Meet Oreo! Oreo is a 15.2hh, mare who is 15 years old. She is a small sport horse with a lot of energy! 💨

Oreo is a sweet girl and is great on walks on a lead rope, but not for a beginner rider or children. She is forward and needs a confident rider that is patient and kind. She can jump and is absolutely beautiful in her flat work.

She would not be suitable for a riding school (she’s a little TOO enthusatic), and ideally would find a nice home with an experienced equestrian family.

🍎Safe and Unsafe Foods for Horses

Horses love treats, but not all foods are safe for them. Here’s a quick guide to keep our horse friends healthy and happy:

✅ Safe Foods:

Carrots 🥕: A classic favorite, full of vitamins.
Apples 🍏: Remove seeds and core to avoid choking.
Bananas 🍌: High in potassium and great for horses.
Watermelon 🍉: Refreshing and hydrating, remove seeds.
Strawberries 🍓: Support the immune system, full of Vit C.
Celery: High water content, good for hydration.

🚫 Unsafe Foods:

Chocolate 🍫: Contains theobromine, toxic to horses.
Avocado 🥑: Contains persin, which can cause colic.
Tomatoes 🍅: Contain solanine, which is harmful to horses.
Cabbage, Broccoli, Cauliflower 🥦: Can cause gas and colic.
Potatoes 🥔: Contain solanine, like tomatoes.

⚠️ Important Reminder:

In all cases, always ask the grooms/trainers/owners if a horse can have treats. Some horses are on special diets and can get very sick from certain foods. When in doubt, it’s better to ask! Let’s keep our horses safe and healthy. ❤️

☀️ Tips for Riding Safely in the Heat ☀️

As temperatures rise in the UAE 🇦🇪, it’s crucial to ensure our horses stay safe and comfortable. Here’s what you need to know:

🌡️ Safe vs. Unsafe Temperatures:

✅ Safe to Ride: 27°C - Take caution and watch for high humidity
⚠️ Caution: 28°C - 32°C) - Limit riding to light work
🔴 Unsafe: 33°C - Avoid riding, prioritize shade and hydration

🚨 Signs of Overheating:

😰 Heavy sweating
🫁 Rapid breathing
🫀 Elevated heart rate
😵 Lethargy + fatigue
🟡 Dark or reduced urine
🍎 Loss of appetite

❄️How to Cool Down Your Horse:

🌴 Move to Shade: Immediately get your horse out of direct sunlight.
💧 Hydrate: Offer cool, clean water. Electrolytes can be beneficial.
💦 Cool Rinse: Use a hose or sponge with cool water, focusing on large muscle areas.
🪭 Use Fans: If available, place your horse near a fan to help lower body temperature.
🩺 Monitor: Keep an eye on vital signs and contact a vet if necessary.

We’ve been breeding Arabian beauties at Mandara Stud (MS) for over 10 years and are very pleased to announce that we will now also breed Warmbloods for Jumping in Mandara Village, located in the centre of the Bekaa Valley in Lebanon, where the weather is ideal for the horses’ wellbeing.
The first 3 Warmblood yearling fillies (Clarify MS, Kir MS and Joy MS) arrived at Mandara Stud from Germany a few days ago, with a plan to transport all our Warmblood Broodmares and babies from Germany to Mandara Stud over the next couple years.
The Arabian beauties breeding will also be relocated from Abu Dhabi to Mandara Stud in Lebanon in the coming year.

Shout out to our incredible 30-member strong grooms team who care for all our horses. They ensure our horses are safe, healthy and well-groomed at all times; they’re even trained at colic detection! Between our grooms, security guards and CCTV system, our horses are under watch 24/7 so that we (and are clients) can rest assured of their safety.
