We’re ready to keep fighting with him.
Bart’s FIP medication alone was $700 for this fight. For FIP, this truly isn’t that bad considering it’s fairly new however this experience certainly hit our wallet for medical expenses hard.

We have thousands of 💵 into Bartholomew with all the care he has needed. We wouldn’t have it any other way. He has shown us he loves and appreciates everything being done for him. We know he will be our FIP survivor!

If anyone would like to contribute towards medical expenses or send him some goodies for support please visit our links! Bart takes his pills with churu and he’s getting BFF canned gravy supplement food with higher calories to recuperate him.

I got up this morning and heard the wind whipping outside. I’m grateful to have a fenced yard to let the dogs out for their business while I stay cozy inside. All I could think of as I stood there waiting for them to return is about the recent 4 that were rescued and how there are so many more out there. There is only so much we can do.

These 4 were lucky to have a willing foster. The thought was that there were 3 but we ended up with a 4th & the foster never batted an eye when I asked about taking the “plus one”.

As of yesterday they all received their initial vetting and got to settle in for the night in their safe and cozy foster home. They will need some decompression time and were starving. They need to get some good nutrition in them and see what having a good home is like. We’ll be stopping to see our furriends at Stately Pet Supply today for some nom refills to ensure their bellies stay full. We are always appreciative of any store credits there that help us with our supply expenses.

We are grateful to all who have answered our request for help. They truly needed and deserve it and we are happy that you all feel that way too. You help restore the faith when we are disappointed in other irresponsible humans. We have 2 boys and 2 girls, names will be shared once we have them.

Unfortunately we are back off to urgent care today for Reggie who is not feeling well and needs to be seen. Wish us luck there that this is not anything too serious going on with him.

It’s been a very trying week here. I know many of you probably had off work but I did not. Looking forward to the weekend and being able to go back to sleep for a bit to catch up on much needed rest.

03/01/2025

Well here we are on day 2 of 2025. We ended 2024 on a high note but it didn’t last very long. Today there was a plea of help for 3 kittens that were clearly dumped on train tracks. Really people… when is this nonsense going to end? When are we going to do better as
humans? Rescues CANNOT continue as we are. We’re drowning. The need for help is much more than the amount of assistance coming in.

We had one foster open for a situation such as this and now they are full as well. Not just full but, exploding as it’s not that simple to ‘just add 4 more cats’ into a household. They all need medical care and quarantine coming in from being exposed to who knows what while outside.

My husband and I arrived at the location (after working all day and knowing we already have house fulls to care for ourselves) with the help of fellow rescuer Patty & her husband to capture or trap those in need. We were able to coax 2 into carriers and the other 2 were trapped.

They’re ALL going to the vet tomorrow for full initial vet care. We need assistance to cover these unexpected expenses. Each cat will receive vaccines, test for FIV/FELV, spay/neuter, deworm/flea/earmite treat, & anything else they may need.

Two of the 4 are very scared so we’re letting them settle in for the night. We’re already getting purrs from the other 2 who were scanned and do not have chips… not shocking.

When will things get better? What will it take? We are stretched but we were not going to leave these kitties out there knowing the cold snap is coming back. There were flurries on the way home. They didn’t ask for this life. They deserve better. I said my piece… I hope it reaches someone who needs to hear it. Now to finish taking care of everyone else here and get to bed.

🫶PLEASE Help us help them!🫶

We received some pawesome updates from a few of our last adoptions of the year this past week. It’s amazing for us all to see everyone settle into their forever homes no matter what kind of background they came from. Updates like these make every effort, every penny, and all the time invested into rehabilitation and placement of these lives worth it!

We can’t do it without YOU! Please be sure to interact, volunteer, & contribute how you’re able. Lives like these depend on us. Atlanta, Boise, Kal, & Carter wouldn’t have the amazing lives they do without all of us working together to give them that opportunity.

01/01/2025

Atlanta & Boise are grateful to have a fresh start together. They are safe and loved because of fosters, volunteers, & supporters like YOU. We all make forever happen together for so many kitties. Here’s hoping we can continue to do this for many more next year! Atlanta & Boise are just 2 examples of the lives we impacted for good in 2024.

Join us to volunteer, foster, or consider contributing if you’re able toward medical expenses or supplies.
