The adventures of Cooper 😍

Cooper is a handsome 10 yr old, 15 lb JRT that is looking for a loving home. He is being fostered in Harford County MD for meetings.

Cooper has fit in so well at Humphrey House. He gets along great with everyone he meets. It has been such a pleasure to be a part of his journey into his retirement from breeding.

Cooper is neutered, microchipped, current on vaccines & recently had a dental. Send us a message for more information. Thank you

Welcome Snow to Humphrey House ❄️

Snow 35 as the shelter called her, was brought to bcas as a part of a hoarding case. She is a 15 lb JRT mix that the shelter estimated to be 13 yrs old. Her energy level says otherwise πŸ˜‚

Snow was so happy to leave the shelter that she immediately broke into the zoomies. She is such a sweet happy girl.

Although Snow is fully vetted, she has an appointment on Monday to address the large tumor on her neck. I have confidence that Homeward Bound will be able to remove her tumor successfully.

Snow is being fostered in Harford county for meetings. Stay tuned for updates on this precious girl.

Update: Surgery went well. He was neutered & had a dental with multiple extractions. He is now resting comfortably πŸ’—

I hope everyone had a peaceful holiday πŸŽ„

We are back to business as usual today.

Cooper is currently at our vet preparing for surgery. The plan is for him to be neutered & hopefully have a dental. Anesthesia is always risky but for a senior with a heart murmur, there's always additional risks. I know he is in good hands at Homeward Bound Vet.

Cooper is the calmest, sweetest JRT that I have ever met. Please keep him in your thoughts & prayers today. Stay tuned for updates as he recovers from surgery & begins looking for his retirement home. Thank you πŸ’—

Welcome Cooper to Humphrey House πŸ’—

Cooper is a sweet 10 yr old JRT that weighs about 15 lbs.

Cooper was used as a breeding machine on an Amish farm. Unfortunately, when their breeders are no longer of use, they are disposed of 😞 No retirement. No comfortable beds. No gratitude for all the money they earned. They are disposed of like trash 😭

Cooper is one of the lucky ones. He made it out alive. We will make sure he has the retirement home that he deserves.

Cooper is the sweetest little boy. He received his vaccines & initial vet exam a few days ago. The vet did note a minor heart murmur but he is in overall good shape.

Cooper has a vet appointment on Friday. Our vet will take preop bloodwork to make sure he is healthy enough for neuter surgery. He will most likely also need a dental with a few extractions. He will be available for adoption after his procedures. (Surgery went well. He was neutered & had a dental with several extractions. He is recovering well πŸ’—)

Stay tuned for updates on this handsome fellow. Humphrey House is located in Harford County for meetings. Send us a message for more information. Thank you

Welcome Chickie to Humphrey House.

Chickie is a sweet mixed breed female. My best guess is a tibetan spaniel & Pomeranian πŸ€” She has short legs & a thick body with pom hair 🀷 She is 7 yrs old & weighs 20 lbs.

Chickie was originally part of an 84 dog hoarding case taken in by barcs shelter several months ago. Chickie was referred to as Cake #83. These poor dogs were living in filthy cages stacked on top of each other as the owners ran an illegal breeding operation from the basement of their rowhome 😞

Chickie had been adopted through the shelter but recently surrendered as the child in the home was allergic.

Chickie has been a sweet girl that longs for a home of her own (without 83 other dogs) She has done well with cats and most other dogs. She has shown some resource guarding around other dogs, so she should be given her own space to take toys & high value treats to without worrying about another dog taking them. (like a crate or a room to herself) Of course she would also love to be an only pet & have all of the attention to herself.

Chickie is spayed, microchipped & current on vaccines. Her 4dx tests were all negative πŸŽ‰

Humphrey House is located in Abingdon Md for meetings. Send us a message to meet this sweet girl. Thank you!

Today, Paulie received a Christmas miracle πŸŽ‰
He was reunited with a family member that he knows & loves.

Paulie was *grandmas* dog since he was a young pup. Grandma now lives with a family member that was suppose to take care of her & her precious Paulie. Unfortunately, Paulie was not getting the care he needed.

Baltimore city animal control arrived to investigate Paulies condition. Instead of fighting it and facing fines, Paulie was surrendered to animal control, then taken to barcs shelter.

Paulie is 14 yrs old, emaciated, severely matted & was covered in fleas. Barcs eventually reached out for rescue assistance .

That's where we stepped in & welcomed Paulie to Humphrey House πŸ€—

The shelter paperwork listed that Paulie was not chipped. They most likely could not find it due to his severe matting. To my surprise, I scanned him & found a microchip.

First, I contacted 24 Pet Watch to make sure he wasn't listed as lost or stolen. He wasn't. The chip company gave me the registered owners information.

I contacted barcs to see if the owners name matched the person that surrendered him. Way to often people find a stray pet & keep them as their own 😞 Unfortunately, barcs could not verify since he was surrendered to animal control, not barcs.

So I took a leap of faith & called the registered owner. She was shocked to learn that grandmas sweet boy was surrendered and in poor health. Although she sent funds regularly for his food & care, she had not physically seen him in quite some time. She immediately made plans to come get him, driving down today from out of state.

After I interrogated her.... Well, asked a lot of questions πŸ˜‰ I felt confident that the registered owner had Paulies best interest at heart. She will do everything to get grandmas pup healthy again so he can live out his life in comfort. I made it clear that Paulie is to never return to the family member that neglected him. I also emphasized that Paulie is welcome back at Humphrey House if he is ever in need again.

Paulie was so happy to see that a family member that he knows & loves came back for him πŸ’— Have a Very Merry Christmas sweet Paulie πŸŽ„

Lessons learned...
Scan for a chip, even for owner surrenders.

Keep chip info up to date.

Check on your elders! Even when you think someone is caring for them.

If you need help, ASK! Don't let your family or pets suffer.

Stay tuned for our newest addition πŸ€— A sweet senior JRT that was rescued from an Amish puppy mill.

Brownie is still searching for his forever home.

Are you looking for that one & only furry companion? Do you like little dogs with a big attitude? Then Brownie is your guy!

Brownie is estimated to be 6 yrs old and weighs 8 lbs. He is current on vaccines & microchipped. He has a severe heart murmur, so it is not safe for him to be neutered. Or to have anesthesia for any other reason. He just needs a calm household to live out his life being spoiled.

Brownie is very dominant and wants to be in charge. He needs an owner that will show him that they are the boss.... Not him. Although he lives with several other dogs currently, he would do best as an only dog. He is quite energetic and loves to run & play.

Send us a message to arrange a meeting. Brownie is being fostered at Humphrey House in Abingdon Maryland. Thank you!

Update: he has been reunited with family πŸ’—

Good morning everyone!

Paulie here checking in πŸ€—

I'm starting to feel safe. I have a warm bed and plenty of yummy food πŸ˜‹ I like to follow my foster mom around and see what goodies she has for me next.

We saw the dogtor the other day. She gave me a pill for my upset tummy. They poked me with a needle to steal some of my blood. I didn't mind. Those nasty fleas had already stolen so much of it. The nice lady explained that my blood should grow back and they will recheck it when I go back.

I want to thank everyone that has donated towards my care. I received some yummy food & treats in the mail. I also saw foster mom giving the dogtor something for my visit. It was a small plastic card and it didn't look very yummy. She would have probably preferred a milkbone. Anyways, my foster mom has included a photo of the paper from the vet for those that have helped us.

After I see the vet again on the 20th, I should be ready for my FOREVER home πŸ’— I'm so excited πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰ So please keep checking in so you can help me find my new family. Thank you!

Introducing Mickey 😍 ADOPTED

Mickey is a super sweet 8 yr old, 7 lb mini poodle. Mickey loves everyone! Dogs, cats, ducks, kids, monkeys, you name it.

Mickey isn't new to Humphrey House. He arrived one year ago and has been a companion for my elderly mother. He would keep her company, mostly laying by her side, while I took care of daily chores.

Unfortunately, my mother had a stroke a few months ago. She is now bedridden & on hospice care. Due to a constant flow of nurses & aides that come for her daily care, I have had to keep Mickey away from her area of the house. I actually had one aide that refused to come inside because she was terrified of dogs. Yes, even a friendly small senior dog without any teeth 😞

For the last few months, Mickey is lost in the chaos of multiple dogs at Humphrey House. He craves attention & would love to be someones heart-dog. Mickey is a good combination that enjoys cuddle time but also loves to run outside. He thoroughly enjoys running with the other dogs in the yard. He prefers the attention of a human but would also love a furry companion. He even enjoyed visiting my mother in the hospital. He would be an amazing therapy dog, visiting hospitals & nursing homes πŸ€—

Mickey is neutered, chipped & current on vaccines. He does not have any teeth, so he requires a soft diet. The good news is that he never needs a dental 😁 Although he enjoys being outdoors, he often wears belly bands & uses potty pads indoors. HE WILL REQUIRE REGULAR GROOMING!

Humphrey House is located in Abingdon Md for meetings. Send me a message if you can give him all of the attention he deserves πŸ’—

Update: Paulie has been reunited with a family member πŸ€—

Welcome Paulie to Humphrey House 😍

Paulie is a very sweet 14 yr old, 12 lb miniature schnauzer mix that was recently surrendered to an overcrowded shelter in Baltimore. I don't know the owners circumstances but it's clear they could not provide Paulie with the proper care he needed.

Paulie is severely emaciated, his hair was extremely matted, his skin is raw from a flea infestation, he has limited vision from cataracts, arthritis, a heart murmur and severe dental disease with most teeth being worn down to the gums. Oh, and lets not forget about his broken tail 😭 Despite his condition, he just wants love & attention.

Paulie has been shaved down so we can work on his itchy skin. Next, we need to help him gain some weight. Once he is healthy enough, we hope he can have dental surgery.

We are blessed to have had so many generous donations on . THANK YOU to those that have donated & shared πŸ’œ We raised a total of 989 yesterday! πŸŽ‰

If you were not able to donate yesterday, there's still several ways to help us with poor Paulie. He will need several small meals throughout the day so he can gain weight and become strong enough for his dental procedure. We have several options of wet food & soft treats on our wishlists for the seniors in our care.

Vinny update: His orthopedic surgery went well. They fixed his luxating patella, a torn acl & cruciate repair. Poor guy must have been in so much pain.

He is now back at Humphrey House recovering & being spoiled. He is on several meds & strict bed rest for the next 2 weeks. After his stitches are removed in 2 weeks, he will begin therapy with short leash walks.

THANK YOU again for all of the donations & prayers. Although we are still a little short (about 600) I am beyond grateful that we raised as much as we did in such a short amount of time.

I have added the itemized bill for his surgery. I highly recommend the surgical team at MVSS. They have been amazing πŸ’—

Adopted
Please keep Vinny in your thoughts & prayers as he undergoes orthopedic surgery at the Maryland Veterinary Surgical Services in Catonsville today. He is pretty nervous & anxious for this to be over.

Vinny has double luxating patella. His right knee is a grade 4 out of 4 with a torn ligament. His left knee is a grade 3. We could have had surgery today on both knees but it would have been double the cost. We haven't raised the full 3750 for todays surgery, so there was no way we could afford 7500 😞

I can't say enough about how wonderful the team is at MVSS. So friendly & caring. They took the time to explain everything in detail & didn't rush. They have 1 set price that includes everything. Surgery, evaluation, medications, follow up visits & X-rays. A few other places would have been less in the beginning, but after all the extras, it would not have saved any money in the long run. They even offered to follow up for free once Vinny is adopted πŸ€—

As of now, the rescue has 2450. That leaves us 1300 short for todays surgery. I put the full amount on my personal credit card until the rest of the funds are raised.

If you already made a donation, THANK YOU!
If you were waiting to see how much we still need, now is the time to donate πŸ’—

Vinny has a long road to recovery after surgery. 12 weeks of leash walks & crate rest. Afterwards, he can finally walk pain-free. Our hope is that by having his right leg repaired, that should spare more damage to his left leg. He may eventually need surgery on his other knee, but that's an issue for another day.

As always, THANK YOU for your support πŸ’—
