I pride myself on ensuring wild animals can remain wild after I have nursed them into adulthood but this little one would not eat unless it was ON me. So I am trying to get Fig to eat from my hand, away from me, this is a slow process but this is a million times better than feeding her in my collar bone!! Yay Fig for eating with your feet somewhere other than on me 🏆 progress!!!!

Being relaxed at the Vets is a big thing for a lot of dogs especially for those who have had bad experiences or whose backgrounds are difficult ones, like Toby.

A huge thank you as always to the kind and wonderful staff at St John's Veterinary Surgery for always going out of their way to make sure their patients are happy.

As you can see Toby coped brilliantly and was very relaxed getting his injections today (first time inside the practice, previously St John’s have assessed Toby in the car which is 100% the right thing to do with an anxious dog)

Proud of you Tobes! ♥️

I’d never fully trust my dogs around my ducks but Dexter is really fond of Fig and likes watching 🦆

A dogs neck is a very delicate part of their body!

The neck and cervical spine contain the spinal cord, this is where the nerves of the front legs originate. Excessive paw licking is quite often misdiagnosed as allergies when it is in fact pain.

Putting stress on the neck can cause painful disc damage and shoulder problems

A dog has the same number of vertebrae as a giraffe (think about that before choking a dog)

One of the most important structures of the nervous system "The Vagus Nerve" originates at neck level and this controls life essential organs like lung, heart, stomach, and intestinal tract.

The Thyroid gland is located in the neck. If this gets inflamed the immune system trys to remove the inflamed cells.
The destruction of the Thyroid gland cells can lead to hypothyroidism

Increased pressure put on the Jugular vein can cause seizures
Ear and Eye issues are significantly increased

Being je**ed on a lead causes whiplash and bruising.

The epidermis of a dog is only 3-5 cells thick
A humans is 10-15 cells thick

So WHY would anyone want to use a noose ....sorry I mean a slip lead?

A well fitted Y shaped harness is the safest and kindest peice of equipment to use.

I love watching how dogs interact with one another. These four have a lovely understanding and a lot of affection for one another and I could watch them all day!

Sometimes I need to remember to practise what I preach! A lot of dogs like a den, a little doggy cave, it makes them feel safe. My dogs have always loved a crate but I put mine away as they seem to be happier in their armchairs (and two large crates take up alot of space). Dotty is very unsettled at night and wanders around barking and howling so I got the crates back out to see if this might help (my clever niece’s suggestion). Both dogs are so happy to have their little dog dens back, I feel terrible I put them away
