With a heavy heart we like to share a sad news with you all.
Our Senapoti passes away in a accident.

Just one night before he was taking selfie with me, playing with everyone, annoying Bhutku.
Senapoti was rescued by my brother from gulshan lake side area. He was very small and was very playfull from the day one.
Senapoti,, we will miss you a lot.
সেনাপতি, তুমি ভাল থেকো ওপারে। তোমাকে আমরা ভুলব না। মনে দাগ কেটে চলে গেলে তুমি। এতো দুষ্টু আর ভালো বাচ্চাটা কিভাবে নাই হয়ে হয়ে গেল ভাবতেই কষ্ট হচ্ছে। উজ্জ্বল সবচেয়ে বেশি কষ্টপাচ্ছে, আমি জানি ও সবচেয়ে বেশি মিস করবে ওকে। উজ্জলের সাথে ওর বন্ডিংটা অনেক বেশি ছিল। সব থেকে বেশি ওরেই জালাইতো, ওর সাথেই খেলতো।

Subject: Travel with pet dog from Dhaka to Canada accompanied

Hi everyone!

I recently travelled to Toronto from Dhaka with my dog, Maya. Since then, a lot of people have texted me asking about the procedure so I am making this comprehensive post in case any of you need the info.

I booked my flight via Qatar Airways (directly from their office). My itinerary was Dhaka to Doha to Montreal to Toronto. My Montréal to Toronto flight was via Air Canada. My flight was 3 months later and I utilised this time to buy a crate and train her to get used to it.

I belive all airlines have the same crate size policy. I have attached the photo of the size requirement in this post. Crate training was also very important because your pet will face a lot of distress during the flight. Mine was a total of 28 hours (32 in reality after delays). I bought her crate from Gulshan 2 DCC market. I don't remember the name of the specific shop but it was in the back near the bathrooms.

30 days before my flight, I filled out a pet carriage request form (available here: https://www.qatarairways.com/en/baggage/animals.html).

Within the next week, I got an email from Qatar Airways. They asked me to take approval from Air Canada first. I reached out to Air Canada via their twitter messages (it was the only way!). They asked basic questions about her weight, crate dimensions etc and then emailed me the confirmation. I forwarded their confirmation to Qatar and they sent me the approval within the week.

During this time, I got her documents ready. These are required:

- Vaccination records
- Microchip certificate (not mandatory but good to have)
- Health Clearance certificate
- NOC from department of Livestock services
- Export permit from CCIE (https://olm.ccie.gov.bd/)
- Quarantine Clearance from animal quarantine wing at HSIA

I went to the central veterinary hospital (https://maps.app.goo.gl/NVcGWNhnoXAYxPzJA) to collect her health clearance. They had a ready format but do check the name of the diseases and make sure all spellings are accurate.

With that, I went to Department of Livestock Services (https://www.dls.gov.bd/). They also have a ready format which they will fill up for you. Take a photocopy of your passport and visa for verification as they ask for it.

Lastly, I got the export permit which was the toughest to get (not impossible). You fill out the OLM form on their website. It's a little complicated but doable. Afterwards, visit their office and nag them consistently to get it done. I had to go 3 days and whine a lot till they finally gave it to me. Don't leave this for the last minute. Btw- this isn't mandatory if you travel on the same flight with your pet BUT be cautious and just keep it with you. No harm.

The guys at Livestock department shared contact details of the quarantine department at the airport. I contacted them 2 days before my flight. These guys are lovely! They were so helpful 😭 I'll forever be grateful of them. Anyway- they asked me to email them all my documents 2 days before the flight and I did that.

I arrived 3.5 hours before my flight at the airport. The quarantine office guy met me at the gate. I was travelling alone and my dogs crate and my luggage were huge so the guy accompanied me and helped me with everything the whole time. I did not know I needed to tie my crate with cable ties which the quarantine guy gave me.

We went to the check in counter and they weighed and kept a set of documents (keep 3 sets of photocopies with you and your original documents in your carry on). I gave them her kibble and water which they taped on the crate. They kept her crate beside the check in counter the rest of the time. The airport guys are very used to pets because they apparently get a lot.

I got to see her one last time before boarding the flight. When I reached Doha, I asked at the info counter and they showed me a photo of Maya! It was a huge relief. I saw her next at the pet collection belt (A7) in Montreal airport. She looked very stressed but we had to go on :(

We checked into customs where they very briefly checked her vaccination records (nothing else) and cleared us. I dropped her off at the check in counter at Montreal and then finally got her back in Toronto airport! She was dehydrated and she didn't eat the whole time.. but once we got home, she was eating and drinking fine! Alhamdulillah ❤️

Regarding cost: Her entire ticket cost me 450 USD which I had to pay at the check in counter in Dhaka.

This entire process was very easy for me. Initially I contacted some agencies who help in transportation and they really stressed me out. They also quoted me 6200 USD!!!! They really scared me making up unnecessary issues. Please do your own research 🙏
