When we first set out on this amazing experience of rescuing small animals, we hit a hurdle and ended up rescuing a very special horse. Levante the Andelusian. She needed a home, dentistry, and love. Which she received and paid back in abundance during her 6 years with us. Levante has made us laugh, cry, and grow. She has taught us so much and has also been an unjudgemental ear at times. She has mothered other horses, including our Bilbo and Jones. She helped Duke, our close friends' horse, get over the sudden loss of his mother, whom he had never been apart from. She has lived her best life here with us in her paddock, retired and happy, chasing her friends and greeting Donna daily.
Sadly we have to say goodbye to her tomorrow morning. Levante has sadly now got to the point where the only kind thing left to do is let her sleep eternally.
The hard part with any animal is saying goodbye. Knowing when to say goodbye is never easy. They are always more than just a pet. All animals become part of you. Part of the family and part of life. This is true of all animals. From the smallest to the biggest.
Levante is going to be missed, and we will always remember the impact she has had on us.
Tomorrow morning, please do us a kindness and give your pets a huge cuddle and let them know you love them. Donna will be doing this with Levante one last time.

We will be open as usual, but please bear with us tomorrow.

I am writing this on behalf of Donna as she is too upset to do this herself.

They come with a cage and just need collecting from Welton..

Message from Donna and Rob

Some of you already know this but some don't. So here it is. Donna's Animal rescue was established by us both. Last October we separated and are now living separately. The rescue is still running and we are both working to keep it going at the same level and high standards.

Who are we?

Donna’s Animal Rescue is a small not for profit organisation based in Bardney Lincolnshire, set up in 2018. As a family we have always rescued animals rather than seek pups or baby animals. We decided to set up to rescue and re-home small animals locally. This started with a baby hedgehog we rescued and hand reared. He is now back in the wild and often returns home to see us.

Since the beginning we have now rescued and re-homed dozens of animals including, Guinea Pigs, Rabbits and Ferrets. We even took in a beautiful horse called Levante who at 15 hands is small in our eyes so we let her in.

We ultimately want to expand and grow and eventually have a place to run this little organisation away from home, so we can do a lot more. All of this is money dependant so until this improves we cant. When we do eventually succeed in this we want to open the doors to people with additional needs and mental health issues, so that we can offer a safe and non pressure environment for people to come volunteer or just sit and watch the animals. Having an autistic son ourselves and knowing a lot of other people with needs and mental health issues has really inspired us to keep going.

All the money we raise goes directly back into feeding and caring for the animals.
