I travelled via the Capital Lusaka all the way down to Livingstone, quickly popped in the magnificent Victoria Falls and awaiting exciting days. Presenting tomorrow about the need of integral rehabilitation in veterinary medicine (based on human medicine protocols) especially in combination with (orthopedic) surgery.

The presidential attention to vets in Zambia is simply amazing!!

Thank you Hakainde Hichilema 🧡

Excited to be part of the annual meeting of the Veterinary Association in Zambia (VAZ) 🇿🇲

What's your final exam routine?

I try to stick to the below schedule; if more time is needed (which means I didn't plan it correctly or I got disturbed by unforeseen things), I'll take extra time in the morning by starting earlier. In emergencies, I even start at 02:00.

I'm really trying to have a healthy study period with still space for other activities and obligations.

🌄
I get up between 4:30-5:00
Do all my household chores and get ready for the day

📖
Start studying at 06:00 up to 12:00
Based on my fitness level, concentration and feeling of that day, I alternate study with mini-breaks to rest, power nap, yoga, make / drink coffee & chocolate etc.

🏊‍♂️
12:00 swimming
Going for a refreshing and low-risk injury activity to clear my mind and body

🍱
12:45
Lunch with something light but fresh and powerful. Like salad with nuts and fresh juice

🤓
13:15 study again
Allow for a few short breaks in between

📺
17:00 end of the study day, mostly watching videos of the content I studied that day to revise

🍽️
18:00 rounding off the day
Do household chores, relax, make dinner, have dinner, do other tasks that need to be done

😴
20:30 bed time

And what did you do this Wednesday night?

Blood was drawn from two hyena puppies to determine their s*x. ♂️♀️

On this photo you can see how odd the external s*x organs are.

Both male and female have these pseudopen*ses and are pseudohermaphrodites. They are undistinguishable on external appearance and the only way to determine their s*x is through a blood test.

This puppy is a female!♀️

Females give birth through this pseudopen*s.😳
When male and female mate they need to "dock' their speudopen*ses to transfer s***m.

What an accomplishment. An example for many African countries to follow.

New Zealand places a complete BAN against live animal exports!

The NSPCA celebrates the ban of live animal exports in New Zealand which will take effect from April 2023. This comes two years after a live export disaster that claimed the lives of 6000 cattle and 41 crew members after the vessel left New Zealand.

Early this morning, New Zealand’s animal welfare amendment bill was signed into law. The Bill states that, “ A person must not apply for, and the Director-General must not issue, an animal welfare export certificate for the export of cattle, deer, goats, or sheep by ship. “ on or after 30 April 2023.

This is a MASSIVE victory in the world of animal welfare. Earlier this year, more than 15,000 sheep drowned after a live export ship sank in Sudan, and in 2020 a capsize killed 14,000 sheep. In 2021, 3,000 cattle were stranded at sea for three months, leaving many dead, dying, starving or extremely dehydrated. On board live export vessels, live animals are at sea for extended periods of time and it is an arduous journey as they are subjected to severe heat stress, overcrowding, living in an accumulation of their own excrements, and other welfare concerns.

More and more countries around the world, including Australia, are recognising the extreme cruelty and suffering that animals are subjected to on board live export vessels, and their Governments are putting an end to that suffering.

It is time for South Africa to follow suit! It is time for the South African Government to acknowledge the suffering our sheep are subjected to on board live export vessels. The NSPCA continues to fight to end the live export of sheep from South Africa.

“We will never give up and we cherish the vision of one day being able to say that live export in South Africa is banned!” - Marcelle Meredith, Executive Director.
