I bought a certificate at a fundraiser last year at The Rise Rescue Alliance for local Sequim artist, David Montague to create a pet portrait. He absolutely captured the soul of this beautiful dog. This was our StellLuna that we lost when we first moved here.

He does amazing work for pet owners and in our community. He’s a beautiful human and artist. Check him out!

Meet a MerMutt:

There is not much cuter than a bulldog puppy. Seriously. So squishable. This is Ox. His dad wants to take him out on the paddle board this summer so we practiced today. He did great! 💜

Meet a MerMutt:

This is Ben. Ben is starting to experience some arthritis and joint pain. He is GORGEOUS and anxious. He is not super psyched about the pool but his parents are the BEST. CHEERLEADERS. EVER. They cheer him on and encourage him to do it for his health. And for chicken nuggets. He has made amazing progress and will hopefully be swimming ‘in the wild’ this summer. Look for updated pics…I, myself, can’t wait. Go Ben, you’ve got this! ❤️

Meet MerMutts:

This is Abbie and Molly. Could they BE any cuter? Can you tell which one is more treat motivated? 👀 They came because they are 13 and 11 and are having some back and joint issues. They did SO well in the pool. Very brave. Molly is an awesome swimmer. All long-backed dogs can benefit from swimming early on. It can help strengthen their ‘core,’ if you will, and allow for better mobility throughout their life.

Meet a MerMutt:

This is Chula. I wish I had video of her getting into the pool. She hopped straight from the deck over the stairs and into the pool. Smooth like butter. This girl loves her swims and has a history of dock diving! She has hip dysplasia and will enjoy the zero impact exercise that swim provides for her. Her new puppy sister, Reba will join us in two weeks. Oh what fun!

This sweet girl is Maggie Mae and she will ‘work for food!’ She’s here to get some mobility back and maybe lose a little weight. Her mom says after just one visit she is walking so much better! The water does wonders for sore achy muscles and joints. ❤️

What a great dog this little girl is. She’s adjusting to potty schedule and we’ve had no accidents since day one. She’s bright and happy. Great energy but will play with toys by herself. She would love a home with someone who loves walkies because walkies are life. She goes two to three miles per day pretty easily on multiple walks. Not required but she loves! Meet a MerMutt:

This is Kenai. He’s a dachshund mix here to build strength in his leg post femur surgery. Swimming will also help build his core to support his long back. He ADORES chasing squeaky toys!

He was dipping his ears in the water so I reached out to Hedz Up Pets Watercollars to get some support so he can enjoy the swim without the head shakes. We got it in a print to match his favorite giraffe toy. He loves it and now can set torpedos to launch! Tail splashes away, my friend.

We’re so excited to have new ART at the spa! Robyn Chance, Artist & Author drove all the way from Olympia on Friday and we hung her animal art all over the spa. It looks amazing! Mostly reproductions in the spa for sale but Robyn also does pet portraiture and even a paint your pet class that we’re discussing for the future.

In my copious spare time, I decided to foster this precious girl from WAG Welfare for Animals Guild. She’s an 18 month old Maltipoo. She weighs about 9.5 pounds and is a tiny little sassafras. She loves walks and playing fetch with her toys. She does well in the bath and sat for me while I brushed her. She gets along with my two girls (dogs). She sleeps through the night in her crate next to my bed. She loves to be with you but also likes her own space. Rides well in the car. (Foster) failure is not an option here as much as I love her. I just adore her. Super great dog! Let us know if you know anyone that would love her like I do!

My big girl Pearl has had funky ears her whole life. One ear escalated and we had infections treated here and there for years. Turned out there was a growth in that ear. We had it removed when we did her dental cleaning last year but it turns out that didn’t fix it. Enter Dr. Wolf. She came to my home and gave acupuncture and recommend some Chinese herbs for Pearl’s ear. It was better within a month and now BOTH of Pearl’s ears are free and clear and healthy. We continue to see Dr Wolf for acupuncture and laser she does in our home. She’s kind and gentle and I highly recommend her. I have at least 4 or 5 other clients at MerMutts that use and love her, too. Let me know if you have any questions but most dogs that use my services could also benefit from hers.

This girl has always been a good swimmer but has made mad progress in her bravery. She’ll take treats from me now and Mel has her walking on a leash. Baby steps but HUGE for this sweet girl. She would love a foster home to get some quality one on one time with some awesome humans to get even stronger and braver! Sweet little Foxy…

If you’ve ever wondered how serious people are about swimming their dogs…one of the worst weather days in the history of Sequim - brutally cold temps and icy roads - and SEVEN dogs came to swim today. For FOUR of them, it was their first time.

I love these people AND their dogs. A couple of cutie patooties pictured were new today… ❤️

It’s going to be cold, here on the Peninsula. 🥶

I took my girls on a long ‘last ditch effort before it’s tooooo cold’ walk this afternoon. They’ll be mad at me since we can’t go when it’s 20 degrees.

I’ll put my old Xmas and Amazon boxes to use in the living room - put a few treats in a few of the boxes - and let them search for the treats in all the boxes. A few rounds of this and they are exhausted.

My fab client Sarah at Sea Change Canine gave me this excellent advice! They love it and it’s easy.

Meet a MerMutt:

This sweetest girl is Pria. She is about 130 lb mastiff and just a massive bundle of love. She will do anything for her momma and treats. She swims so well when mom walks ahead of her outside the pool and provides yummy treats. Her mom and dad bring her and it takes all three of us to lower her into the pool. She is working on weakness in her back end and building muscle.💪
