Pretty but impossible to contain - Smokey is the only cat who knows how to escape the cat fence and does so every day. He faithfully comes in to eat and visit twice a day.

Evander Holyfield is starting to hang around closer. He loves to be petted but it still makes him nervous. Makes you wonder where he came from. Feel like he must have been someone’s pet at some point.🥺

Peppermint was doing great until suddenly she wasn’t. It started with her vomiting a small amount of clear liquid and the next day, she did not eat and was dehydrated. We went to the vet, and she had an exam, bloodwork, and radiographs. Nothing too unusual, which was a relief considering her symptoms and the fact that she is an older cat. Brought her home with fluids and a prescription of antibiotics. It took several days before she started feeling better, and after 6 days or so, happy to report she is back to eating and drinking normally and might be trashing my bathroom.😂

It is important with both pet cats and stray/feral cats in an outdoor setting to watch to make sure they all eat and act normal. Catching something like this early gives you and your cat the best odds of beating it.

Evander Holyfield loves other cats, but as a newer resident, it takes time for the others to warm up. Like Evander, Dilemma is very feral and seeks out the company of other cats and avoids humans, so hoping they become good friends.🤞😽

Once a scaredy cat and now a cuddly cat.❤️ It can take time to win over a stray cat and some never do get trusting enough to enjoy physical contact, but every cat deserves to feel safe and loved.

In the enclosed area, there are two shelters shown in the pictures so that cats that do not get along have a separate place to go. These shelters are plastic, which makes them easier to clean as sometimes cats, both males and females, might spray. Currently, none of them are doing any spraying since a couple of the cats that sprayed have been adopted. These shelters seem to stay cool in summer and warm in winter and were bought at BJs. Even the feral cats use the cat door and seem to enjoy the shelters.

Somebody is always peeking. Evander watching from the window and Dilemma watching from the ground are both extremely feral. They are coming closer but still don’t trust. They both seem pretty content, and Dilemma loves the other cats.

Incredibly happy that this very feral cat I named Evander Holyfield (because he looks like he has been in some fights) that had previously been tnr’d but then escaped through a hole in the fence created by an opportunistic opossum is finally back inside. I had been feeding him outside of the enclosure, and he kept coming to the gate but was too scared to walk past me through the door when I opened it. He had been allowing me to get closer and meowing at me and making biscuits on the ground recently instead of running away. Today he came to the door, and when I opened it, he came inside and started eating. I am relieved he is inside and am hopeful that he might even want to be friends.

New Toy Tuesday means hide-n-go-seek. Do you see the cats? Cats love these inexpensive toys, and they hold up extremely well outdoors. Although they have indoor space, toys like this sometimes get marked, and we don’t need that smell inside, lol.

Evander Holyfield hasn’t been here long, but he seems to he betting more comfortable. He is very feral and showed up with strange injuries that have left him with scars and a smaller bottom jaw. Luckily, he can still eat and is doing great. He is not as fearful and even comes up to check out the food. The injuries almost look like they could be from an owl, but Evander is a fighter. He is safe now.

We had a couple of visitors, and Archie wasn’t happy. Since he was hiding during feeding time, I wanted to check on him. Evander Holyfield let me know that he wasn’t happy about me intruding. Luckily, Archie calmed down after a little while and emerged to eat. Most of the cats here prefer the company of other kitties but not people and that is just fine.

Granite and Dillema are two very feral cats. Both have gradually improved as far as not running away from me unless I try to touch them and Granite has started to take food from my hand and even politely tap me when she wants treats.

Cashew says you can look but you can’t touch, haha. When he first arrrived, he had a respiratory infection, so we didn’t give him vaccines right away and wanted to wait until after treating him for it. He is extremely feral and bit me when I was giving him Clavamox. I spent a tense few days reading about rabies and with some of the symptoms like irritability, I was wondering how I would even know if I had it, lol. Luckily, I realized he had been with me longer than the quarantine period and had never had any symptoms. He seems to enjoy it here but does not have any interest in me besides me filling food and water bowls. It’s nice to see him happy in the grass.

It has been quite awhile since posting because it has been a busy time. Since a few cats were spraying in a territorial manner, we decided to replace the previous building that was metal and wood and being slowly destroyed by them, lol, with two plastic buildings so that the cats could go to separate shelters if they don’t get along and so the shelters would be easier to clean. However, doing this required taking the fence down for several days, but we did put it back as soon as we could. In that time, all the cats were loose in the yard. Most of them stayed put, but sadly, Flannery has not been seen. It has been very upsetting and we have posted and searched the neighborhood. Have seen black cats with the same build in neighbor’s yards, but since Flannery is not completely tame, we aren’t sure if the sightings are him and don’t think he would come when called if he did wander off to a different yard. One other really feral all black cat who we neutered a few months prior to this is hanging around outside of the fence and seems to be contemplating climbing back in. Still hoping Flannery will come back and that this cat, named Evander Holyfield, will stick around. Just wanted to post an update. They seem happy now that they have adjusted to the new buildings, but it is bittersweet without Flannery here.

Here is to hoping - Sebastian is currently on a trial period to be adopted. If he adapts well, he will be living in a great home with a cute puppy brother. He is one of the sweetest cats and got along with everyone here. He is missed, but we hope it all works out because he loves being inside and cuddling on a lap.❤️

Instead of wasting away again in Margaritaville, the song should be “Weighing way more in Margaritaville.” The cats really take liberties with the food since there is an abundance of food to make sure even the smaller, more skittish cats have enough to eat. Mo cats mo weight problems, lol.
