I had an incredible evening at the Houston Business Excellence Awards where I was presented with the “Home Based Business Of The Year” award. I was extremely honoured to have even been nominated but to win the award was an absolute privilege. It is 6 years ago this month that I embarked on this journey. I was working a job I hated unsure of what I wanted to do in life when my mom suggested I look into dog grooming. I’m a firm believer that everything in life that is meant to come our way does, and always at the right time. As luck would have it, there was a grooming school an hour and a half away from me. I drove 3 hours 5 days a week for 6 weeks until I completed my course. As I mentioned, all that’s meant for us comes to us - as luck would have it my house happened to be set up perfectly for a home based business, thus the beginning of “The Pooch Parlour.” I officially opened my doors April of 2019. The town of Houston has, and continues to provide me with the utmost support and for that I am forever grateful. I have been a single income home owner with a horse addiction and the support of the community (and surrounding communities) has enabled me to fulfil some of my wildest dreams. My clients keep my horses fed, my dogs fed, my dreams wild and my heart full. I can never thank the clientele I have enough. I have met some amazing dogs whom I have grown to love. It’s not just a job to me. I love your dogs. I know a lot about them, every wart, scar, lump or bump. My heart swells with joy when I watch dogs come barreling to my door excited to see me. My favourite part of grooming is rushing to the window to watch the beautiful dogs prance out to their car with their owner. I have also had the opportunity to form relationships with some pretty great people and made some friendships. My shop is a place where dogs can be themselves and owners can confide. I get to smooch, hug and love all of the beautiful souls on my table all the while dancing around talking to them like they’re going to answer and singing them 90’s county songs. I’m incredibly blessed to do what I do and I will never forget I get to do it because of you all. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Huge thank you also to the crew at the Chamber of Commerce and to all of the award/evening sponsors. ✨ 🤍
