Pup Edition

Some people know that our grumpy sweetie pie pup, Buddy, has terrible allergies with the worst allergens being dust and pine. He has been to different vets and dermatologist, through various treatments regimens and the best thqt can be done is symptom treatment.

He is always itchy, but to differing degrees. He also goes through two rough patches from March-April and Sept-October. This last March, I was at wits end. We were giving him meds, prescription diet, baths with prescription shampoo every other day and his skin was still beet red, he was scratching profusely, licking constantly and losing. He was just miserable. I was frequently contemplating his quality of life and how was he going to keep going on like this.

Buddy has been on that prescription kibble forever. So I said let's see if making his food will change anything. In April, I switched to making his food as a test to see if the prescription diet was worth contin I started with a raw diet and then started cooking it becaue he was having trouble eating it. Not tummy issues, but he didn't like the texture of the raw food.

I know this is anadotal, but I can see a visible difference in a reduction in his symptoms and in his mood. Through the summer months, his everyday symptoms were milder and through the fall rough patch he was only slightly itchy and he did not have the constant licking.

Is making his food more work than picking up pre-made from the store, absolutely, but it is well worth it because he is not miserable. Miles and Molly love it too. Molly has way more energy than when she was on kibble and Miles is a Corgi with a healthy weight, which is rare for that breed who are frequently referred to a loaf of bread 🍞.

The recipe below is my chicken recipe for the pups. I have a beef but Molly doesn't like beef so I don't make it as much anymore. They ALL like chicken. This for two weeks of food for the three of them. They eat a little more than two pounds per day + plus toppers + treats.

Serving SIZES
Buddy 10 ounces per day
Molly 6 ounces per day
Miles 14 ounces per day, more when his sister is in town beacaue they rip and run all day.
