Kristine consistently adheres to the dressage “pyramid of training” as defined by the United States Dressage Federation, producing confident and correct horses who are happy to work for their riders. She is a very patient and methodical instructor with a gifted ability to simplify complex concepts. Above all, she provides each student an enjoyable learning experience with their horse. In 1988 Kristine was assistant trainer for 1984 U.S. Olympic Dressage Team rider Sandy Pflueger, at the Theodorescu's Olympic dressage training center in Germany. In 1989 Kristine lived in Great Britain to study, train, and test for the British Horse Society (BHS) Instructor certification. The BHS tests for teaching skills; knowledge of horse and stable management; and riding ability in dressage, show jumping, and cross-country jumping. In the USA, Kristine's main coach has been 1992 U.S. Olympic dressage Bronze medalist and International judge Charlotte Bredahl. During her youth Kristine trained with many renowned horse trainers including an apprenticeship under her cousin, Milton Strand, of Strands Minnesota Arabians. Early on in Kristine's training career she had great success showing from local to national and regional levels in many different disciplines: dressage; huntseat; Western pleasure; and obstacle trail at Open, Arabian and Morgan breed shows. Kristine also did extensive trail riding and worked with polo and stock horses. She has a lifetime of experience in breeding and raising horses, primarily German Oldenburg Verband Warmbloods.

Talent isn’t measured in how many 1st you achieve or how many trophies you have. Talent is turning up even when you didn’t want too, it’s going that extra mile, putting your horses needs before your own. You don’t have to have the world’s best horse to be talented, talent is such an individualistic thing. When you look in that mirror next, tell yourself you are enough, you can do this and take a breath, step back and review all that you have achieved no matter how small you may think it is, I assure you there will be someone aspiring to be you. Live your best life with your dancing partner. Share this to someone you think needs to see or read this

How often do you lunge? Lunging builds strength, balance, and responsiveness without a rider’s weight, helps focus fresh horses, and is ideal for groundwork or fitness conditioning. Building a connection from the ground is one of the most strongest bonds that a rider can make, listening to subtle ques and reading body language. Seeing the horse swing through their back and really understand how your horse moves naturally.

Very true. Many riders get frustrated with slow progress at times, especially if they have a good trainer who teaches correctly—no short-cuts! Riders who are patient and diligent about learning correct basics will reap rewards in their riding for a lifetime.

I read a theory about why so many riders lack a deep command of basics, and it was explained like this---

Correct basics are hard to master because there is an enormous amount of repetition involved, and if someone has tried something hundreds, possibly thousands of times, and still can’t do it, it is easy for the person to conclude that he/she is taking on an impossible challenge.

In his book “Mastery,” George Leonard wrote that on the quest to become good, there will be long stretches of “seeming non-improvement.”

Like watching grass grow, change is happening, but so slowly that it can’t be measured daily, weekly, or even monthly. But at some point, for those who stick with it, “suddenly” they can do things that before they couldn’t do.

The issue is giving up in frustration before putting in those many many many many months of practice.

That is ONE theory. I am sure there are many others, but this one does ring true.
