I figured I should come by and explain when we have been so quiet for so long. This is our home. Back in September 2022, hurricane Ian hit FL. When that happened, my house flooded. It took it all. Almost $100k in damage. Insurance left us homeless multiple times, played games, and left us with half of our items replaced, and again currently with no where to live. It is a long, drawn-out story, but the short version is that we are in separate places. Me and the kids are in Wisconsin, and John and our oldest are in Florida. Sadly, it also means I can't currently grow. Stay tuned as we are hoping to be through this by the end of the year. In the meantime, I will post beauty around me and share some travels. Don't quit on us yet. Big things are coming, just a little slower than anticipated while we ride out this storm, literally and proverbially. ❤️

Since we are on hiatus until we fix our home and nursery, here is a beautiful hiking spot in Wisconsin that I was able to visit this week. Reconnecting with nature and feeding my soul.

Baby pink oyster mushrooms! I'll be honest, I bought a kit to try this before we actually start looking into growing them on our own. This kit came from . I really am excited to see all the little babies! This makes me really want to work on this on our own! (THESE ARE REGULAR EVERYDAY MUSHROOMS NOT PSYCHADELLIC)

Part of sustainability is keeping things from landfills. While we don't use plastic standardly, we will take donations, pick up from those who want to toss them, or hit up our local Lowe's/Home Depot for give aways or cheap $1 pots. This was one such day. 😊

This is not my plant. I saw this beauty growing at the kayak launch and fell in love. A little bit of research indicated that this is a Passiflora vitifolia/passion flower and is indiginous to tropical environments. I think it is so cool and unique, and it may need to be added to my collection! What do you think? Should we grow this climbinh vine?

Something small you can do to be more sustainable is hit up the thrift shop (or your neighbors) for old mugs ☕️ or pots for your plants. Need drainage? Simple fix, use a perlite/peet mix and drill a small hole in the bottom of your mug. Just make sure to wear the proper eye protection and use the proper drill and bit!

We talk a lot about small changes, and we always try to find companies that do just that. Today, it was something as small as the bowl they provide their ice cream in. Mayday uses plant fiber bowls to serve their ice cream. They are compostable and bio based, making them a great substitute to paper or plastic bowls that do nothing but damage. Small things add up friends!

Look at my little friend with the beautiful little flower. This little bug is from the Mammillaria family and grows little buds/branches to create a complex series of larger cacti. If his little arm falls off, you can plant it in the dirt and produce roots. Super easy to care for and super sweet. This one is newer to our collection, so I am still learning everything about it.

Check out this gorgeous Hyacinth! 🤩 These perrenials are absolutely gorgeous and smell devine. They are so fun to watch grow as well!

It's prime season to see the ADORABLE sea 🐄! These adorable gentle giants are threatened. They are commonly hit by boats 🥺 as they look a lot like rocks. In real life, they are slow-moving, calm, gentle creatures. They come into the power plant to stay warm and go out to the bay to eat. Be cautious boating and watch out for our big friends.

Meet camper kitty Ghost!😺 Since we've been living in our camper we have been in a few different places. This guy was hanging out at one of them. His story is sad. Someone dumped him out of their RV and left him behind. He is super friendly, like watching TV, and pets. We are vetting him today to see if he can join our brood. 🐈🐈‍⬛️

So due to our location, we were evacuated on Tuesday. A chunk of our family are currently up in NC, hanging out and enjoying the weather. The other is at home taking care of what they can and riding it out. Be safe out there FL friends and family. We are and we will be ok!

Don't forget to stop and smell the flowers. Life moves so fast that sometimes I forget to slow down and enjoy the beauty around me. This beautiful hibiscus stopped me for a few minutes.
