Through advocacy, education, and direct action in Malta, our mission is to create a society where the worth and freedom of all animals are respected, ensuring they live on their own terms, free from human interference.

Animal Liberation Malta (ALM) supported today’s press conference as a stepping stone toward progress in the protection of wild animals. While we welcome the recent amendments to the Dangerous Animals legislation, our end goal remains clear: the abolition of animal captivity and exploitation.

Wild and exotic animals, often taken from their natural habitats, endure immense suffering in captivity. They are subjected to stressful, unnatural environments, deprivation of social interactions, and limited space to express natural behaviors. This cruel treatment is unacceptable, and it only highlights the urgency of our mission.

We believe wild animals should never be owned or confined, and remain committed to the long-term goal of creating a world where all animals live free from exploitation. Today’s event is part of our ongoing efforts to raise awareness, advocate for stronger regulations, and encourage a cultural shift that aligns with our abolitionist stance. ALM will continue to work towards a future where animal liberation is the norm, and we will not stop until all cages are empty.

Thank you to Moira Delia for her persistence in reporting a karozzin driver who violated animal welfare laws by exposing his horse to the August sun. Moira’s efforts led to a €2,000 fine for the driver after a two-year court battle, ensuring that the law is enforced to protect animals.

While we are grateful for Moira's dedication in standing up for the horses' rights, we know there is still more to be done. We look forward to the day when horses will receive the true rights and respect they deserve—living a life free from human exploitation, which includes the complete abolition of karozzini. 🙏🧡

Norway officially ended fur farming this month, and joins a growing number of countries taking action to protect animals from unnecessary suffering. Fur farming is a cruel industry that subjects animals to confinement, stress, and inhumane deaths. They are often electrocuted, gassed, or even killed by neck-breaking methods in an attempt to preserve their fur.

Despite the global shift away from animal exploitation, Malta still has some shops promoting leather and fur. It is shocking that, in this day and age, there are businesses that still choose to profit from animal abuse. We urge all consumers to boycott any such shops and help us send a powerful message that animal exploitation will no longer be tolerated.

Exposing Cruelty Should Not Be a Crime!

Animal rights activist Siena Callender is facing charges for trespassing and breaching security measures after exposing horrific abuse at Midland Bacon piggery in Victoria, Australia. Her hidden surveillance captured footage of a man sexually assaulting a pig. Instead of prosecuting the abuser, authorities are going after the whistleblower!

The reality of animal agriculture is hidden cruelty that thrives behind closed doors. It is only thanks to brave activists like Siena that the truth comes to light. But instead of holding abusers accountable, the system protects those who exploit animals and punishes those who fight for them.

We stand with Siena. We stand for the animals. The real crime here is what happens to animals every single day in slaughterhouses, farms, and testing labs.

27th January-MEMORIAL DAY

*"If the seed of human greed is ready to kill an undefended being who has nothing to give but their life, it’s no surprise there is no mercy when the same behavior is applied within our own species.*

We understand how controversial this imagery may appear at first glance.

While the human Holocaust and the mass killing of animals differ in intent and historical context, both confront us with profound ethical questions about exploitation, compassion, and humanity’s responsibilities.

Saying one is wrong while excusing the other for human consumption uses speciesism as the standard of judgment.

Here are some facts:
*•The Holocaust during World War II led to the genocide of approximately 6 MILLION Jewish people in just four years.*
*• Approximately 3 TRILLION animals are killed yearly for human consumption—including land animals and aquatic species.*

The term “animal holocaust” has been used to describe the large-scale killing of animals for food, clothing, testing, and more. Unlike the human Holocaust, driven by hate, this systematic slaughter is fueled by economic systems to meet human demand.

*On this memorial day for all victims of brutal, unjust deaths, let us also remember the non-human victims who are so often forgotten.*

May all your souls rest in peace🙏💚

Important note:
-The word Holocaust is derived from the Greek holokauston, a translation of the Hebrew word ʿolah, meaning a burnt sacrifice offered whole to God. This word was chosen, and gained wide usage, because, in the ultimate manifestation of the N**i killing program—the extermination camps—the bodies of the victims were consumed whole in crematoria or open fires.-

🇬🇧 Round Table Discussion - 22nd January 2025 with Minister Anton Refalo, Parliamentary Secretary Alicia Bugeja Said, and Mr. Sharlo Camilleri, Permanent Secretary

The meeting was a positive one, during which we, as activists, NGOs, and members of the animal rights community, presented a number of proposals, actions, and a road map to improve the welfare of 'dangerous' animals. This issue has always been a concern for us, but it became more pressing following the recent case involving the lions in Naxxar.

Many of the points raised during the discussion were addressed in detail, with common agreement on the urgency of the matter. It was agreed that a follow-up meeting will be held within three months to evaluate progress and discuss the road map further.

🇲🇹 Round Table Discussion - 22 ta’ Jannar 2025 mal-Ministru Anton Refalo, Segretarju Parlamentari Alicia Bugeja Said, Mr Sharlo Camilleri Segretarju Permanenti,

Il-laqgħa kienet wahda pożittiva fejn aħna, bħala attivisti, NGOs, u membri tal-komunità tad-drittijiet tal-annimali, ippreżentajna numru ta’ proposti, azzjonijiet, u pjan ta’ azzjoni biex titjieb il-ħarsien tal-annimali ‘perikolużi’. Din il-kwistjoni dejjem kienet tħassib għalina, iżda saret aktar inkwetanti wara l-każ riċenti tal-iljuni fin-Naxxar.

Ħafna mill-punti mressqa matul id-diskussjoni ġew diskussi fid-dettal fejn kien hemm qbil komuni dwar l-urġenza tas-suġġett. Kien miftiehem li ghandha issir laqgħa oħra ta’ segwitu se ssir fi zmien tlett xhur biex jiġi evalwat il-progress u issir diskuzzjoni dwar road map.

This is an advert and picture of fresh, local meat from a farm here in Malta. What are your thoughts?

At our Cat Farm, we pride ourselves on delivering premium sustainably-raised cat meat 🐈. Our farm combines modern techniques with a deep respect for nature, ensuring that every product is fresh, healthy and of the highest quality.

Actually, there was one difference. You need to switch the word "cat" for "rabbit". Now ask yourself why that changes things? Should we let society decide which animals we love and which we kill? Don't all animals deserve the same respect and care?

At Animal Liberation Malta, we stand in solidarity with the protesters in Hobart who recently took a stand for the horses forced to pull carriages. This outdated tradition is being increasingly challenged as awareness of animal exploitation grows. We believe it's only a matter of time before the karrozzini carriages in Malta are banned.

Just last month, San Antonio, Texas, took a monumental step by voting to phase out horse-drawn carriages over a five-year period. This progressive move sets a powerful example. Malta should follow suit and act now to ban karrozzini carriages, showing the world that we are a forward-thinking nation that prioritizes compassion over tradition.

Following the horrific case of the neglected lions in Naxxar, we welcome the news that legal action will be taken against those responsible under the Veterinary Services Act and the Animal Welfare Act. We do however also want to ask that people keep in mind that there are countless other animals living in similar conditions. Many domesticated animals across the island endure terrible suffering, with no help from the authorities, and their only escape is often death. Why do we decide which animals deserve help and which don’t? They all suffer equally. We can all make a difference by boycotting industries that cause harm.

Captivity Is Cruelty—Stop Supporting Their Suffering

Four lions and a leopard were found starving by Vuci ghall-Annimali, caged in darkness, and neglected on a Naxxar property. These majestic creatures, meant to roam vast savannahs, have been reduced to miserable prisoners. This is the ugly reality of animal exploitation in Malta.

And who’s responsible? Not just the individuals who abuse these animals or those who pay to see them in zoos, but also the authorities who allow exotic animals to enter Malta in the first place. How is it acceptable that nearly 400 wild animals are kept in captivity across the island, some even kept as “pets” by the wealthy? These aren’t pets; they’re living beings turned into mere objects of vanity and ego.

Every zoo ticket, every visit to these private animal prisons is a vote for their suffering. The authorities’ inaction enables this exploitation, and those who support it are complicit in the cruelty.

Hold abusers accountable! Stop turning a blind eye to this ongoing injustice! These animals deserve freedom, not chains, not cages, and certainly not to be treated as someone’s property.

These poor horses are made to run and carry behind them these carriages, and no sign of any safety concerns for it and for everyone else who was nearby.
All private as well as commercial vehicles on the road have not only to be registered, but regulated and taxed.
What about these carriages?
Are they checked for all the safety requirements?
Or are we waiting for an accident to happen before we realise they have no place on the road with all these vehicles?!
It seems that rules are made only for some of us, whilst some other privileged and protected 'categories',not only exploit and abuse innocent animals, but also can break the law without any consequences.

🎉 Kicking off the new year with our first post! As many of you set your resolutions for 2025, let’s talk about a change that could make a difference for the animals. 🐾

How many times have we heard, “Maybe vegetarian, but not vegan”? But when asked why, the reasons often fall short. 🤔

If you’re considering making a change for the animals this year, take a moment to think: Who’s really uncomfortable in this situation? Is it you as a vegan, or is it the animal—the real victim? 🐄🐷

When you realize it’s the animals suffering, ask yourself: How many should be exploited in your name? Zero? One? Or more?

Let’s make 2025 the year we choose true respect towards all sentient beings. 🌱💚

We would like to thank everyone who joined us for the screening of Christspiracy this weekend at Balance Bowl. Kameron Waters was kind enough to send us a personal message which was intended to be shown before the documentary. Unfortunately, we received his message a bit late due to the time difference, hence we are sharing his message now.
Kameron acknowledges the significance of Christianity in Malta, especially following the intervention of Saint Paul. Our Islands were also represented in the documentary, thanks to the interview with Father Louis Caruana.

If you haven’t had the chance to watch it yet, we invite you to do so at www.christspiracy.com.
