Remember... “Socialization is a LIFELONG journey, not a DESTINATION.” 🐾

Whether your dog is a natural social butterfly or often needs their own space, it’s important to remember that building social skills takes time, patience, and ongoing practice. 🌟 No matter their age or past experiences, dogs are always learning and growing.

✅ Focus on safety first.
✅ Take it one step at a time.
✅ Check in on the story you're telling yourself about expectations.
✅ Celebrate the small wins.
✅ Find your support system

How has your dog’s socialization journey been? Share your story or any tips you’ve learned along the way! 🐕👇

🐾 Is your dog anxious about vet visits? 🐾

Finding the right vet care team can make all the difference for your pet’s well-being! 🏥✨ Check out these 5 essential questions to ask when looking for a vet that understands and supports your anxious dog. If you don't know how your current Vet would answer these questions, don't hesitate to start there. It may simply be time to schedule a time to sit down and have this conversation with the team you've already built.

🧐 Head over to my latest blog post where I dive into these questions and share why staying curious and asking the right questions is key to a stress-free vet experience.

Let’s work together to help your dog feel more comfortable and confident at the vet! 💕🐕

Summer 2024 as a mom. I'd like to share some real and raw feelings about my "right now".

My human kids are now 10 and 12 and I recognize that they're getting to the age where their social circles become super important. Novelty is incredibly enticing. They're becoming small adults without emotional regulation. They get along until you notice that. Then they don't. I think they live to make the other jealous and the bait and switch skills are strong. We clash more than usual and my husband and I see ourselves mirrored in them and sometimes that's a hard reflection to witness.

All this to say, this stage is hard AND it's fascinating. It's draining AND it's exciting. I question if I'm doing it "right", if I'm doing what's "best" AND I have proud moments.

Here's where I've landed tonight: I'm doing MY best. Some days my cup is full, other days it's very drained. Sometimes I can respond to messages, emails, posts. Other days, they get pushed away. Some days, I'm creative and focused. On others, I have a quick fuse and I lose my patience with every trigger. I recognize that when I lose my patience with the kids, it's not just about them. I try to give myself some grace. I'm only human.

Here's the thing...
You're doing your best. Some days your cup is full, other days... it's very drained. You'll lose your patience. Recognize that you're human and normal and awesome. Give yourself some grace 💕

Riley, fellow adolescent, says so. ⬇️

Are your dogs struggling to always get along? 🫣

This is a common theme in many households so I thought it was about time we look at the WHY. And let's go beyond the obvious triggers, like resources. I'd like to dig a little deeper 🐾💕

Let’s dive into 8 common (but lesser-known) triggers for dog conflicts, making it easier to prevent and manage these tense moments.

Understanding and seeing these triggers ahead of time can help prevent conflicts and foster a sense of safety and security among your family pups.

What do you think? Do you think any of these factors are possible triggers in your household?

Raise your "paw" if you have a Dog in the Bull Dog Group (including mixes) 🐾👇

This includes but is not limited to:
American Bulldog, American Staffordshire Terrier, Boxer, Bullmastiff, Bull Terrier, Dogo Argentino, English Bulldog, French Bulldog, Olde English Bulldogge, Pit Bull Terrier, and more!

Do the following traits describe your dog? 😊

Bull Dogs (no, not just Bulldogs) are known for being goofy, affectionate, entertainers. They go from 0-to-60 in 0.2 seconds and can struggle with getting back to 0.

They're powerful AND have no belief in personal space. They would crawl inside you if they could. They go all in on any task in front of them and that means that they're often not the first to back down from a challenge (whether a healthy challenge or not).

Talk to me about your Bull Breed!

🛑🐶 Understanding Your Dog's Trigger Zones 🐶🛑
Do you know which trigger zone your dog is in? Understanding these zones can help you better support your furry friend in different situations. Check out the graphic to learn more!

🔵 Neutral Zone: Your dog shows no behavioral changes and continues what they’re doing as if they don’t notice the trigger. This is the acclimation phase. 🐾

🟢 Curiosity Zone: Your dog perks up at the trigger, shows mild curiosity, and then goes back to what they were doing. This is a great time for desensitization. 🐕‍🦺

🟡 Engaged Zone: Your dog is alert to the trigger but can still re-engage with you. This is an ideal time for reinforcing alternative behaviors, creating positive associations. 🐶

🟠 Emotional Zone: Your dog seems fixated on the trigger and struggles to re-engage with you. Learning in this state is challenging, if not impossible. Try to get your dog to a less triggered state before attempting any behavior change 🐕

🔴 Reactive Zone: Your dog is highly reactive and unable to focus or think through any learning. They may exhibit fight, flight, freeze, or frenzy responses. It's best to ABORT. 🚫

Knowing these zones can help you respond appropriately and ensure your dog feels safe and understood. 🐾💖

Today, it was Leo's turn to go on a field trip. Leo has been working hard on his enthusiasm around new people and in new places. A lot of his enthusiasm comes in the form of frenzied behavior and is nervous energy. That means that the goal isn't to suppress jumping, leash pulling, and all his energy. But the goal is to give him appropriate outlets that help him meet his needs, give him coping strategies, and build his confidence.

We have been focusing on quieter parks prior to today's session but thought we would try nudging him a bit out of his comfort zone today and visited Aubuchon with a flexible goal of helping him pick out some flowers for mom💕 He did it! 🥳🥳

Give it a watch!

My Why

If you are feeling overwhelmed, uninspired, lost, too busy, stuck, (fill in the blank), I get it. There are many things I know very little about and would feel stuck in knowing where to start, which would very likely keep me from getting started.

But look, here's the thing... When we live with dogs or kids (or both), they are always learning from us, whether we're ready or not. My hope for you is that I can offer you direction, a plan, and a jump-start in your dog's training and a feeling of relief in the overwhelm. With 10+ years in dog training and behavior experience, let my level of expertise be your guide and support in this area.

I'm a Certified Professional Dog Trainer, Behavior Consultant, Fear Free Certified, I hold a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, and an Associate's Degree in Animal Science. I work as a Veterinary Technician and offer Private in-home training for your dog, as well as online learning! But that's what I offer, not who I am.

I started my business, Miss Behavior, in 2008 and I am constantly seeking and implementing ways to teach you how to better your life with your four-legged companion, whether through doing much of the training for you, offering online options, or listening to you and thinking beyond the box.
