Hi friends! I wanted to reshare a blog post I created a while back. I LOVE and really appreciate any referrals I get and tags on posts with people looking for trainers and behavior professionals but I also know that I'm just one person and there are many others out there.

If you find this to be a helpful blog post, it would be a great resource to share when you come across people looking for help for their dog. My hope is that it points people in a good direction 💕

Searching for the perfect trainer and coach for your dog can be a daunting task. But, by looking out for specific red and green flags, you can find a trainer that you and your family can feel good about. This guide aims to provide you with a round-up of t

When rescuing dogs, it's important to meet them where they're at. While we want to "save them and bring them to safety", sometimes our perception of that and theirs can look very different. 💕

Here are some clips from a recent call within the Pup Parents Membership where we discuss this

⚠️Spoiler alert for the movie "ROOM" ...where a boy grew up in one familiar space (albeit dark and small and not meeting basic needs) , and when he was suddenly brought into the outside world, he was completely overwhelmed.

For our dogs, it can feel the same. Even if a space isn’t perfect for them in the long term, its familiarity makes it feel safe. That’s why safe spaces are so important. Sometimes for a dog who grew up in a crate, we might want to save them from ever being crated again but for some dogs, that's what they know. That's what's predictable. To take that option from them when their world has aleady changed so much can be extremely overwhelming. Meet your dog where he's at. Move slowly from there.

Behavior problems aren’t about “bad dogs” or “bad people.” They’re often symptoms of bigger problems and of unmet needs. 🐾

This idea of Total Welfare, pioneered by Kim Brophey (creator of the L.E.G.S.® framework), helps us see the whole dog—their experiences, environment, genetics, and health—not just the behavior they're displaying.

I put together a new blog post that dives into the concept of Total Welfare, the new Five Domains model, and what it means for our dogs at home.

Modern life is busy, unpredictable, and sometimes overwhelming — not just for us, but for our dogs too. 🐾

The truth is, our pups don’t need perfect lives.
What they need most are anchors of safety and security they can count on when routines shift.

👉 A predictable hello ritual
👉 A cozy spot with a chew during family dinner.
👉 A calm bedtime wind-down.

These little anchors create clarity, reduce stress, and help our dogs feel steady in a changing world.

What’s one “anchor” your dog already has — or one you’d like to create for them?

Dogs are great pattern detectives. 🕵️‍♀️
They’re constantly scanning their world, both asking, “What usually happens here?” and deciding "This is what usually happens here."

Predictable Patterns of Precedent (PPPs) matter so much. These simple, reliable rhythms in daily life give our dogs predictability they can count on. When life makes sense through patterns, the brain can rest, trust can grow, and daily life feels steadier—for both dogs and families.

Troublesome PPPs (like barking when a package shows up or pacing at bedtime) can be reshaped into new ones that feel calmer and safer.

⬇️ I’d love to hear—what’s one pattern your dog already has that works well (or maybe one that could use a reset)?

This is a risky position for me to take - floor level of a 5 month old puppy at 7pm.

My Why

If you are feeling overwhelmed, uninspired, lost, too busy, stuck, (fill in the blank), I get it. There are many things I know very little about and would feel stuck in knowing where to start, which would very likely keep me from getting started.

But look, here's the thing... When we live with dogs or kids (or both), they are always learning from us, whether we're ready or not. My hope for you is that I can offer you direction, a plan, and a jump-start in your dog's training and a feeling of relief in the overwhelm. With 10+ years in dog training and behavior experience, let my level of expertise be your guide and support in this area.

I'm a Certified Professional Dog Trainer, Behavior Consultant, Fear Free Certified, I hold a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, and an Associate's Degree in Animal Science. I work as a Veterinary Technician and offer Private in-home training for your dog, as well as online learning! But that's what I offer, not who I am.

I started my business, Miss Behavior, in 2008 and I am constantly seeking and implementing ways to teach you how to better your life with your four-legged companion, whether through doing much of the training for you, offering online options, or listening to you and thinking beyond the box.
