The World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA)🏥 has just announced their new spay & neuter guidelines.🙀 Due to growing evidence of adverse health effects of traditional g***dectomy (spay/neuter) and increases in cancers and joint disorders, WSAVA suggest the best practice for RESPONSIBLE pet parents is to leave dogs and cats unaltered (intact). Additionally noting, spaying or neutering a dog younger than 6 months of age is NOT recommended because of an increase of detrimental health risks. Acknowledging in some circumstances, such as rescues and shelters, where leaving an animal intact is not an option, they stress the importance of education and acceptance of newer, alternative sterilization techniques that have less long-term health concerns. 🙌

Don't you just love updates, our puppy parents are the best. This is Snowy she has an amazing dedicated family she is included in every special event with her beautiful fur mumma. This gorgeous family drove out for a meet and great to pick their choice, but snowy picked them. She immediately bonded with her fur mumma and we have loved watching her journey grow with her family including her little fur sister Bella ❤️

Long awaited update on Metchka 💙
Metchka has gone to his amazing new home. He was very stressed when we picked him up and had been through alot. However he has been adopted by one of our most amazing puppy parents, a beautiful dedicated couple that own two of our other dogs. His furdadda was amazing when picking him up, nothing but good vibes, no expectations which was so important. Dogs, like us, suffer from stress and trauma and GSD bond very closely to their human family. So the way we handle them is extremely important in big changes in their lives. He is fittimg right in, coming along in leaps and bounds and loves his fursisters, Mumma & Dadda 💖🫶🏼

URGENT home or foster home needed.PLEASE help to save Metchkas life!!! Due to a sudden change in his family, they are no longer able to keep this gorgeous boy. It is no fault of his own. His furmumma is DEVASTATED😢💔Metchka has had $1000s of training spent on him. He can do many clever things. He is an intelligent boy. He is crate trained, he loves cats, he loves female dogs and gets on with friendly non dominant male dogs. He has been desexed. Metchka was bred by us we have full family history which is fantastic. STUDY FINDS RAW-FED DOGS HAVE LESS E.COLI THAN DRY-FED DOGS
Pyotmetra is a nasty, potentially life-threatening infection of the uterus that causes it to fill with bacteria and pus. You don't want it. But they're still not sure how it arises. The most accepted hypothesis is that bacteria creep up from the intestinal tract as extraintestinal (occurring outside the intestines) infection of pathogenic Escherichia coli is the most frequent pathogen, accounting for 57–100% of cases.

They wanted to learn more so they swabbed the uterine and re**al areas of 72 bi***es with pyometra. For their control (something to compare them to where you might find normal results), they swabbed 53 bi***es without pyo that were dry-fed and 38 bi***es without pyo that were raw-fed.

Crucially, they found A LOWER GROWTH RATE of E. coli was observed in dogs fed a raw diet than in those fed commercial dry feed.

In fact, they detected 130 different strains of E.coli from the faeces of dogs fed dry food and just 85 from the faeces dogs fed a raw meat-based diet.

"The present study suggests that intestinal colonization by certain types of E. coli could be a risk factor for the occurrence of E. coli pyometra in bi***es and that diet can influence intestinal colonization by such strains."

Well now, isn't that interesting.

Next time your dry food spokesperson goes on about safety, make sure to share the study below with them!

A few more of these sorts of studies, coupled with the enormous safety studies we already have, and they won't be able to go on about safety much longer (with a straight face) and will move on to the next terror. It used to be nutrition, then balance now safety. It WILL be something else tmrw because charming companies like Mars really, really, really like selling cereal-based pet food...and health care plans, for some reason...

I dont know about you, however here at Wilderborn we are so over people thinking their dogs can run free in public areas while we are responsible and have our dogs leashed.
There are plenty of off leash areas now.
Unruly dogs charging at us, with little to no recall training, even if just to play doesn't sit well with our dogs as GSD are a guarding breed.
Even most cross German Shepherds have a strong guarding instinct.
Being responsible and thinking of others can prevent so many awful situations between our loved four legged companions and us 👍

What are leafy greens?
Leafy greens by definition are the leaves of any of a variety of loose leafed plants. These can range from the following; spinach, kale, parsley, wheatgrass, collard greens, broccoli, and pak choi. Also included are; dandelion greens, beetroot greens and Swiss chard.

Thanks to their photosynthetic properties, leafy greens contain an abundance of vitamin K. Vitamin K supports bone health and is also known for its blood clotting and wound healing properties. Leafy greens are typical to be low in calories and fat, making them a great addition to the bowl for dog’s who are on a weight loss journey.

📚 Scientific research has demonstrated that consumption of vegetables by dogs slows downs and prevents cancer. In a study carried out by Purdue University and the American Veterinary Medical Association, owners of 92 Scottish Terriers with developing transitional cell carcinoma (otherwise known as bladder cancer), and 83 healthy Scottish Terriers completed questionnaires about their vegetable consumption.

The study found a very strong connection between dietary inclusion of vegetables and cancer-free diagnosis in these dogs. Dogs who consumed any green leafy vegetables had reduced the risk of developing bladder cancer by 90%, while dogs who consumed any yellow-orange vegetables like carrots reduced the risk by 70%. This study clearly demonstrates a direct link between plant ingredients and prevention of cancer in dogs.

PLEASE share this info with your friends and family.
Cycad toxicity is absolutely deadly to our canine friends. It’s horrendous to nurse a cycad toxicity dog, knowing that the prognosis is almost always extremely poor. Every part of the tree is severely toxic to dogs and I personally believe that they should come with huge warning labels for potential buyers. Some dogs chew/eat plants. Some don’t. Some never have but may decide to start some day. This particular plant is not worth that risk. Ingestion results in liver failure and it happens very quickly. Even under specialist Veterinary care, the mortality rate on cycad toxicity patients is very, very high. Please, please, PLEASE don’t have these in your garden if you have dogs or make sure that access is restricted entirely. Let your friends and family know and be sure to share this info with as many people as you can. This is such an avoidable tragedy…. All of the devastated owners we’ve dealt with were completely unaware of this danger.

And yes their names can be changed 😉

Update: sadly this little precious puppy couldn"t fight any longer💔 She is not in pain now and has crossed the rainbow bridge 🌈 to be with her creator.
It's not all fun and games being a breeder that cares. It can be heartbreaking and a tonne of hard work. It's not 9 to 5, it's 7 days week, all hours! Love our GSDs 💗

Prayers for this special teeny tiny girl. A week ago our 2nd and final pure-bred GSD litter for the year was born. We were starting to think Mumma was having a phantom pregnancy, but then 6 puppies were born. Heartbreakingly we have lost two. 4 puppies remain, 3 doing amazingly well.
However we had to take one away from our doggie Mumma to try and save her and hand raise her as she was having alot of trouble attaching. Wilderborns human furmumma had a talk to her doggie Mumma, when she looked concerned and stressed as to why she was taking away her puppy and asked her to trust her. She said" I will do all that I can to try and save your little puppy so you need to trust me" The doggy Mumma looked at her and the connection was made, she new that her puppy needed help, she sat back down and relaxed with her 3 puppies 💞
Some long nights ahead in trying to save this tiny beauty.
Wilderborns GSD great grandmother Eva is personally helping to clean and toilet her great granddaughter. It is a beautiful famliy affair here. With 4 other bi***es in the house helping too. It is so beautiful to see the amazing motherly nature at work as it's meant to be made by our Creator.
