“sociability is a spectrum’ - I love this phrase.

ARE YOU A BOOK CLUB OR A RAVE PERSON? How I often explain dog social preferences to clients.... Imagine how you want to connect with people, how you fill your social cup. What's your ideal night? A book club with the same members week after week? A dinner party where you meet some friend's significant others but most of the people you know? A pub with a cozy familiar back ground with a mix of familiar and new faces? A rave filled to the brim with tons of new potential friends? Whatever your answer none of them are wrong, they are personal and right for you. But if your ideal night is a book club with the same people, you will likely going dislike being dragged to a rave. It's definitely not going to do much to fill your emotional cup. Your dog is not much different- What is your dog's idea social outing. A quiet walk with family members only (book club), a group class doing a parallel activity (dinner party dog), a walk in busy local park (pub) or a day at the dog park (rave). We need to stop trying to make book club dogs be rave dogs.... it does not fill their emotional cup or do them many favours. Instead they will likely be irritated and depleted. Your social preferences can change as you age and that's normal too. and the same for our dogs. Your young pup who may have loved the dog park, starts to dislike it by the age of 2, that's pretty normal. Kind of how I stopped liking clubs in my mid 20's. Sociability is a spectrum, it can change based on your dogs age, learning history, genetics and preferences. These preferences are not right or wrong, they just are. (we're not huge fans of free for all dog parks, although there are some dogs who thrive in that free play environment there are too many people who attend with unsocial dogs. We recommend you always carefully select your dog's play mates and monitor the body language of all parties well and interrupt when a dog is uncomfortable)

It’s a good day for a snooze I guess! 😴😴 these characters are apparently catching up on some sleep! We had Miss Penny come for a sleepover for 9 days and Miss Dixie came for a sleepover for 4 days last week! 🥰 ❤️

I spent 10 nights with these beauties this summer - Bella & Genna! ❤️ they graciously shared “their” bed with me (I was allocated a small sliver🤣), kept me company at night while I watched reruns of The Big Bang Theory & Friends, took me for walks around the block, and let me hang out in their cool backyard! The girls were great hosts! While their family went away to Florida and meet Mickey Mouse! Looking forward to the next time I get to be a houseguest with these girlies ❤️🥰

Miss Penny came to visit yesterday! She is 5 months old!! 🥰

She is coming to stay with us for a week in November, so her mama wanted to make sure she came to hang out beforehand so that she is super comfortable ❤️
She fit in perfectly with the crew, puppy energy always mixes well with the crazy bullies who are energizer bunnies themselves 🤣🤣 Miss Lita always loves having new friends to play with 🥰

I hung out with this crew again - twice this summer! - a few days for their family to get away with friends and a few days while they went to a weekend long music festival 🥰
Taylor, Bolt & Peach the kitties and Louis the pup!
Lou and I went on long walks as the weather was perfect the nights I stayed! We snuggled on the couch and watched Two Broke Girls in the evenings, and he wasn’t a bed hog either! 🤣

September already! Unreal! Where do I start…🤔 my last post was June 28 - my oh my how time flew by this summer!!

Another super fun-filled summer hanging out with all my 4 legged friends! We were having so much fun I forgot to share our adventures, so I’ll do my best over the next little bit! ❤️

I spent the second weekend of July with my favourite Boxers, Oscar & Matilda, to start the summer off! These two are such characters and I love their personalities 🥰 we enjoyed long walks, and snuggles ❤️ we had a ton of fun while their family got away for the weekend ☺️
